  10. Ok, Here are some pictures to show you all what Trident Trains is like inside. (Sorry about the lightning, I'm not good at indoor shots) All pictures taken with the owners permission and also I don't work there or have any connection with the shop apart from delivering parcels to the shop and being a regular custome for the last 5-6 years.
  11. Evening all, Wanted to give a review about my local model shop. The place is Trident Trains at Dagfields Craft centre Hatherton, half way between stapeley garden centre and bridgemere garden centre just off london road. been going in for the last 5 years and see the place change owners. It's a wonderful shop having just had a re-furb and extension. Very good selection on Willis, Bachmann, Hornby, Dapol, and other manufacturers. All ways a good stock level and the owner a good chap to talk too. Recently ordered a Railion 186 from him and the loco was delivered within 3 days. Great Service !!! Has cabinets with 100+ loco's on display, also has a test track to see the loco's working before you buy and also offers a decoder fitting service and loco/wagon weathering service too. Very good selection of N-gauge stock and building material to boot. Sells some second hand stuff in cabinets outside the front door. When you're in the area give him a try and be pleased, just like me. Shop opens wednesday to sunday 10am to 5pm. Thanks Mathew

  13. why are MOT's so expensive

    1. Andy Y

      Andy Y

The MOT isn't; it's the price of parts & labour that shock the system.

      Kempenfelt

Yup, like a new rear axle for me on Tuesday! There goes my months spending money!

    3. Kelly

      Kelly

new rear axle!? is it worth putting the car on the road again... yeah MoTs aren't expensive, labour costs are the real killer. Finding a good local garage and giving them repeat business I find helps a lot, especially if you make it clear to them you're on a limited budget etc.

  14. I heard a different story that the 70012 was going back to the USA and be stripped down for any useful parts (If any) then in the next batch of loco's would be 70013, 014 015 016 017, 018, 019 and 020. 70012 would not be replaced at the moment till the initial order of 30 loco's was forfilled, once the order was completed 70012 will be replaced by 70031. now whever this happens is another matter as we all know anything can and does happen in the railways.
  15. Back in hospital again............good job I can get on-line !!!

  17. Hi, Done 8 wagons so far, having a break from them now, I didn't know that Knightwing did a wood load kit. maybe a chance to look at them to see if of any use, until then I'm chopping and sawing tiny bits of wood. 8 down 6 wagon loads to go. mathew (Note to self, ALWAYS check spelling before sending the post)

  19. 6 EWS MBA's weathered and load added today, not a bad days work's............mmmmm where's the beer????

  20. The whole process of getting the right size and lenght of twig for the wagon load took about 2-3 hours, The problem was that cutting twigs from trees and hedges made making the loads harder because the twig is in effect still a living organism, once it gets cut the twig will shrink and bend over a small period of time so if you were to put the load on a wagon and glue it down with wood glue the wood will change shape. so the best type of wood is ones that are dead, this also makes the effect of the wood more realistic once glued down and in position. Once I had got the amount of wood to use, I set about in sawing the wood into the correct size by using a small hacksaw and I also used a pair of wire cutters to chop them into shape. Many many twigs later I had the right amount to build one pile on the wagon, put a layer on the wagon floor then a small amount of wood glue onto the top but not allowing the glue to go near the edge as it will show on the outside and just keep building layers till you get to the top of the stantions. I did that for the end pieces and set about doing the inner section, You do this the same way as the ends but make sure that the pieces of wood are longer that the three middle stantions or it will look out of place if you had a piece of wood that was smaller than the three stantions and if it was a real train the chances of the wood shifting and sticking out would be greater. The wood glue needs to take a good 24 hours to set and dry but i'm happy with the results of the wagon. all's it need's now is a good representation of the strapping to hold the load in. I'm not sure if I'll do the other wagons in the same way but I could do it to pass the time away over the easter break.
  21. Hi, Does this look real or is it too over scale or is it just right.. I haven't added any strapping to the load yet, trying to find the right look for them. Mathew
  22. Hi, Any idea's on when the OTA timber loads will be released by Hornby for them, Made my own with real twigs and there is no way that i'm going to do a rake of 14 wagons by cutting twigs from trees to simulate the load. Regards Mathew
