  1. Check your CCTs! I received from Kerry and Vernon at Invicta 2 of the 3 CCTs which I had ordered one blue and one maroon with a blue weathered example to follow, unfortunately the blue one has it's foot boards and steps missing from under all 4 sets of doors, so I have emailed Invicta to find out how to proceed to rectify this. On checking back at the pictures on here I see that the steps and footboards are missing from the 2 blues ones that Paul showed in post # 116 but the maroon one pictured in post # 122 has them in place as is the case with my maroon CCT. This is not the first time I have had parts missing from Bachmann wagons as I have a BR standard brake van with one set of brake shoes missing, Bachmann were unable to supply these parts for me to fit.
  2. A bit more info about 1363 in early preservation in Cornwall. https://www.national-preservation.com/threads/pre-b-w-sometime-in-the-60s.34571/
  3. Here's a good excuse for a GWR liveried 1363 in Cornwall in the early 70s. I guess this was when the GWS was at Bodmin General, I wonder how it got down to St Blazey, towed by a diesel hydraulic in light steam I expect. I seam to remember reading somewhere that the diesel found the trip very easy going! https://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/9703983032/in/photolist-fMvs5h-9DtDpo-9DqLuv-ggj9om-nffXNM-nffXUP-a89hEt-fMvseq-fMvrT3-cT215A-9DqTti-97jpeF-9LHg2z-9BVeco-9BSGS6-fHCopg-8ZVbXX-94K9Uu-8Z1LGN-aaQomq-9SjzuG-bThauV-8YXji7-fHCmT4-fHUWtJ-ap6WPo-jhGm5T-frfYvK-9TZwVb-9xSRBm-fzg6NG-9HFFE5-jhExnX-fQEK1E-doPwnt-bsujSG-nswyAP-bsujSQ-cuN4yE-kdVkLX-bBFHW6-doPEkb-gSLMqK-9MM8Dy-gSKz5r-9QB9mn-fHCm9g-caJWnC-9CL153-bBFHWg

  5. I think the first picture shows the 2 Dawlish observation/camping coaches when they had been newly refurbished for their role as seaside accommodation.
  6. Here's an interesting little Freightliner depot that would fit a medium sized layout and probably only required one set of 5 wagons. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/freightlinerdepot/h1C1F048E#h1c1f048e https://www.flickr.com/photos/geoffsimages/8176804361/in/photolist-95nPNz-9jyxZ3-gwZ697-hBV9Au-cynodN-dsyg4x-bgcLHk-8W93s9-k5vHs9- Also found a picture a few days ago of a pair of class 50s double heading a single set of 5 wagons west though Dawlish Warren with most of the containers towards the rear of the train, probably an MOD load to Plymouth Devonport or Ernesettle.

    Dapol 'Western'

Thanks Chris, I must have missed that have you any idea which page it was on ? I am not sure how you would overload the PCB as the loco draws less than 0.3A fully loaded.

Hi Phil That looks and sounds great, but 12x Bachman, empty bogie flats, a van and brake is a light load if compared to 9 kit built and weighted (I expect to be able to reverse a complete screw link coupled train into sidings and though crossovers) bogie vans or coaches. I'm not sure how using a DCC control system would change things but I guess you are removing the PCB that is failing on my Western and replacing it with a DCC decoder, or does it plug in on top? But I do hope your Dapol locos continue to run faultlessly.

    Dapol 'Western'

This is the same problem I have with my Western Enterprise bought in April and its been blowing the small PCB which controls the lighting, but it will not run with the PCB not in place. Its been back to DCC twice complete and had a chassis replacement and I have lost count of the number of times Andy has sent me replacement PCBs (also replacing the same parts in my Dapol class 22s which had also failed,) but still the fault persisted. I thought it may have been the fault of my controlers which are home made but have been fine with all other makes of loco and have been in use for over 20 years now, also I had the same fault running on an H&M Clipper controler but I understand these are known to spike high voltages. The most recent failure has been running on a Gaugemaster controler which I bought specially to test the Western as this is the make that DCC use for testing. Andy at DCC has now sent me an experimental PCB which he has made up and I fitted it on Friday, that has been good so far. Interestingly the fault only occurs when the Western is coupled up to a train, my trains tend to be 8 to 9 coaches or more, this has been raising the current taken from @ 0.17A to 0.24A or more. I wonder how many model Westerns are pottering around lightly loaded on short trains waiting for this fault to surface when more is demanded of them. I must also add that DCC supplies and Andy have provided an excellent warrenty service.
  14. If the model is as good as the artwork. I cancelled my order when I saw the finished Wadebridge box.

    Dapol Class 22

Ok sorry Dave, I had not meant to miss quote you, please accept my apologies. But it is certainly another thing to look at and I had not realised that this might be a problem.

    Dapol Class 22

It sounds like I have been having the same problems as Richard with my 22s and Western. I have been in contact with Dapol Dave and Andy at DCC Supplies and I cannot speak highly enough of the help I have received from them. Firstly 3 new PCBs were sent to me, the Western has been a persistent failure and has been returned to DCC twice, with a complete replacement chassis, supplied by Dave, fitted on its last visit, but still the lighting/DCC blanking PCB has failed again. Having been in contact with Dave again today he is pointing the finger at my H&M power supply/control. As Richard has found I also have never had a problem with other manufacturers locomotives.

Hi Darren I think this is the N gauge Western, confusing as The Signal Box do not actually give the scale on the order page just the Dapol code.

    Dapol 'Western'

For my birthday at the beginning of April and after much deliberation over the cost, I nudged Mrs bubbles in the direction of Swindon Steam Museum's D1000 Western Enterprise. After careful running in in both directions the loco was dismantled to fit my own head codes, crews in the cabs, screw link couplings fitted both ends, many of the detailing parts were added and the extra holes for buffer beam detail, not required for D1000 filled and touched in with colour matched paints. The first load test on the layout was an 8 van parcels train and disaster struck, a short way into the run, the speed dropped and smoke started curling from the roof fan vents. As the body was still loose on the chassis from fitting the detail I quickly whipped it off to check inside, the circuit boards were very hot and although the loco was again running normally none of the lights were working at either end. It was now quite late in the evening, but feeling rather down about my new Western I sent a pm to Dapol Dave via RMweb asking the best course of action. Imagine my surprise when just minutes later I received a reply back from Dave advising me to contact DCC Supplies. Next day I phoned them from work and received by email a prepaid label for postage for the loco to be sent back to them for repair. Over the next few day i received 7 more emails from DCC Supplies advising me how work on my Western Enterprise was progressing and when to expect her home again. Today, just 12 days after the failure, my Western undertook her second and this time successful load test and I would just like to say thank you to Dapol Dave and DCC Supplies for exemplary service. Dave asked me to let him know how things went, so I will be sending him another pm and pointing out this post. thanks again Dave!
  20. Interesting comparison of Sentinel shunters, advertisement from Institution of Locomotive Engineers Vol. 51 (Part 3) 1961-62. 'Standard gauge 4'81/2 all other gauges will be available in due course' ! ">http://

I'm sure the red dot route restriction made a comeback in the later blue years, I can well remember my suprise at seeing a Western tearing through Sonning cutting in 74 or 75 with a red dot applied to the cab. How well are the cabs glued in on Dapols blue Westerns? they really need to be removed for detailing and fitting a crew.
