  1. The BMC/ BL cars of Australia are very interesting 2.6 marina, hatchback ADO16 (1100 range) Austin Kimberly to name but a few
  2. Working vacuum brakes wow! Where abouts is this railway, would love to see more pictures of the railway
  3. We didn't have anyone spare over that side today. I was train crew leader but don't sign down there as a driver
  4. Thought GB would have had the contract for moving the crane the seem to have the contract for everything else!
  5. It's so important to record the memories of old railwaymen, I actually worked with a very interesting chap who actually rode on the rosedale branch as his father was a driver there. Sid who incidentally started as a cleaner at Pickering unfortunately died in service not long before his 65 birthday. He would unfortunately have only have been a child when the line was open but did remember quite a lot about it
  6. Not sure if it's still there but about three years ago there was still one of these at reading depot in rerailing livery
  7. There is a picture of one of these on BR somewhere. Would have been interesting trying to assist it had it failed! Is there any other loco's buiit for abroad being tested on BR?
  8. Cheers, this was the one I was thinking about. Didn't realise that more than one had ran on BR
  9. Wasn't there a diesel that was built by Birmingham RCW that was tested on BR in the 50s?
  10. Great pictures again David A shame that the works closed and that the buildings were demolished as they and the sidings would have been better than the NRM shildon as it was a much bigger site
  11. Wasn't that the first electrically hauled passenger train into York .I believe it was driven by the driver that the BBCs railwatch followed?
  12. The problem with this is that the bell codes wouldn't be right for the different class of trains it may sound pedantic but if you are going to that level of detail you really want it to be correct. Also if you have bells you also need the crashing of levers when routes are cleared or reset
  13. I may be wrong but I'm sure I've seen them fitted in 67 pictures I think it may have been for the large amount of unfitted work they did and Thornaby ones had jobs with steep gradients which knocked hell out of oleos
  14. That was reasonably common North East mod there are pictures of green 37 in the 60s on Teesside with this mod
  15. I've seen video footage of them where the lights appear to flash. You'd think with the lights strobing it would give people headaches when driving at night but I've not found this to be the case and I do the late turn probably more than anyone
  16. I see the headlights are refusing to have their pictures taken again! I'd love to know what causes this phenomenon. I went out with a mate for some beers yesterday happy to report the 20mph restriction at Witlingham has been removed
  17. Before they put the slack on here it threw you all over the place at 60 They are taking their time in repairing it
  18. What livery is that saloon and sleeper? Last I saw of it it was yellow with black ends
  19. I'd have thought now the company name is on the side of the loco they would give up with the silly headboards I'm no fan of personal headboards
  20. As it says at the end of the excellent Woodhead video ' whatever happened to British railways greatest post war achievement!'
  21. 10s and 11s were different animals, 10s were 08 type locomotives with Blackstone engines while 11s were locomotives built to an LMS design with smaller wheels but the same engine as an 08 but again no train brake
  22. So the 11s started to be withdrawn the same time as the first 08s Did any of the no train brake 08a carry TOPS numbers
  23. Incidentally did the 08s built without train brakes get withdrawn early or did they get train brakes? The
