  1. I remember GWS meetings there in the early 70s, and LMS club meetings in Bath Road offices. Now both places are just memories.
  2. My pictures of the "plant" outside the old station are now historic, the staff association building has been demolished!
  3. Somewhere in my domain is the missing parting tool from the Unimat. I know it's here somewhere, but can I find it? I know it's in the

Best way to find anything is to buy another one............ then you'll find it & have two!

You escaped a black hole and lived to tell the tale? Whew...

  4. Nasty bit of swarf round that front bearing - remove that before going any further. Suggest you twist a large (say 4mm) drill in all the holes to take off the machining marks.
  5. On checking my indexes, I'm afraid I have pictures of Wye Valley Junction, the bridge over the A48, but no pictures of the halt area from the early 70s. Sorry John.
  6. Go on Jerry, you know it makes sense to go DCC...

    EBay madness

Thanks for the thought! That postcard has been in a few books, so I'll pass on this one...
  8. Finally sorted out network - computers now talking to each other - now back to some modelling - hurrah!!

  9. There might be, but I don't think they show much. I'm working through my old Black & White shots - putting them onto digital, maybe something will turn up. Your model catches the atmosphere of the place John.
  10. Just raining here...

  11. I spotted this image on the RCTS site. http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/mysteryphotos/show.htm?img=65-015-29&serial=45&page=2 Somehow, it encapsulated a time long ago, the thatched cottage, the single unit, the gate, it was all there in one image. I went to Toller just before it closed in 1975. Probably didn't look much different to the RCTS view. I went there the following year after the track had gone. I know the building is now at Totnes, but when I looked at street view and satellite, there's a house there now. The bridge is still there, but trees from the trackbed are higher than the road level. I couldn't see the thatched cottage. Progress?
  12. Upgraded broadband? Don't bother, 40 meg is worse than the 12 I had before, can't listen to Iplayer without constant buffering

It can take 1 or 2 weeks to settle in. Moved to Infinity started of at 35 meg now getting 65 meg.

BT Openreach upgraded the local infrastructure to allow ISP's to bring faster broadband a couple of months back. My usuable quick broadband has now slowed down to a crawl with frequent downtime. Not impressed!!!

I'm lucky to get 0.5 Meg! On a good day. And I don't live way out in the sticks either

  14. I have worked out that mu model of 5532, small prairie that I origonally built in 1976, has had a longer working life than the real one, built 1928, scrapped 1962. OK, I know it has been resurrected, but it's an interesting comparison.

So the question is: Is your model now more real than the prototype?!

  15. Why is it that some people expect to be spoon fed? I get fed up with those who expect others in Eforum land to give them the answer, and are not prepared to put themselves out in any way, shape, or form. An example is not prepared to go and look.

It's the laziness of modern society.

There are some who feel they are above advice and merely label those helping as "interfering know-it-alls" - these are the people who actually need the advice more than anyone.

Instant gratification. The bane of Eforum land.

  16. Superb work as always captain! That improved height looks like it might give a decent head of water into a tank. Roll on June - it is going?
  17. So you are one of those "people" who throw themselves down mountains, oblivious to others "quiet enjoyment" of the countryside?
  18. Should be simple enough to put a mechanical lock between the FPLs and their relevant levers. As they will be alongside each other, just put a bar across from the FPL. Then you have to reverse the FPL before reversing the point. GW practice is that FPL normally are out.
  19. Check out a year's membership of a Golf Club, and compare that with your railway club/preservation society membership.
  20. Finally upgraded puter - now RMweb opens quickly.

      Rocket fuel!

  22. This happened on Portescaps I had about 20 years ago! After a thorough degreasing, and re-lubrication they were fine. BUT I got rid of all the Portescaps years ago now, sold well at the Bring and Buy. They had their day, but motors and gearboxes these days are much better than they used to be. I don't regret the move.
  23. The way to avoid buffer locking when propelling on reverse curves is - just don't do it! Try and design the layout so the move isn't required. Simples!
  24. Spent today at a motor bike show. The majority of people I saw were my age, like the age profile at Model Railway exhibitions. Conclusion? Only middle aged people can be bothered to go to shows.

They should call this era The Middle-Ages.....oh wait....hang on....
