  1. Happy New Year David - may 2018 be a healthy and peaceful time with more and more of your excellent photos to keep our spirits up! Many thanks.
  2. Thanks for posting this information Ernie. I, for one, would love to see some more
  3. Entirely agree with all of this posting A Merry Christmas Dave, many many thanks!
  4. Brilliant once again Colin! Thanks so much for taking the time to share these excellent films with us all.
  5. Hornby and Bachmann wheels that are over 12mm diameter don't fit Cambrians OBA/OCA/OTA/SPA or POA kits (and possibly others) I've built dozens of these kits and have had to use Romford or Gibson wheels.
  6. Thanks so much for posting this Colin - absolutely fascinating stuff! Can't wait for 'Diesels in Scotland'.
  7. Sorry, can't help with the topic but I have to say, what a fabulous photo 'Far North Line goods, Golspie' is - brilliant!
  8. Thanks for posting these very useful detail photo's.
  9. Thanks for the information Arran. So they were loading timber at Carrbridge, not receiving it? I'm a bit confused now... One of the photos I've seen is in 'British Railway Wagons 1980-2015' by John Dedman. On page 46 there's a picture of 37262 at the head of 8 loaded OBA's with the following caption:- "This scene at Carrbridge in Scotland shows OBA's in timber traffic. No 37262 Dounreay has arrived from the north with loaded wagons and will return north with the empty wagons in the foreground.... 29 May 1989" which seems to infer there was timber being received at Carrbridge at least at this time. Or perhaps the wagons were left here to be collected by another trip for operational reasons? I've also just had a quick look in 'Freight Only Volume 3' which shows the 6H11 trip from Inverness arriving at Culloden on July 27 1988. In the caption it mentions:- "...the first three wagons carry timber to Carrbridge..." Maybe Carrbridge was a location that received and dispatched timber traffic around this time. The plot thickens...
  10. I'm fitting new underframes to a rake of 4mm Hornby OAA's and was wondering if anyone supplies the handbrake levers as an etch? Also, what replacement buffers can I use on these wagons? Thanks for any help.
  11. Style 2 - very much how I remember them passing Alty GS in the 70's...
  12. I've seen several photos of OBA's with timber in the sidings at Carrbridge in the Highlands in the 1980's. Was this traffic destined for a local sawmill and where was it coming from? Also, when did this traffic run and did it continue after the demise of Speedlink? Many thanks for any help.
  13. Just an update on my experience of the MEK supplied by 'Shinyhardware'. Bought 1 litre (probably see me out for the duration ) on Ebay for £9.99 including P&P. It works very well bonding styrene sheet/strip, Cambrian kits and also the black 'plastic' underframes on old Hornby OAA wagons. I've no connection with the supplier.
  14. Thanks very much for the information
  15. Brilliant photos - thanks so much for sharing them. I especially like the freight stock on view. I presume the OAA's were involved in the Corpach paper traffic, but why are they stabled in the goods sidings?
  16. Following this thread with interest I don't want to drag things off topic(!) but would air braked vans have been used on the explosives traffic on the Cambrian prior to the Barmouth bridge closure to freight? Or would the CXV Gunpowder vans have handled the traffic till the end? Conversely, would any CXV's ever have been loaded at Maentwrog Road? Thanks for any help.
  17. Thanks Nigel and I'm glad it works well. I had an issue with an Ebay supplier of 'MEK' - it smelt a bit 'solventy' but it didn't dissolve/glue anything... You can set fire to it though In fairness, the Ebay seller refunded my money without question. Thanks again.
  18. Please let us know how you get on with this. Could you post a link to the item?
  19. This is fascinating stuff Dave - many thanks for taking the time to prepare and post all this information.
  20. More excellent photos Dave - many thanks for continuing to post them! A question - there looks to be some grain or alumina(?) wagons on the staithes in C6807. Were they in traffic use or stored?
  21. Thanks so much for sharing this - absolutely brilliant!
  22. Brilliant videos Colin. Thanks so much for posting them. Just a quick question - I noticed that the 2 x 20 hauled ICI hopper train had a brake van on the rear. Was this a regular occurance at the time?
  23. I'm not 'simply shooting from the hip' - please read my posts above. You also say you haven't seen the model yet - I have the benefit when I comment, of having an actual production model in front of me as I type... I'm old as well Paul. The standard of build and finish on recent models is incredible. The Bachmann Polybulk quality of finish and printing is breathtaking as are Heljan Cargowaggons, Dapol Silver Bullets and many, many others. They probably all have little faults and you either live with them or vote with your wallet. I could never build or finish anything remotely to the standard of current 4mm RTR stock and that's why I bought the Kernow PBA - it's a model I've been waiting for for a long time and I was glad when DJM took over the job from Dapol. I like Daves approach to model development and how he listens to the response from potential customers. I think that's why I was slightly disapointed when I received the model in the post. Maybe I was expecting too much. My original post #60 was purely to give my own opinion on a model in response to other modellers request's for views on the Kernow PBA wagon. I've commented positively on several aspects of the model as well as having some reservations. I've qualified all my comments with the proviso 'to my eyes' and 'it appears to me' - ie: it's my opinion and I could well be wrong. However, I feel to be criticised for simply expressing an opinion on a forum, isn't a good thing.
