  1. This one of 6430 looks a tad more pround than the one of the rusting 6412 https://www.flickr.com/photos/wrightfamilyarchives/5638891856
  2. Not sure from how far back the photographer got the nickname, but the scan was only made in 2012.
  3. Don't think they would fit round the connections from the GWR to the LMS in the Up Yard at Bordesley, and the list provided by Stationmaster says they were barred via Barnt Green.
  4. Now up again at the old price.
  5. If at first you don't succeed http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1918-CHURCHWARD-2800-CLASS-NO-2861-AMER-COM-NEW-IN-PACAKAGING-/381036448287?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=Cy3kQwxS3GpD5IZ0gHGUlABGkyM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Try putting the price up http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361117603586?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  6. Went there on a big shed bash around that time. Note the cupboard on the left has a plate saying LMSR Electric Supply.
  7. Looking closely that red is almost fully visible and the signal for this train has a registration arm across it. These don't generally cause a problem on their own, insulators can be the real bugbear. It looks like the picture is taken approaching the North London line bridge at Dock Junction South, so the line speed from the signals would be 50mph on the Fast and 20mph through the connection ahead of the Slow line signal reducing to 20mph for all lines about 600 yards further on.
  8. In 2006 our train stopped near to Jasper because of a large bear sitting in the four foot.
  9. It is sold as "Night Freight". http://www.quicksilverpublishing.co.uk/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34_27&products_id=64
  10. Some Western men also worked into Washwood Heath on freights from the Bordseley direction, so Duddeston Road could be a changeover place if the set was going straight through to say Reading.
  11. I would expect the main option for deliveries from Derby to the WR would have been Tamworth - Saltley - Bordesley Junction - Tyseley.
  12. I have seen a minimum radius at normal speed of 8 chains or 7 chains at slow speed quoted for the 47xx. This compares with 7 chains / 6 chains for a 28xx and 6chains / 4.5 chains for the Stanier and WD 2-8-0s so along with the weight, the chassis was very restrictive on route availability.
  13. Good news for many people modelling over a period of about 40 years. A DTS for my Bubble Car would be top of the wish list, followed by a speed whisker Tyseley set from around 1960.
  14. I think all of those Lima bits I was saving to do a DTS for my Bubble Car can be sorted and listed now.
  15. Now on a repeat performance with two Grandsons.
  16. He shouldn't get bad feedback for accuracy of the description. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-pile-of-crap-runner-PUG-locomotive-S-R-00-gauge-combine-P-P-/351220422730?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item51c65e584a
  17. OMG, it sold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Expect you will be fighting through the crowds at the NEC this weekend, but if you're not the Crab and L&Y 0-6-0 will be running the East Lancs service again with the Jinty in LMS livery as Bury station pilot. First train Sunday is the Crab/0-6-0 double header again I believe.
  19. Around 1965 during the rebuilding of New St one of the fill-in jobs for the loco off the morning train from Crewe was to return from Vauxhall & Duddeston after dropping the ECS and work the Adderley Park spoil. This was usually a lot of brick ends and scrap in a variety of superannuated 3, 5 and 7 planks, hybars, tube wagons, et al. Normally a Class 24 working, one day I called in and found 70000 working it.
  20. Doesn't say it's a weathered edition in my book but I see there's a couple more around. Looks more like they got paintballed. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-Transrail-Co-Co-Class-37-Diesel-Electric-Locomotive-R2409-Weathered-Edt-/261656480877?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3cebf10c6d
  21. Not just GWR locos at S-o-A. When the new spur was opened an L1 2-6-4T was used for one of the road learning trips. In 1965 31639 and 33006 worked a railtour over the SMJ. Additionally, although they used the GWR station IIRC, there were records of Jubilees working specials for the theatre trips via Birmingham.
  22. IIRC Red Star 08721 had yellow stripes, anyone confirm this?
  23. DOH! Just spent 20 minutes looking for a picture on't'interweb then realised it was in a book on the computer desk.

I have moments like that, such as waving wet hands underneath a paper towel dispenser...
