SOS Junction. If anything happens would someone wake me up please..

It is certainly 'bracing' Or it was when I lived near there. -
Finally got my hands on a copy of BRM. Great article and pictures, one to keep for the future when inspiration is needed. Roger

Well that's better than mouldy bread and dry butter!
-
Happened to me! I built Shillingstone and associated buildings and a year later Bachmann produced them.

Haha! It's funny isn't it we worry about getting the correct colour for locos and if signals are in the right place etc but don't often give a thought to some of the incidentals. It's only because I'm an Agricultural Engineer that I notice things like tractor colours. I blame the manufacturers, why produce something in colours that never existed on the real thing? I believe they also made them in green with yellow wheels which is the John Deere colour scheme. Keep up the good work with the layout you are excelling yourself with this one Roger

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh NO NO NO! Never red unless someone got the paint pot out!
-
Excellent! Now don't go and spoil it by putting a RED Fordson somewhere will you? This is really coming on well Andy, keep it up.

Thanks for all the info. I still don't seem to have that elusive photo of tanks actually being loaded, especially from the bottom as suggested. Did the pipe go from the inlet up inside the tank to the top?? If not I would have thought any pump would have struggled to fill a tanker against the back pressure.
-
Does anyone know of a good photo showing Milk Tankers being loaded in the 50s/60s? I assume it must have been via an overhead gantry with pipes leading to the tank tops but can't seem to find a good picture. Thanks in anticipation Roger

Not sure my mind is that great!!!

The bubble marks could be where fish are coming to the surface

Now you be careful with a chisel..... look what I did to Shaftesbury -
Attached a series of photos taken during the build. Hopefully self explanatory but do ask if there is anything particular you want to know. If you hold your mouse over the photo it will give you a brief caption. Thanks for your interest Regards Roger
-
Thanks, yes the weathering done by me but I want to do a bit more on the axleboxes of the tankers as I don't think they are quite right yet. Regards Roger
-
Yes, branches off from Templecombe and basically follows the line of the A30 towards Shaftesbury. As the town is on the top of a hill (a problem also found by the LSWR!) the terminus in true S&D style is some way from the town.
-
Yes but some time ago! Some pictures of the original setup attached. 47542 before weathering, either that or the cleaners have been busy! Roger

After what seems like years of inactivity due to ill health I managed to get back in the shed to play trains operate my railway. However all was not well . Poor running over what had previously been good and reliable trackwork. No amount of fault finding seemed to isolate the problem other than pinpointing the crossover in the station. Well you know how it is, out with the chisel and start to carefully lift the turnouts except that it wasn't carefully enough and before I knew it the whole lot was coming up! So what to do? Off to Alton Model centre for some code 75 to replace the code 100 previously used (did consider the new Bullhead but not sure having heard mixed reports) and some Cobalt IP Analogue motors. New cork underlay down and trial fit of new trackwork. At the same time I decided to move the milk depot from it's previous position to behind the station where the Goods Shed used to be. I had never really been happy with the site of the GS as it was very cramped and didn't look too realistic. After a bit more chisel work an area was cleared for a trial fit. Moral of the story is 'be careful what you start as one thing seems to lead to another!' Roger

Have you lot bought them out???? Now listed as 'out of stock'

Please don't think this was a criticism but just thought you might like to know. Production started in November 1951 although it was 1952 before many became available. In 1958 the Power Major was introduced, same body shape but a bit more power and a few other refinements, to be followed by the Super Majors with again similar body style but headlights set in the radiator grill. That's the fascination with this hobby it leads you down some unexpected avenues!! Where you have it positioned it could be mistaken for an International tractor so no need to be in a hurry to replace it

Love the tractor just showing in the shed. The fact it is the wrong colour and that the new style Fordson Majors didn't appear until 1951 doesn't matter, it just looks right! Superb modelling and something for us all to aspire to. Roger

Where is the 'groan' button?
