  1. Thanks very much for this informative and interesting reply Rivercider - Brilliant!
  2. They may well be Jason I'm wondering if I could use the 'flag' element from the Fox 2mm scale F2157 - ECC International stainless steel-bodied Tanker Logos and cut off the 'globe' stand? I've no idea how big the flags would be though... Thanks for the help. I may speak to Railtec and see if they could do some custom ones
  3. Are the ECC 'Flag' logos as used on China Clay Hood wagons (UCV/OOV) available as transfers in 4mm? I'm reworking some of the Bachmann models and I'm after the small white round bordered versions used on the actual hoods. Many thanks for any help as always.
  4. Reviving a topic... The various 'pool' or loading numbers(?) on Clayliner wagons such as - 7401 7451 7449 7409 etc Do they refer to pools or actual loading locations eg: Goonbarrow Rocks, Treviscoe, Drinnick Mill, etc? Many thanks for any information.
  5. I've recently been removing the printing on old Dapol PCA's and Hornby MSV's with MEK...! It works a treat but you have to be careful to only apply a small amount and remove it quickly or it can damage the factory paintwork.
  6. Thanks for the information Flood If you could check and post on here that would be grand!
  7. Thanks for the replies gents. The Modelmasters sheet MM4863 does look promising although there doesn't appear to be an image of the contents online. I've used Railtec transfers a lot recently but I can't find any CXV ones on their site. It's a shame, because their products are of superb quality and a joy to use. I might ask Steve to do a custom sheet for these Gunpowder wagons in the TOPS era - would anyone else be interested? Thanks again for the replies.
  8. I'm finishing off a small batch of 4mm scale CXV Gunpowder wagons (diag 260/261) for my late 1970's/early 1980's layout. I'm trying to find a supplier of (preferably) waterslide transfers for the CXV TOPS data panels and the 'No Unauthorised Person' plates on the doors - any ideas? As always, many thanks for any help.
  9. Give Railtec Transfers a call https://www.railtec-models.com/3dtransfers.php
  10. I've always wondered why very few (if any) of the 'Blues' ever carried their TOPS code in the data panel. Was it because they normally tended to work in block train formations?
  11. Hi Andy - don't throw them away just yet! I have successfully 'revived' several sheets of old Woodhead transfers using 'French Polish' and meths. Thinly coat the formerly sticky side of the transfer sheet with pale french polish and let it dry. Cut out around the required transfer and apply a small amount of slightly diluted meths to the area of the model where the transfer is to be located. Immediately place the 'french polished' transfer in place and lightly brush on some more diluted meths. Keep applying small quantities of the dilute meths until the carrier paper floats away. I have been able to use several hundred individual Woodhead transfers with this method that had previously dried up and broken up using normal methods of application. In my opinion the quality of Woodhead transfers is excellent and I'm so pleased that I can still use them decades later.
  12. Many thanks for the information dvdlcs and Simon
  13. When did the TOPS coding on 13 ton China Clay wagons change from UCV to OOV (or was it the other way round...:) and were there any modifications made to the wagon when this occurred? Many thanks for any help.
  14. Thanks for posting more photo's Dave. I particularly like the 40 on the mixed formation of polybulks - excellent!
  15. Great Photos Ray, thanks for posting them. Have you a date for these shots at Workington?
  16. Thanks for posting these fascinating photos Andy. If you've any more, I'm sure there are many who would like to see them
  17. Thanks Bill and Simon for the information. Best regards John.
  18. As per the title - The BR 12 Ton Plywood Fruit Van as modelled by Bachmann , when were they last used in revenue traffic?(not engineers or internal use) Did they receive a TOPS coding? Many thanks for any help.
  19. Thanks David. I'm assuming they were. There was quite a lot of timber traffic to Workington(?) Thames Board Mill(?) around that time so that would tie in with the Cumbrian coast location. Thanks again and long may you continue to spoil us with your excellent photos!
  20. More great photos Dave - many thanks again for sharing them with us all. In C8390 are the OBA's loaded with timber?
  21. Excellent photos as always Dave I particularly like C8053 showing an OBA loaded with roundwood, 'side to side' rather than the usual 'end to end'.
  22. Contact a friend with an open fire/wood stove or barbeque and scrounge some of the ash from them. Give it a sieve to remove the overscale bits and apply in and around your ashpit. If you can get hold of some, it's nice to mix in some fine chimney soot to give a darker colour and variation to the ash - quite a lot of soot would accumulate in the smokebox along with flyash from the fire.
  23. Thanks very much for taking the time to do this Bob - a great resource!
