  1. That photo, is the only one I have ever seen of the LSWR/SR station. The Mayflower marina occupies the area now.
  2. I think you need a 2nd layout based on Exeter St Davids to Exeter Queen Street. 😆😆
  3. Easy enough to pack SMP track up to match other makes of track, but I would suggest that at least the last 3 or 4 inches should be level with whatever the other track is.
  4. Don't forget that Colin from Alan Gibson, will be at Scaleforum at High Wycombe over the weekend of 23/24 September.
  5. My only advice to good track building is not to rush and test at every stage. The 1st test will probably be a wheel set and then a bogie, followed by a short wheelbase wagon and progress upwards. An 0-6-0 chassis without a motor is a good test, that is one that tends to highlight problems.
  6. I was involved with a similar problem with uptake joints for gas turbines, when we were privatised we were told to ditch our stock of joints, about 10 grand a time at 1980s prices per uptake x 4 per ship. We hid them away and waited until the brown and smelly hit the fan, when a stage payment date was going to be missed, worth around 1/2 a million, the bean counters relented, when we pulled the iron out of the fire, but we left it until the 11th hour and got our guys some overtime.
  7. I have a couple of the new etched designed chassis and if I were at home I would take a photo of one in the flat, but currently I am in transit towards Heathrow for my flight tomorrow.
  8. Is the universe, flat? A bit like the old Earth?
  9. Hopefully it can be built without the cab shutters and the straight bunker sheet, not sure that's the correct terminology for no top rear lamp protection.
  10. Only if it has scrambled egg on the front of the hat and strips around the sleeves.
  11. If it does move, have you greased it? Sorry, a naval tradition, sometimes Jack will paint it even if it does move, making it virtually impossible to move without resorting to heat and big hammers.
  12. MERG, do Servo4, which controls 4 servos for around a fiver each, you will need some soldering skills to assemble them. A 12 Volt power supply, plus an on/off switch for each set of points.
  13. When flying or overnight Amtrak trains, I always have a small backpack in which I carry essentials for 48 hours. The only time my case has gone missing was when I travelled on the Texas Eagle, from Chicago to LA. The case arrived around 8 hours after me, this is the only time it's happened, no doubt I have tempted fate, for my next trip.
  14. Last summer I went to Antwerp, I alighted in Brussels, exited the platform, checked to confirm the time and platform, from which the train left and went for a coffee. No sign of any customs or immigration. The return journey, required immigration checks in Brussels, before joining the train from Amsterdam. Not much room on the platform, once we were allowed up on to it.
  15. The worst airport arrival that I experienced was landing at JFK about 15 minutes early, then sitting on the tarmac for around 45 minutes and then a 3 hour queue for immigration. Not an experience I wish to repeat any time soon. I have never experienced any problems at mainline railway stations, especially if you have some idea of where you need to go, next!
  16. https://www.dartcastings.co.uk/shire.php#OOGaugeEtchedSidestoConvertRatioCoaches The LE7N ends are normally available, but they are now out of stock, since I bought the last one at Railwells.
  17. Once past Exeter, sheer grunt is more important than, top end speed and more so west of Newton.
  18. I believe that Dart castings/Shirescenes, do the ends, floors and rooves, for the Shirescenes 4 wheel etched sides. It may save a few bob, over the purchase of a kit.
  19. For my big 50 birthday, my parents gave me a 3 countries Eurail pass, this gave me discounted prices in Britain. My journey took me to Gibraltar. My itinerary was Plymouth to London and overnight there. Waterloo to Paris and overnight there. Paris to Tour and overnight there. Tour to Toulouse and overnight there. Toulouse to Barcelona and overnight there. Barcelona to Cordoba, via Madrid, overnight in Cordoba. Cordoba to Algeciras and bus to Gib. Return from Gib to Algeciras back on the train to Granada and overnight. Granada to Barcelona and overnight. Barcelona to Avignon and overnight. Avignon to Lyon via the French Alps, overnight in Lyon. Lyon to Paris and overnight. Paris to London and overnight. Return to Plymouth. The only booked trains were Plymouth to London and return and the Eurostar. The trains in Spain were booked at the overnight stays, and the TGV from Lyon. The only accommodation booked was London and Paris, everything else was done at the local tourist office. From Paris onwards, was all done on the fly. Be very ware of pickpockets in Barcelona, one got a severe headache, when his head collided with my grip.
  20. As Olddudders has said, there is only one issue of eyes, you need to get it checked out. Does Cardiff have an eye infirmary? The one in Plymouth has an A & E. I used it in the late 70s when I got swarf in my eye, drilling out a bolt on the anti roll bar on my cortina. I had to attend every day for a week, whilst they removed the swarf. I always wear googles now, when drilling anything, now.
  21. The Plymouth club have fitted a small piece of foam which bears lightly against the axle, to stop recalcitrant wagons from running off.
  22. Hi All, Do you know of anyone that produces etched door ventilators? I have sacrificed some to the great carpet god. Also I have a Blacksmith clerestory kit, that has no ventilators for the clerestory. Many thanks.
