Technically, it is now - controlled emission toilets emptying into a tank underneath the train!
  2. Hopefully a bit of heat and a big hammer will sort out the rods, the worry is what's caused it and has it damaged the cylinders, journals, wheels etc.
  3. 70000 Britannia acting as a very large headboard for 47593 for the trip to Kingswear today by all accounts. Lots of whistling but not much chuffing! 6233 reportedly behind the 47 tomorrow going to Plymouth, so even more pointless than pushing it.
  4. This was posted on the Bluebell Railway's Facebook page, but I don't know who the original photographer was. I was on the service when it failed, but didn't notice anything untoward until we arrived at Horsted Keynes and stopped with the rear of the last coach only just in the platform. Looking between the frames you could see one connecting rod was bent, but the other one wasn't really visible.
  5. https://flic.kr/p/H9GujR Horns and footsteps removed as out of gauge I believe.
  6. 34051 was repainted at Derby in 1979, and not very well by all accounts.
  7. I've just cleared cookies again for the first time in a couple of weeks, then went into Layout Topics without logging in. Obviously that works fine, so I thought I'd log in again, and rather than it coming up with http code 500 error like before, it went straight back in. I can now access all the sections that were previously causing problems too. Very weird! Good to have full access to the forum though after a couple of months.

I've never had the pleasure of looking through their listings before. I remember seeing boxes of junk at swapmeets labelled "any item £1". I never thought for one minute that 25 years later the stuff would be on eBay for fifty quid!

I bought a box of Del Prado tat the other day for £15. One of the models was a 1960s Italian Tibidabo E626 Bo-Bo-Bo electric loco. Pretty rare, and I managed to sell it a week later for €110!
  10. No, it's not just you, they changed it a few months ago. I assume as part of the fallout from the class 20 accident at Grosmont. You can book tickets on the day, and there's at least one full line trip (Grosmont - Pickering) available for ticket holders without needing to book to go to Whitby as well. It's not particularly clear from the website though that you can do short journeys.
  11. We took our club layout to a show a few years ago and spent about an hour trying to get whole thing level. Wind down the feet, check it's level, move on to the next board, first one has one of the feet in the air. Turned out the gym had a sprung floor! We eventually managed to get it basically level, though you'd occasionally see a wagon randomly move if too many people were at one end. I think everyone else has covered pretty much everything you need. As has been mentioned, if you can't get an extra operator in the future just speak to the exhibition manager beforehand and ask if someone will cover for you while you have some lunch.
  12. It's the air pump. Most other locos have them either hidden between the frames or next to the smokebox (70000, 5029, 34067). But Clan Line was the first to be fitted with air brakes and they decided on the back of the tender was the best place to fit the pump. I believe that it's frowned upon now as it requires a high pressure steam supply between the loco and tender, hence why all other locos have the pump on the loco itself.

I'm not so sure. Lots of glue marks, incorrect and missing windows, and it looks like it's been chiselled off a layout.

Yours for only £10 plus 4 quid postage... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394153254783?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=f94r8mbxqas&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=dltlllrnrym&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Or if you don't want one that looks like a toddler has tried to assemble with their feet, a brand new albeit unbuilt one for less than a tenner. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333231625117?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=mSmU9kiJQ1S&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=dltlllrnrym&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  15. See here. You're not the only one, and there are other sub forums which are inaccessible if you're logged in. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/171476-unable-to-access-forum-area/
  16. Just catching up on this thread. Original photo is by LNER driver Mick Rice, and was posted by Andy Hannah on his Flickr page. https://flic.kr/p/2iDwzT7
  17. A crop of a shot from a couple of months ago. You can see the screws fitted holding the letters on, and the edging. Notice the join in front of the R as well. Quite a few of the A4s have two section nameplates. 60008 and 60009 definitely do, though I can't see any joins on photos of 60010's plates. Perhaps the ones currently fitted aren't original? Another thing I'll have to check, I was told many years ago that 60007's plates actually have Dominion of Canada marked out on the other side.
  18. I'll be honest with you, I worked on them for about 5 years until they left Thameslink, and didn't realise until a couple of years later that they had two designs of cab door! You just followed the vehicle maintenance instruction for whichever unit you were working on and that was it.
  19. That looks more like a computer rendered 3D image than a photo of an actual model! The quality is something else.
  20. I saw this on another forum the other day. There was a Z scale show in Germany last month. A lot of the time over here all you seem to see are Z gauge train sets with stuff running round at 200mph. Some of these layouts are stunning though! No idea about track, mechanisms, etc, but good to see some very nice model railway layouts rather than train sets.
  21. Actually a tunnel fire and rescue train. Pretty impressive in action. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/502714377145254015/
  22. First class and dining sells though, and far more easily than standard class. And despite what many people think, the tour companies don't make anything extra from first class or dining, the income per vehicle is still the same as a standard class coach.

It was used on photo charters at Llangollen soon after completion in March 2011, but it had a few niggles, hence not being officially launched into service for another year. Not the clearest image (lo-res upload to Flickr) but even after a few days of use the roof was starting to get weathered. Berwyn tunnel wouldn't have helped though.
  25. https://hfr160.fr/produit/kit-030tu/ Just come across this on another forum. Resin body with etched parts kit for an 0-6-0T USA/S100/030TU tank. Fits either a Fleischmann Br 91 or Arnold Br 74 chassis. Comes with SNCF decals and parts to improve the valve gear as well. €90 plus chassis doesn't seem too bad value either.
