  1. Erm no, that wasn't what the question asked - I voted on that option not because it said shirtbutton, but because it asked for an era of modelling and that timeframe attributed to it covered it.
  2. This is something I had thought would be a good idea too. Boost it to 10pts, it would give the drivers incentive to drive flat out. I had thought of that one too, like in drag racing. However as Zomboid pointed out this would probably just result in the top teams stretching an even bigger lead in F1. My wackiest idea is to ban driver contracts! Every driver must race twice in a season for each team, that way no one can whinge "oh he only wins because he has the fastest car. Good drivers should do better in the bad cars e.g. Alonso who can extract more than out of a dog of a car than most. Keep separate driver and constructors championships, they would each now be relying on solely on driver skill and how good you car is rather than just having the best in the best.
  3. So this is what the tender pickups should look like when not deliberately bent away from the wheels. Despite running well, this 3rd example is still working as an 0-4-0 (or 2-0-2?) with the centre wheels not touching at all. After about 8 hours of running in, you can see the polishing on the outer drivers whilst the centre drivers are completely untouched. Haulage-wise, I had 14 wagons hanging off the back and it lapped steadily at a nice sedate pace. It had a small amount of slippage on starting, I got up to 19 wagons before it really struggled and wouldn't pull away at all.. A lump of lead was balanced on the firebox and this help it with the getaway. So it looks like if I can get the centre wheels to touch the track and provide grip and also add some weight in (a 2nd fly wheel would help) it should help.
  4. You've done a very nice job on those Martin. The quarry wagon with the new plank is very well executed, a lot of people get that wrong, either missing parts of the plank near the door or spilling over onto neighbouring planks.
  5. And that decision let them take the lead in the Constructors Championship.
  6. But it was ok for Ferrari to tell Kimi to let Seb by to "fix the result"? The alternate thinking behind the Mercedes call was more likely not wanting to see both of their cars taking each other out in difficult track conditions after Seb handed them a 1-2. If Bottas was in front, I think they would have made the same call. It was good fair racing between them but too risky at that stage of the race.
  7. If they need room behind the cylinders for the bogie wheel, then why not just put a cutout on the back where it's not visible, not compromise the visible dimensions. It also doesn't explain why the rear end of the cylinder block has been shortened.. Hope it's not too late for them to sort out properly.
  8. Plenty of online place to try these days e.g. https://www.rapidonline.com/catalogue/search?Query=12v%20power%20supply
  9. Looks like there is room to fit a 2nd flywheel on the motor on the extended shaft sticking into the smokebox, something I will do if I can find some brass stock in the shed. Maybe even make a larger flywheel to replace the now smaller single one. "A bit hit and miss" is an understatement, but IF you can get hold of a good 2nd gen one, they do run ok.
  10. Huge thanks to Ben and Simon for sorting out my Oxford Rail Dean Goods. Seems that OR are chucking out a lot of duff loco's and the poor retailers are taking the brunt of it with returns. It took 3 attempts but the guys went the extra mile after the 2nd return to make sure the 3rd one was faultless. Thanks guys!!
  11. Yes, it warps. I tried to use it as a baseboard for one of the Challenges.I took the foil off both sides and glued it to a some mdf om the bottom and back. After a year it was warped in two dimensions.
  12. Deliberate? It must be sabotage at the factory then as they are supposed to be touching, as per my 3rd and finally working one.
  13. Third time lucky? I have to give Ben and Simon at Rails a huge Thank You for sorting out my DG. Simon had personally tested loco #2 before sending out so was disappointed that it turned out to be a duffer when I mailed about the returns for it. Loco #3 was very thoroughly tested by Ben, he even took the time to call me and ask if there were any specific tests to try on it so I just asked "Do the rear tender pickups touch the wheels?" to which the answer was "Yes" and "Will it run smoothly at shunting speed?" to which Ben went off, tried it out and then mailed me back to confirm it was ok. True to his word, this one has turned out to finally be a decent runner. Soon as I turned the controller up slowly it started to move and it completed several laps of the track at slow speed, no hesitation over the curved insulfrog point. It's nice to finally get one that works, but if only 1 in 3 of the OR locos are any good, that is shockingly bad assembly and QA.
  14. That's actually what most would class as a good runner! See PMP's blog for what a really bad one is like.
  15. I estimate about 18-20 in one of the 4l ones. I've just taken deliver of several after seeing them linked in the Bargains thread. The are of a very similar width/length (A4 sheet) to an existing box I have which currently has 16 wagons in and room for more.
  16. That nothing unique to DCC, works on DC too. I have had a loco going round my test track so slowly you couldn't perceive it moving. Purely by accident, I hadn't turned the controller right to 0, I only realised when it was in a completely different part of the track several hours later.
  17. You're supposed to create the actual "random" mail account as well. As Sir Topham said, just fill in junk details and use it as a throwaway account.
  18. There's always some good books and DVDs available too.
  19. He's not been "extremely unlucky" at all, read through the thread and you'll see many people have experienced problems with these, including myself.
  20. Why would you not like the fact that he smelt cleaner than other attendees of the exhibition?
  21. "Driver attends event organised by team sponsor" - shock horror! How dare he!
  22. Will that be the "qualified medical professionals" who get get "perks" from the drugs companies for prescribing their meds? Like when my cholesterol came back at 5.5 in a blood test, my GP wanted me to go on statins. I knew several people who'd gone on them and suffered severe side effects, so did a bit of digging about. After not taking the pills, eating healthier (was never really bad anyhow!) and increasing the exercise I was doing, I dropped the level down to 4.5 in 18 months. Also saved myself £150 in prescription fees
  23. This^^^ Err yeah, that's sound logic there....
