  1. I remember that email at the time of the Bachmann price rise but can't find a copy at the moment. Later they sent another email backtracking on the first promise.
  2. Other than the fact that both items repeat the wrong number in the heading am i missing something here? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R2249-LMS-8F-renumbered-LNER-3516-NMIB-/131512027489?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e9eba4961 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181748350244?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  3. We've been made to pay for Bachmann's problem here. If the alledged mistake in the originals had not been spotted until after they had been sent out I would have expected a replacement at no extra cost.
  4. These got well mixed in later years. I've seen one picture (by Michael Mensing IIRC) at Snow Hill of a King on a Cambrian extra which looks to be made up Stanier Porthole Brake, Stanier non-Porthole SK, Collett 57' Bow-end, Hawksworth, BR Mk1 (Choc/Cream)..........so plenty of choice. I'll probably take two to mix in with my other stock, but may wait for a maroon one for the second. Perhaps I might end up with three......?
  5. You could always build one of these. http://www.flickr.com/photos/robdaniels/7506400808
  6. You would be better having the TD as a separate VDU, which we did at a number of places during the TRUST scheme. I did a mock-up of such a system driven by a 32K BBC computer when it first came out in 1982, so it doesn't need much computing power to run it.
  7. Sugar beet was carried in any available open wagons during the harvest season. In later years before road haulage took over 16T minerals were the most common.
  8. They only exist to take money off unsuspecting punters, not to know what they are talking about.
  9. And the answers to yesterday's quiz were:- 1) The Stationmater's daughter 2) the 4.50 from Paddington, and 3) not while the train is in the station.

  10. Wolverhampton PSB 1965-2015. Goodbye old friend. RIP.

  11. The number 017 would put it at 1959, as the Capitals United became A13 in 1960 according to a picture on David Hey's site.
  12. I don't know about 1967, but a couple of years earlier 1N28 was a Cardiff - Newcastle working.
  13. Don't forget that most of the centre-box Peaks were originally fitted with the split variety, only getting the single panel type when the original one rusted or there was nose damage.
  14. Mountain Bike is poorly bad sick again. Do I try to fix it or start looking for a replacement?

Steve, brakes probably neat end of useful life, as are front and rear mechs and shifters. Frame??

BonB, I had that thought as well, probably a well-balanced fleet of around 20.

ebay for replacement parts, assuming you are cool with the frame? Last I looked, with a bit of patience there was some nice Avid hydraulics knocking about. Cycling has a lot of magpies who always have to have the latest shiny stuff and have to get rid of the old and dowdy. Alternatively if you use a small frame I can sell you mine :D

  15. A ride along the High Peak Trail today revealed several items remaining from before the closure in 1967. These were from just south of the junction at Parsley Hay. Firstly two of the many old mileposts still in situ along the line. Secondly the fixed distant signal approaching from the Hopton direction. It has a concrete post and the remains of the fittings appear to be of LNWR pattern.
  16. Why is it that when you seem to be having a better day someone comes along and spoils it.

  18. Bit the bullet and paid the price. Mine arrived today, and despite the whinges about fireiron hook sizes and step handrails on here it looks rather nice from normal viewing distance. My only gripe would be that the pickups were wildly out of adjustment, two not touching the wheels on the straight and the other four losing contact before the maximum lateral movement of the wheels was reached. Fixed in five minutes but shouldn't have been necessary.
  19. Patience. It's only 10 days since Martin officially ceased trading and we've had Easter during that time.
  20. My set-up has 3 traffic sidings, a private siding and an engineers siding. Traffic is also dropped or picked up on the main line, Being set loosely around the 1959/61 period, I keep one shunting loco on site, chosen from a Jinty or two 08s. An 03 also sometimes appears on a trip working. I could probably manage most shunts with trip locos, but it is convenient to have one loco resident and available to disappear from time to time up the branch with a few wagons.
  21. I don't have access to these drawings now but some people on here do. They may be able to help if you know specifically what you want. They are actually owned by Network Rail now I think. They are accessible through some subscription sites but I don't know af a free one at the moment. The drawings are listed here in Appendix M20 http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Railway_Group_Standards/Control%20Command%20and%20Signalling/Manual/GKRM0900%20Iss%203.pdf You need to scroll down to pages 157 - 165 of the PDF file for colour light signals.
  22. Finally got round to testing today. Fine straight out of the box on the rollers and on the workshop plank, no stuttering over dead frogs. Thanks Dave.
  23. Clamp down on the doors to the platforms at Manchester Piccadilly tonight. Multiple TOC staff checking all tickets accompanied by Police and Immigration staff.

I saw that this evening too. Plus the barriers are now live at Victoria. And my ticket was gripped leaving a "Cheshire Cat" cut out in it this morning!

and yet the checks onto 13 & 14 were missing!

  24. For the BR period you need drawings in the BRS-SM series. The later ones showing colour light signal posts and fittings are around BRS-SM 2050 to BRS-SM 2094 although there will be others elsewhere in the series. The earlier BR version starts from around BRS-SM 51 onwards.
