  1. A long time since I saw stock in the sidings in DSC04074.
  2. As far as I remember, as I haven't seen it since it came out in 1984, the Film wasn't too bad a rendering of the book... Your modelling of the proles area looks a lot like post war London - which of course was what Orwell wanted! In fact the film came out in two versions, I saw the original AND the revised soundtrack version with the Eurythmics. Check the Wikipedia for the low-down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nineteen_Eighty-Four_%28film%29
  3. The awning brackets were different on each of the railways. For example, the Newent Railway had "NR" cast into the bracket, the BNSR had a plain circle inside the normal shape. On my 4mm building, I made a jig and scratchbuilt the brackets, as you only need about 6, maybe consider that for your model. When it comes to the awning, it's very difficult to get consistency over that number of valencing, suggest you look at what is available in etching. On mine, I used some moulded 7mm valencing which was just right for my 4mm model. Always try and think outside the box when modelling.

    Playtime

    Don't blame you....
  5. Extra isolating sections Jerry, I thought you were going DCC?
  6. Even more of an incentive to go to Bedford!
  7. Just seen this request, I may have some original research material.

    Station building 2

Looks like Buffalo is correct about the doors, my original research at Hallatrow in the early 70s confirms it. Of interest, the base of the window is 3'6" off the ground, and the window is 5'2" high, 3'6" wide on the extension. Interpreting drawings I did nearly 40 years ago is a bit daunting.... If you want to get the chimney correct....

Double plus good model. Another dystopia worth a peruse was Road to Nowhere, but don't let them see you reading it....
  10. Thanks for the tip about using straight rail, but I see it's only sold in nickel silver, which I won't countenance. Will it be produced in steel?
  11. Busy on the curved end today. There were a lot of problems with this at ExpoEM, so I've been paying close attention to levels. New track has been built. Also, there may be an extension to the backscene.

    2mm

Looking to the future, my current layout Clutton is getting nearly 30 years old. So where next? It's a big layout, so something smaller. BLTs don't do anything for me. So to get more in, means going down a scale. Thing is, can I build in 2mm? This project is about seeing what I can do and can I make it work for me. It's amazing what can be left out.
  13. Great Western Journal have published a few plans of cranes - you could check them out.
  14. I make it that the sections are about 17.7" long, not quite as big as I'd imagined them to be. Thanks for the reply Tim.
  15. How do you store the sections when it's not in use Tim? It must be quite fragile. Can you give a description/post some piccies of the test track when it's put away please?
  16. Regrettably with the demise of "model" shops, exhibitions are the ONLY place you can get to see products before you buy. I choose exhibitions based on the traders that are there, rather than the layouts. Railwells is not a trade show (like Scaleforum, ExpoEM), but it's still a good show.
  17. The Farish pannier is untouched, and I leave it to others to say how to scale it is for N or 2mm. Camera was on its 28mm equivalent setting. Having posted that picture of Burnham, I spotted in the 2mm Magazine that it can be seen this year at Burnham and Weymouth.
  18. Here is my Farish pannier with new chassis, alongside a scratchbuilt pannier on Wenford Bridge.
  19. Here's a blast from the past, Burnham. Can't remember where I took it.
  20. So you view your models from that close - larger than life size. I know I certainly wouldn't consider looking that closely at a 4mm model, let alone a 2mm model.
  21. Ran my pannier on Wenford Bridge where it performed very well. I put this down to the accuracy of the etchings and assembly jig. Needs a bit of running in on a continuous line now....
  22. Funny you should say that you wanted a basic controller. I have been experimenting. I normally use an ancient H&M Powermaster, but then I connected a DCC chip between my DCC controller and the test track and found a new degree of control, far better than the ancient Scalespeed could ever deliver. Plus the extremely rough PWM delivered by the Scalespeed won't do my Mashima motors any good.
  23. I've got a Scalespeed controller - I leave it on the shelf as a museum piece.
  24. Railwells is always the challenge, at least you didn't get there with the trolley! Are you going to carry it upstairs or use the lift? I'm sure when I went, Clutton went up the stairs.
  25. Probably a saturated market, there are lots for sale.
