  1. As we have found doing reasearch for the signalling on Charwelton about the only way to find info is to wade through photos of the nearest area that your modelling, as mentioned signalling design varied between regions, not easy when your researching signalling on a line that didn't survive such as the GC with Charwelton. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/124677-charwelton-re-signalling/
  2. As I have finished most of my freight rolling stock I thought I would make a start on the coaching stock that will be required on Charwelton- First victim an aging Airfix BSO MK2D. So- pipes/step/ETH fittings added, corridor connection cut back to the correct length from coach end and dropped buckeye fitted. Also windows added to the corridor insert. Just need a tail lamp and it's there!
  3. We have been collating the stock into a register and now have a departmental section, not fully populated yet but should give a flavour of some of the stock that will appear in various train formations!
  4. RIP Eric- I'm sure him and Jocky Wilson will be having a round of darts in the heavens as we speak!
  5. Just over a week to a planned working weekend on the layout, hopefully we will have some update pictures of the scenic boards re-united and getting further work. High on the agenda are the points on the scenic side as they are currently of a unique servo design and require the frog to be switched via the panel, there are a few options here but we need to look into those options over the weekend! Looks like me and Simon with our heads in the control panel for the duration then!!!
  6. No -screw couplings is a completely different therapy session so sorry not an excuse not to attend!
  7. After reading this thread I’m thinking of starting a 3-link-coupling support group up- any one up for some coupling therapy?
  8. Hi Clive, If you mean do I respect other operations -Yes- because some layouts can't always be operated with 3 links, be it the size, practicality -you have to be able to reach each item of stock to be practical! If you mean operating TY for a weekend with fully fitted 3 link stock then yes- hopefully it gives a good balance of look/operation -One size can't fit all.
  9. Operating Thorne Yard the look of the stock for me takes preference over practicality- even at the precived expense for some of operation at a show (I personally like to see authentic stock with an operators hand in view, opposed to stock fitted with couplings that work automatically but are not authentic to the original). But!!!- I can well understand the practical side of operation for many people and the need of alternative couplings so I do respect their decision as each layouts needs are different!
  10. No football tonight as my body seems to propose retirement -having a game Sunday and Tuesday have taken their toll! A visit to Morrisons on the site of the former North road locomotive works provided this Suffolk Gold Ale from St Peters brewery- 4.9%. Just the ticket to recuperate!
  11. Around Darlington late 80's there were no air points unfortunately to see, mainly M63 and SGE, these were soon replaced by the clamp locks in the early 90's SSI re-signalling- ironically many have now been put back to HW2000 point machines.
  12. VAR is no good, chop it up for fire wood!!! - To keep us warm in this weather.
  13. On duty today ECML North Yorkshire. Not much sign of clearing here and it's just been snowing agin but a little sleet mixed in. I think we will see it warm up overnight tonight though!
  14. I'm no expert on air points as they were never on the area I worked but did see them a couple of times over in the Tees yard area. I think they were quite similar designs and similar layout. The air supply was in pipes as I recall but again my memories from the early 90's are sketchy.
  15. Looking a bit closer to home for info might have helped me find something a bit quicker! (Forgotten this thread that I have even posted on myself) - some pics of air points here- http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/84830-moving-the-points-hands-rods-wires-and-machines/page-2
  16. Here in the north east you could get HW, SGE, M63 & Clamp locks but looking at some pictures of Consett here on David Heys collection site- http://www.davidheyscollection.com/page70.htm they seem to look like 'air points' shown here https://www.railscot.co.uk/img/21/280/
  17. Just had this picture from a colleague trying to get back to Berwick upon Tweed after a 2 day conference in Doncaster. We left him on the train with the prospect of a night in a hotel in Newcastle but he managed to get on a snow plough heading north. Frustratingly they made Almouth but without authority to proceed had to set back south. He's now back in the hotel in Newcastle with another attempt to get home in the morning!
  18. Football snowed off so it's a night in front of the fire with a porter- Pillow Fight 4.8% from the Flavourly range- Bad Co. of Dishforth, North Yorks. A chocolate marshmallow porter.
  19. Just been out with the measuring stick between flurries and we stand at 7" currently in Darlo!
  20. Snow duties tonight as the beast from the east rolls into Northallerton!
  21. I remember watching Rhona Martin lead the women's GB team to gold in 2002 late into the night -and it was worth staying up for!!
  22. Hmmm' -definitely a quandary as the Hedland red is an exceptional Ale but Double Maxim is a true North East heavyweight! One of each I reckon!!!
  23. Drifting a little farther afield but still in Yorkshire is an interesting pale ale from the Ilkley brewery- Pale 4.2% (new world pale ale).
  24. I would say attached as the shadow cast on the platform only shows one structure and as previously mentioned the brackets on the post.
