  1. If you keep assaulting LMS locos I may have to ban your eldest from touching my locos when she helps operate "Oakley" HAHAHAHAHA
  2. The cobbles are starting to look the dog's danglies Duncan
  3. Duncan, They seem to take on a dark grey hue with hints of black in it. Tyre rubber wear over the area and work boots with hob-nails on the soles does appear to act as a cleaning agent, keeping the mud and general detritus down. If you look at photos of the setts in the main public areas of the ironbridge gorge museums show the sort of wear pattern and colouring that I'm referring to. Kev
  4. Fantastic modelling there, only thing I would mention re:- setts is I have found from my work on streetworks (curbing, setts and tarmacing) is that the setts in heavily trafficked areas would show more of the natural granite due to any road dirt and general muck being constantly rubbed off.
  5. I can confirm this layout is an absolute belter to operate, even if I don't exactly go at the Cornwall slow pace of life
  6. Not only that, but there is no way I can build the required supports in for any more layouts on top of the already planned building works
  7. I'm so looking forward to being the guest operator on this layout at our show (Uckfield exhibition), John and Jerry have both let me have a turn or 2 on their other layouts that have attended, namely "Highbury Colliery", "Tucking Mill" and "Wenfordbridge Goods Depot".
  8. After reading the entire thread and seeing it all come to life, I think we need to re-visit the lighting pelmet design and height. I'm thinking of a change to the original design and quote to take into account the photography carried out and also it might be possible to get the pelmet past her indoors with this change.
  9. Just found out ColinW of this parish is in hospital on a ventilator and Dialysis, thoughts to his family

My thoughts are here and let us see a speedy recovery.

  10. A reasonably successful night at club, looks like the planned track formations will fit into the baseboard constraints.

  11. Check out their facebook page, I think they have started ground clearance. I contacted them a couple of months ago about the 7&1/4" line they are planning to have round the outer limit of the site and apparently they are planning to have their own coaching stock and use visiting locos for motive power, so I may be taking my Class 12 shunter to it's spiritual home once everything is up and running.
  12. A good night at club tonight, the baseboards for the new "N" guage layout arrived and as CME I had the honour of making the first pencil marks ready for track laying.

Does the club honour the CME with a special golden pencil ?

  13. This is a great layout with some very unusual and interesting rolling stock, I especially liked the railbus that looked like a routemaster with it's top deck lopped off. I spent ages watching it at the Uckfield show when I should have been stewarding and/or assisting other layouts with operator cover.
  14. Not strictly speaking on-topic, but here is animal transportation miniature railway style.
  15. If we are showing canal bridges, can I offer up for ridicule my own effort (in "N" scale and most definitely not finescale). And here it is in-situ on the club layout (when it was still a work in progress.
  16. Jerry, Is it 2015 or 2016 that you are at Ally Pally?
  17. or any of Dagenham's production with the inevitable rusty bodywork
  18. Just been commisioned to complete a Gauge 1 outdoor layout, should be an interesting experience.

Have you worked in Gauge One before? I never have. Must look mighty big stuff for 00 folk like me.

I haven't, but I do work in 7&1/4" so the principles should be the same (he hopes)

  19. I must get a copy of this issue and have a good mooch at the article. I model in "N", but I also have a 7&1/4" Class 12 (see my profile pic) and am fortunate enough to have 1 mile of layout to play with it on as well as other locos and rolling stock (links to playground in my signature). As I spend a lot of my time at the miniature railway maintaining the coaching and departmental rolling stock I would say 5" and 7&1/4" qualify as miniature engineering rather than modelling, purely due to the size of tools used and the sheer size/weight of some of the locos/etc.
  20. 31 271 has had a couple of mentions already in this thread, here is what happens if you have the temperature too high during the wash cycle
  21. I don't think even the Danish Scud-mag purveyours would stoop that low, the Fell is an obscenity deserving of a special place in hell
  22. Just come across this thread (must don hair shirt), and if this is anything like Wenfordbridge (which John kindly let me loose on back in October last year at Uckfield) it must be a pure delight to operate.
  23. One of life's great debate, which is the superior sausage - Cumberland or Lincolnshire?
