  1. I was told the box at Westbury lakes was from Dainton Bank.
  2. Just made up a length of track using scrap Peco standard code 80 rail soldered to copper clad sleepers, rails set at 9.42 using my trusty vernier. Made quite sturdy track. Got me thinking, has anyone used this rail in say the staging roads? Now I know the head profile of the Peco rail is awful (I believe it's round), but is it viable in that circumstance?
  3. Dave Consult the June '68 Railway Modeller, there's a drawing of the Gara Bridge platform store which is I think the same as the goods shed at Fencote.
  4. If the church tower is making a shadow on the backscene, why not put the tower against the backscene, or so close it doesn't throw a shadow?
  5. You can't please all the people all of the time, but maybe you can please some of the people some of the time...

Thanks for the kind words Andrew. That is a large project you've committed yourself to. Have you looked at how many trains you will need to correctly represent the workings? In other words, the pretty bit is the easy bit (just got to build it), but how big do the two fiddle yards have to be?
  8. Looks good, I partly built one on the old forum, you've inspired me to dig it out after the weekend and have a look at finishing it.
  9. Good for another 50 years! Some panniers did have red numberplates, the preserved plate from one on my layout is shown in red. Maybe I'll get round to repainting mine.

    Happy New Year

I have never noticed that river in Clevedon before, just checked on Old Maps and sure enough there it is. Thanks Andrew, for bringing the place alive.
  11. I thought you would have finished by now....
  12. Wow, really coming together Dave.
  13. My experience is that uncompensated/unsprung stock does stay on the track if pulled, forget it if you want to push it. Mind you I'm talking pushing 15 - 30 wagon trains, on a small layout it might be OK. Back to the hair shirt.
  14. Been enjoying the long break - getting some modelling done.

  16. Just found this picture of Highbury from 2005. Looks a bit different!
  17. Excellent work as always Captain. Looking forward to seeing this next year.
  18. The shocking spelling and grammar I encounter. Some posts are so bad I cannot understand what is being said.

For some reason, I'm reminded of a train journey home from work some years back.

I was talking to an English teacher - and commented that she probably wasn't too keen on some of the words used by some of her pupils.

Her reply was telling - an evil grin, plus a comment: "At least I know how to SPELL them!"

      Can't argue with that.

  19. I've put some pictures of the derelict Rowden Mill in my gallery, hoping they'd show how the canopy had sagged. Some buildings had wire supports going to the outer edge, I don't have a publishable picture I'm afraid. Picking up on the "steel" comment, the drawings of the Abbotsbury branch buildings show wooden canopy support.
  20. Slight correction, the beams I saw supporting the canopy were wooden, never saw a steel one, I didn't see all the buildings. Still, looking good, and those brackets are just so....
  21. Thanks Nick, good tip on using a 13A plug earth pin, I'll put that on the back burner. I would suggest drilling the wheels from the back - this will avoid the problem of the countersink upsetting the drill and causing it to wander.
  22. I think you would need a mirror to see the working valve gear in a 57XX! Those look like quite old Gibson wheels, have you checked they are conductive? I had some blackened ones like that - that wouldn't conduct the juice. Looking good.
  23. There are so few people modelling in S scale, I'm surprised this model isn't known about. Did you try contacting the society?
  24. If I wanted to get where I'm going, I don't think I would have started from where I've been...

If I had been where you where I would have made sure I'd be where they where.

  25. Just spotted this thread Jerry, I've got some photos from the 70s. I haven't been there for a long time, so I don't know how much is missing these days.
