  1. Sorry I have no idea !! they were used from Edinburgh to Aberdeen and South of Edinburgh as well . You may have luck with the A2/3 as this is a converted Bachmann A2 and woud be much easier to make as the major difference is the front end . Cant see a A2/2 being done far too many variations of cab and tenders.
  2. A Haymarket engine A2/2 Wolf of Badenoch
  3. Never heard of them before . Got one on ebay for £1.29 inc postage
  4. Last on this one so not to clog up GN layout thread. A2/2 designed a express passenger locomotive as early as 1946 they had been downgraded to goods engines albeit on express use. 2005 had 30 visits to the works in 14 years The main achilles heel was the cobbled together frames and general poor riding due again to frames and poor bogie design as mentioned earlier. The design was a compromose due to the LNER or Thompson's or both ?? decision to reuse as much of the P2 as possible. It has been stated the A2/2 was designed around its coupling rods hardly a good start to a career. Last bit of lining on my A2/2 Wolf of Badenoch over weekend so far she looks a cracker in Apple Green
  5. Indeed , however I doubt if they built due to the A2/2 reliability due to the spliced frames problems which were discovered early after the rebuilds. They were also more economical than the A2/2. The A2/1 had redesigned one piece frames not cut downand spliced P2 frames overall much more reliable than the A2/2s and more power than the V2 which they replaced on the order books.
  6. A read of East Coast Pacifics at Work by Peter Townsend Shed master at Top Shed with regard to Thompson Pacifics puts a lot of untruths to bed . The only one to get major critcisms from him is the unloved A2/2 with major problems with the grafted on front of the frames cracking etc. A lot of this may in his words have been to poor maintence at Cowlairs and a poor bogie design. The second was redesigned in the 1950's. For all their problems they still managed between 3/4 and a million miles in service. I admit I tend to ignore Thomos coaches as they are out of my modelling period , as usual Coach has amde a excellent job of the one above. Thompson was his own worst enemy with some of his rebuild decisons. I cannot understand why the P2 was not used from Kings Cross at a time of war and the LNER never had any money ? So why spend cash on rebuilding 5 locos at such a time no logic at all. Thompson caould have simply built a extra 5 A2/1s or V2 s as replacements at less cost and design time. Glad the camera is up and running well done.
  7. Thommo shield up again some of my favourites simply cause they are different for all the flack they werent bad engines as confirmed by various sources I have Great Northern, Duke of Rothesay and Hycilla built and 3/4 of the way through Wolf of Badenoch to complete the series. Thanks for the photos. A2/3 from Bachmann next year they are 3/4 of the way there already, the A2 only needs a new front end, valve gear and revised cab area job done.
  8. I have some Brassmasters etches for the A3 and A4 too. The instructions in the A3 ones I recieved had the wrong diagram numbers and some of the instructions are "confusing" to use a polite description. I have since recieved a new copy of diagram/instructions which still isnt 100% but better via a prompt email from Brassmasters. 247 Developments nameplates and HMRS are my preference. Fox are OTT on price and Modelmaster are poor compared to HMRS.
  9. What is function of the catch point in the track to the right of the A4 as its set to derail ? Nice pics more of the Thompson Locos in new format would be appreciatted
  10. Good news I met him at Ally Pally last year a very pleasant chat and person.
  11. Workshop Grey this morning, First coat of Apple Green now drying.
  12. I also now have some of the Brassmaster etches for the A3 and 4 , have you changed the Bogie Wheels to allow room for the etch or can I still use the Hornby versions ?
  13. A H Peppercorn now with correctly painted Handrails and Sand fillers. Etched work plates added and finished in Satin Varnish to get rid of the awful original shiny finish.
  14. The Wolf ready for paint. Nothing is screwed down just been tested to ensure it goes around curves, which I am please it does first time The resin front frames can now be fitted and the Footplate Oil Lubricators. Valve Gear was much easier than expected. Due to my clumsiness I managed to break one return crank which has now been replaced. This was due to a rivet being too short. I also never made the new cut in the wheel boss wide enough to alow the crank to face left. As a result the tiny pins on the rear of the crank broke off when the retaining screw was tightened. Cylinders Ensure you slot the top of the slidebar deep enough. I didnt as a result the Cylinders wouldnt lay correctly. Once filed deep enough no problem. Bachmann A H Peppercorn now with correctly painted Handrails and Sand fillers. Etched work plates added and finished in Satin Varnish to get rid of the awful original shiny finish.
  15. Thanks for the offer .I wouldnt expect you to go to so much trouble. I can purchase a new set of the valve gear and cylinders from Bachmann, sadly they wont sell single items , if no one has a spare available ? thanks again
  16. SAC I think your mixing your Full Brakes with your Brake Third/First liveries ?? I am presuming the Full brakes were mainly used on parcel trains hence BR never bothered to re livery ? . Superb shots as usual
  17. Has anyone ?? a spare Bachmann Return Crank as I have has one fall to bits during adding the Valve Gear to the A2/2 conversion thanks
  18. I dont think it's been mentioned yet but Vol 1 of Essery's 'LMS Wagons' reveals that the LMS also had 20 built by Leeds Forge, though only one running number was known to the author From Tatlow LNER Wagons I.D as LNER but shorter buffers and 3 link couplings. no other details mentioned
  19. The original Tatlow LNER wagons has two pictures of either end of 843E as per Hornby model ,one is a dark shade of ?? the other side is much paler shade of ?? Some LNER engineering stock was Cambridge Blue i.e Light Blue . Perhaps they were trying differnt colours in the photos ? At the moment no idea if the Hornby Grey is correct. The pictures appear id to the Hornby version to my eye. Tatlow states they were built by Leeds Forge Co not Metro cammell. Axleboxes in pictures are flat front with a single bolt head in the centre so a easy fix if the colour is not a problem ???? LNER version http://www.ehattons.com/StockDetail.aspx?SID=35994
  20. The LNER version should be in Oxford Blue this is appears to be either Dark Grey or Black ? http://www.ehattons.com/StockDetail.aspx?SID=35994
  21. New front end fitted. Nothing screwed down or tweaked.
  22. As far as I know the DJH kit doesnt cover the LNER version anyway ? As you can see its the V cab version as used on the original LNER boiler. I believe the DJH version only covers the BR version with the cut off to the front of the V ? The only hard part maybe fitting new valve gear using the Comet V2 parts time will tell !!
