Er, Yes. Sort of impressive. At least it still had power whereas mine just stopped and threw the short circuit device into turmoil while smoking.

  2. After a serious "episode" on Sunday night followed by a £250 vets bill our loveable 12 year old Labrador seems to be restored to her usual demanding self. What is it about our relationship with dogs?

Good to hear. Our animals are precious to us.

  3. Just had a leaflet posted through the door to say a developer is seeking planning to build 50 new houses in our small village. A very significant expansion. Not in the county plan so why? No, I'm not a Nimby but why?

I assume that CBC is the old Mid Beds outfit - only the name has changed not the management! All I can say is Thank goodness I moved! You have put my original comment into perspective!

    3. chris p bacon

      chris p bacon

It's worse than you realise...CBC is the old Mid Beds District Council and South Beds DC joined together to create a Unitary authority, so the smallest shire county has 3 Unitaries (CBC, Beds Borough & Luton)with Beds Borough having an elected Mayor, so we have the equivalant of 4 Chief Exec's....got any space where you are.....

    4. highpeakman

      highpeakman

There must be space as it seems all villages in Lincs are set to grow by 10-15% over the next few years. There must be room for more developers!

  4. After a demo by Digitrains I bought a DCC Concepts Cobalt Central. Brilliant! Connects straight on to my NCE system and controls all the points without doing anything else. It's my wedding anniversary pressie from the wife - I'll tell her tomorrow!

      Mallard60022

Presumably you need Cobalt Motors with the decoders etc?

    2. highpeakman

      highpeakman

No, all Tortoises controlled by NCE Switch 8s. System was controlled from Powercab. Just plugged DCC CEntral into NCE socket and, lo, points all works from the central. Too easy!

  5. The "B" road outside our house has just been resurfaced - "dressed" - this morning. The machine doing it went past the house at amazing speed but it makes me wonder. It all looked super efficient but I have to question just how long it will last!

Loads of signs about saying 20 mph - some hope! Normally they do 50 mph in a 30 limit anyway!

What winter I have seen no winter here in Essex. At most we had 2 days with frosts.

  6. Had a fun evening last night as we lost the electric supply for over 4 hours. Luckily dinner taken out of oven minutes before it went. Came back on just as we went to bed. Thanks Northern Power Grid! But why do we still go from room to room pushing switches when we know the power is off?

This reminds me of last night in my house.

A light bulb had gone at the top of the stairs - replacing it involved going downstairs, by torchlight.

I still flicked the light switches, even though it achieved nothing.

Thankfully, the new one works fine now.

  7. How do some people's minds work? Just come back from taking my dog over the fields and discovered that someone, quite properly, cleaned up after their dog using a poo bag but then just dumped it at the side of the footpath. White plastic bag in the middle of a nice green meadow - poo bin less than 100 yds away! Warped!

Out of interest, Horse, do you have a large black sack and a big shovel with you each time you go out for a ride?

    3. Horsetan

      Horsetan

No, because my horse - for reasons best known to himself - tends to wait until he gets home. Only then the floodgates open :-O

These people see the bare bab as the offence. Once it's bagged it's job done in their eyes.

  8. Is anyone else having trouble seeing Photos on Jim's "Down by the tracks"? Lost all pics when I look at thread but all other threads show OK. Tried different browsers but same result.

  9. Getting dark out and heaving down with rain. Driving conditions not nice but some numpties driving on sidelights only (if any lights at all). Why? All cars should be wired so they cannot be driven with only "parking lights" on. Headlights on if ignition on - simple!

Yeah. Saw one of those cloaked clowns last night in high wind and driving rain. Must be frighteningly many people tired of their lives on the roads.

    3. highpeakman

      highpeakman

Headlights need to be on in fog and murk which does not require wipers on full time. Just be clear I am only advocating headlight use in poor visibilty whatever the cause although Icannot see a problem with being on all the time.

I would make it a legal requirement in Haverfordwest.

  10. Don't you just love HMRC? Received tax demand in post today wanting money because they have got my tax code wrong on calculation in spite of getting it right on my coding notice. Trying to contact them is a nightmare.

  11. A new Zimo MX634D just went off with a spectacular flash and pop when fitted to my new Heljan railbus. Oh bother! (or similar words!)

Posted back to supplier today to determine if it was faulty or my own stupidity. (Probably the latter!).

  12. Heljan Park Royal Railbus just arrived in post and looks great. Now running in on DC but have to wait for decoder to arrive before I can run on layout -Frustrating

Guilty I suppose but why a trap there when people frequently drive through my village at 60?

    2. beast66606

If a speed trap spent an hour or two in my village they could fund several bobbies on the beat from the revenue generated.
