  1. Interesting to see Quainton as it was everywhere you went there was a loco or coach awaiting restoration, unkindly we called it the scrap yard only in jest but to see the site now you realise what a good job they have done. When you go there now it is to site of excellence with many interesting objects .
  2. In the 1950,s I used to go to my aunties in Walthamstow near Wood Street station ,in the afternoon the United Dairies horse led milk floats would come back to the depot opposite her flat and go up a steep ramp at amazing speeds. There a lot of them and I found out the stables were on the top floor the dairy was the biggest in the area and lasted until the middle sixties then it was knocked down and flats were built . We have our milk delivered by a local dairy its good to to have glass bottles this is an interesting thread .
  3. You are right the days merge together often I think Thursday is Friday and I cant remember names which can be a problem but at least I remember what I am doing in my railway shed !
  4. Well the doomsayers have spoken but what will happen is still not laid out for people to understand ,by delaying work this project will cost more because of rising prices. If the line is stopped which more and more people seem to want this all of the skilled workers will disappear and the work sites left to crumble. Governments in the UK have all showed that they are not the people to be managing this and other projects as to much attention is paid to ,will this keep us in power? Work around this area has definitely slowed down with acres of countryside left overturned by work not changing for months at a time .Work around Wendover is moving slowly I shall see what is going on with new roads being built hopefully the road from Butlers Cross to Wendover will be open on on Thursday so I can see whats going on. Its a great shame that the UK has lost the will to improve expand travel on land and seems to let the air lines do what they want. The only industry that seems busy is housebuilding and noone seems to want this!
  5. Like this layout the scenery is of a very high quality ,the beach looks very good and realistic you almost can hear the waves this will keep you busy during the move,
  6. Read an article that covered this part of the world ,a councillor in Glenfinan reported that he was concerned about the number of motorists parking badly and just rushing across the road to the viaduct without any regard for their or anyone else's safety. There is to be a complete reappraisal of everything to do with the Highland lines in the near future by the Scottish Government so maybe we will see more trains. The steam service is a very important part of the economy therefore they have to upgrade the coaches asap.
  7. Went past works at Waddesdon Cross Rds today and progress being made on new junction for Whitchurch Rd A41 and new bypass ,the road from Whitchurch going up to the junction has acquired kerbs. The junction is difficult to see because of piles of earth everywhere but things might improve soon I hope.
  8. Back in the sixties we never went to Amersham on the A413 always via Rocky Lane and along the top road and down into Chesham and turn right for a mile and a half to Amersham ,not many cars and good scenery . A climb to start but we were fit cyclists and enjoyed it would not want be on the roads now motorists are hateful in the way they treat cyclists and walkers.
  9. Still cannot understand the mind set of the mandarins at the DFT they are incapable of making decisions that are of benefit to the paying passengers on the network ,just look at the cuts in the East West rail .It started out as a project that provided everything required for a line that would provide routes for a wide range of services, but look at it now a basic branch line that will only provide a basic service and nothing to Aylesbury. The people in charge need to be made aware that they are public servants and their latest project to close ticket offices in favour of mobile phones is a disgrace and is biased towards one section of our community. Everybody else can take a running jump we dont want to know you .Typical of the powers that be nowadays ,ivory towers come to mind ,
  10. Make the most of them ASLEF are threatning to boycot them .like the layout
  11. All coming on well you will soon be laying track but dont start running to many trains as it stops you doing the best bit ,scenic modeling thats when the fun starts . Your loacal village sounds amazing ,all those businesses you are lucky ,I suppose the surrounding hamlets etc all converge on it. You would find towns in the UK a real failure we are losing shops services very fast plus those left are always out of stock. I have to do a twenty mile round trip to get to my model railway store ,worth it once there but we cope pity we cant follow the French model. Like the way your legs are fitted keep up the good work enjoy seeing your progress.
  12. The interchange outside Waddesdon is taking shape the road up to the new complex when approaching from the Quainton direction is rapidly becoming obvious as is the central area ,with the bridges over HS2 being constructed and the A41 exit onto the Waddesdon bypass starting to be apparent. Going toward Aylesbury the new A41 carriageway is ready and will join the existing road at the main compound leaving the old A41 as a service road to a couple of farms. On Wednesday morning whilst the a thet centre in Berryfields I could see a great deal of work going on where the viaduct will start. On Thursday I had to pass through Wendover and use the new road from Terrick crossroads into the village ,you now follow the old road and then take a series of bends ,go over a rather smart girder bridge and join the bypass. Were the line is to cross the A413 the actual route is very obvious and a very extensive area leading up to the tunnels is vast and very busy, further up the road to Amersham traffic lights are installed with entrance on the left to a tunnel service point. Work is ramping up round here and I think much of the rail route is going to be well ahead by the end of the year.I think that the diversion road into Wendover from Butlers Cross is being sorted out now as this road is closed until the 23rd July will report the week after 23rd as to what is going on here.
  13. Very glad to see that the Aylesbury link is still there and will perhaps be used for passengers if the DFT make up their minds but I am not holding my breath.
  14. Numbers of passengers are steadily increasing as more houses are built plus people from the north of the town are increasing. It takes time to get usage up .
  15. The road fom Terrick crossroads to the Wendover bypass is now finished and now joins the bypass at was the left hand side ,in Wendover the new road down to the line is taking shape rapidly not sure just what it will be used for yet but its being made to a high standard. Where the line will cross the Butlers cross road is taking shape, a house has been demolished and you can see the alignment clearly. The diversion when the A413 is closed for the new bridge works is ridiculous ,it takes you via Wycombe Risboro when all you have to do is turn off through Missenden and go onto the road to Butlers Cross this is a quick way but not suited to HGV,s .Seems to be a rise in anti HS2 at the moment hope there are no further cuts in budget or infrastructure as it is now at a critical point and needs to be left alone.
  16. Your excellent work is making me think about having a go on my green 37 like what you are doing.
  17. Have a good day off and maybe you will fee like the work on the layout tomorrow ,the sun is out here so maybe a gentle hour on the layout.
  18. Its so good to see a Great Eastern layout I particuarily enjoyed the sugar beet loading dont think I have seen this depicted before ,you have captured the atmosphere of the area and trafficnso well.
  19. The next national strike will there be anything left on our railways?
  20. Chris
  21. When I go to Bembridge I pass here it looks very impressive now the station areas is much cleaner plus the units are a good replacement for old ones.
