  1. There are some signalbox sounds like block bells on one of Peter Hanford's recordings. I think it may have been "West of Exeter"
  2. New bike arrived for Mrs SE. That should stand me in good stead for at least a couple of parcels of trains.

She was wondering what the wicker basket on the front was for, then?

Or maybe even a couple of parcels trains...?

  3. I was on a signalling course at Derby at the time and we had a class of DSB technicians staying there on a BR Mk3 stock maintenance course.
  4. Come on George Osborne. Don't let your Northern Powerhouse become the Northern Powercut.

Actually there were/are 6 south of the Wash and three north of the Wash in England.

  6. Why do architects always design a bit into the bathroom that can't be painted without hugging the toilet bowl.

Leave the paint and brush there and just touch it up next time you've had a bad night on the brew.

Well if it was easy to reach, then it would mean the toilet was in the middle of the room, surely?

They have a heart for toilet bowl huggers, obviously!

  7. The lines on mine are not visible from about 18" away, which is as close as I ever see during running, Equally the handrails, although not looking quite right from close up are hardly prominent at normal viewing distance and angle.
  8. If the damage isn't too bad you could always put on a 'Condition of Track' temporary speed restriction, very prototypical in your era.
  9. Found a Lima DMBS and TCL and a DMU detailing pack in my oddments box. Cut'n'Shut session well on the way to a DTS for the Bubble Car.

If you haven't cut too micxh yet, try a Silver Fox DMS conversion, which has the correct window spacing for the DTS in 2 pieces plus seating. It is the old TPM casting. I'm just lining out my 121 DTS conversion.

Don't forget that when built, the 121 trailers did not have corridor connections, these were added mid to late 80's to allow them to operate with other dmu class power cars as hybrid sets. Info from this forum.

  10. Back around 1968 I think it was. Set off from Birmingham to Gloucester with the intention of watching some cricket. By the time we passed Cheltenham it was clear that there would be no play today, so stayed on to Bristol to see what was about. There was a tremendous thunderstorm as I arrived and more coming by the look of it so I headed back on the next train north. Water was over the rails near Abbotswood and ours was the last train to make it through from Cheltenham to Birmingham for nearly three days.
  11. So presumably you would advise us against buying any mass produced RTR models then? I don't think I have seen one yet that is perfect, but given the limitations of materials and manufacturing methods there will always be some compromise.
  12. I have one scanned but the file size is too big for here at present. I will edit later and post if anyone is interested.
  13. The North Cornwall Railway website doesn't list any IIRC, but they certainly got used to Barnstaple Junction and Okehampton.
  14. Back on line after a week away. 41 pages of posts to read, will Coachmann have ripped it up and started again?

Behave! Peco doesn't get ripped up, it is gently removed and the sponge inlay used to stuff my computer chair...

That's like saying Rolls Royces never break down - they merely glide to a halt.

  15. I saw the Fawley-Bromfords with both a mix of tanks or a full train of one type. I suspect that the barrier wagons were allocated to the service, as the second wagon in the second photo appears to be an ex SR 8-Plank vac fitted open. This combination also appears in a photo I have seen with the train on the SR headed by a Jubilee.
  16. No chance of getting rid of that at the time, our mess room was in there and somewhere I still have the sign from the office door. The steps at the side were the Porters' access from the platforms to the Golden Eagle.
  17. Bit of a grotty picture, but from an old print. Taken on a shed bash c1961/2
  18. I am not arguing that this model is not worth the price compared with the current prices charged for other coaching stock. Had the model been released at the time it was first delivered it would have been sold by Hattons, etc at £24, their original pre-order price. Bachmann withdrew it then delivered it after the price increases, forcing retailers to initially sell it at a higher price under their trading terms. Had it been released and sold with the other models at £24 then the manufacturer admitted it was defective, offering you a replacement, would you expect to have to pay £10 extra to get it? There would be more froth on here than Watneys Keg if they tried to pull that one.
  19. Yes, i forgot that one, and only about 300 yards from the second photo in the original post.
  20. I don't know what the original issue leading to the delayed release of the Brake Third was but I hope Bachmann didn't alter something they got right in the first place then rip us off for a Tenner for making it wrong.
  21. I remember that email at the time of the Bachmann price rise but can't find a copy at the moment. Later they sent another email backtracking on the first promise.
