    EBay madness

Ah, yes, LDV. When the company logo is a skip, it tells you all you need to know about their products!
  2. For mainline locos, I believe the air compressor has to be on the loco. 35028 has it on the tender and I believe they've said if given the choice, they wouldn't put it there again. If the compressor is on the support coach, it would need to stay pretty much permanently attached to the loco. Amberley use (or certainly used to) a static compressor and recharge the air when the train stopped. But that's for a slow speed, short distance narrow gauge line.
  3. There's also regulations regarding amount of usable floor space inside as well. I know when I ordered mine (20' X 10') that it was close to needing planning permission, but once insulated inside the floor area is (just!) within limits.
  4. I saw a couple of photos of the buildings he had made, they were very impressive.
  5. What era are you planning on modelling? Some Italian liveries lasted for decades, so there's a lot of scope for overlap. Rolling stock until the 70s was basically in three liveries. Two tone brown Castano Isabella from the 1930s until the mid 60s. Plain Castano from the early 60s until the late 60s. Grigio (grey) started to be applied in 1965. So plain brown on rolling stock was actually a quite limited period (luckily - it's even more boring than the other two!). A good site (if you run it through a translation app) is https://scalaenne.wordpress.com/. Despite its name, it's not a solely N gauge site. It's very well researched and full of useful information.
  6. I wonder how long it'll take them to fix this? https://www.blick.ch/news/mit-verspaetungen-und-zugausfaellen-zu-rechnen-lokomotive-prallt-in-zollikofen-be-auf-bauzug-ein-verletzter-id17544106.html 475 402 and 465 012 colliding with the back of a stationary ballast train while running light engine. Those wagons aren't cheap!
  7. About 18 months in service I believe?
  8. It's the other way round - 243 is medium viscosity, 603 is low viscosity. We use various types of Loctite at work (a north London train maintenance depot), and 243 is generally the go-to stuff if you don't want something coming loose. Generally a little spot is all that is needed, but it can be enough to make removal of bolts etc very difficult. Gearbox drain plug bolts are torqued to 120Nm, but it's often at least double that to crack them off again afterwards to undo them. So it should be fine for 2mm scale crank pins!
  9. I'm sure others are more informed, but I'm pretty sure it's only the occasional Ge 4/4 ii that is used.

Have Rails been dumpster diving? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134124575376?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=7NGT9XstTyC&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=dltlllrnrym&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134124575420?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=7NGT9XstTyC&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=dltlllrnrym&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I assume they've got someone new doing the eBay side of things. The photos aren't as good and the prices are a bit keen at times, but those are just fit for the bin!
  11. Just had a chance to try it on a laptop, and it's still the same if I'm logged in but fine if not logged in. That's on both Chrome and Edge. I also tried Incognito browsing and got the same error. Layout Topics, Prototype Discussions and M, M & M seem to be the only ones that it affects for me, though I haven't tried all the various sub-forums.

£32k for a completely rotten, stripped spares donor tube coach is more than some of Llangollen's fully operational Mk1s sold last year!

It would be a good deal to get all the track and possibly some working parts and usable woodwork for that price. I think the reason it hasn't sold is that the address is halfway between Rennes and Brest - a four hour drive from Cherbourg and nearly 7 hours from Calais! If it was in the UK chances it would've gone by now, rather than being relisted half a dozen times.
  15. I'm getting the same thing, also in Prototype Discussions. It's doing the same thing in Layout Topics too. Like @11B, all other sections and sub-forums are working fine. I've tried the same work arounds as well, and get the same results. Only tried on Android phone, but I'll try on a Windows laptop later.
  16. Incidentally, this popped up on Facebook this morning. https://fb.watch/cyBWh6H9Og/ Hopefully that link will work, even if you don't do Facebook. 2-8-2T 940.036 was sectioned a few years ago, but has recently been placed on rollers and become an interactive exhibit. Certainly looks a more interesting and educational way of doing it than just hacking a loco apart.
  17. No "Pietrarsa Expresses" advertised this year at present. In previous years they were top and tailed with a pair of E626 electric locos, but they had the copper stolen out of them. Last year was a pair of E656 electric locos instead, not nearly as interesting sadly.
  18. There was a kebab shop in North London that got prosecuted during the horse meat scandal for selling meat. The problem being that no one could actually identify what the meat was! Certainly wasn't lamb like they insisted it was.
  19. It's a prototype, and has actually been in the museum longer than it was in service with the RAF! It was announced at the end of 2019 that Duxford were disposing of it and it was going to be moving to Newark Air Museum, but obviously it still hasn't left yet.
  20. I believe it is part of the Rivarossi collection. It used to be about 7500 items! Rails sold a load off about 5 years ago, so this is some of what remains. There was certainly a lot of bad feeling towards Hornby in Italy when the first batch came up for sale.
  21. The delays at Newport would've been down to someone falling between a train and the platform at Cardiff after the rugby and suffering life changing injuries.
  22. The brown vehicle is a diesel railcar, ALn 990.1005. It's the last surviving ALn 990 after the other preserved one was destroyed by fire a few years ago. It's currently at Palermo being restored, slowly, by Treno Doc. Most recent photo I can find is of it under a tarpaulin in 2019.
  23. Interesting to compare the differences in handrails and rain strips between the two in the photo as well.
  24. https://www.dampflokomotivarchiv.de/index.php?nav=1412418&lang=1&id=101518&action=portrait A couple of recent photos of the loco at the bottom of the above link.
