    I've used fine gauge plain steel guitar strings for pickups for several years. Usually Rotosound high 'E' strings of .008 or .009 inch. Despite being steel they don't seem to corrode or tarnish though I do keep them clean and they get an occasional spray with Servisol switch cleaning lubricant. I have two Bachmann 08's fitted with these pickups that run faultlessly.

    Hi Simon - no luck so far and I've not yet spoken to Railtec. My 18 hoods are parked in a box. However... As Halvarras mentioned I recently purchased, 2nd hand, a pair of the Ratio models and the logos on the supplied transfer sheet look good. I may contact Peco and see if they can supply the sheets separately. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Thanks to Garry D100 for the heads up Just ordered 2 of EFE's un-weathered Clay Tigers PBA Clay Tiger At £34.95 each plus post, it's the cheapest I've seen them.

    Thanks for the reply JN - unfortunately they appear to only be available in 7mm - edit: Steve has seen this conversation and has just introduced this sheet in 4mm, see below!

    In 4mm, I have in front of me a Modelmaster sheet 4906 which contains OAA, OBA, OCA & ODA fully made up data panels/numbers. Not sure if they still make them...

    These are brilliant photos John - many thanks for posting them. My two sons live in an apartment on the quayside of number 9 dock on the opposite side to where the Manchester Liners cranes were. It's great to show them what the area looked like back in the day.

    Thanks for the link Jim . I've not seen that aspect of the fueller at Aberdeen before - only the sides and back A very useful shot and I'll base the model on that if no one comes up with a similar view of Inverness. Thanks again.

    Many thanks for taking the time to reply Graham. I've already got plenty of pictures of the sides and back of the 'shelters' but it's still nice to have another one (and yours is a cracker!) The shot I'm really after is the view looking out of the 26's engine room door. Thanks again.

    Has anyone any photos of the trackside view of the fuelling arrangements at Inverness depot in the early 1980's? I've plenty of shots of the sides of the two corrugated iron 'sheds' that acted as shelters for the pipework/pumps/etc but none from the locos view which would show how the equipment was laid out. I'm hoping to build a representation of these fuelling arrangements for a 4mm diorama. Many thanks in advance for any help.

    I've had some success removing fine plastic dust from files by standing them in a container of MEK.

    Another tip if using cotton is to run it over a wax candle before fixing in place - it stops the thread going 'furry' or 'fuzzy' over time.
