There was an article in railway modeller on how to upgrade the turntable... I'm halfway through mine (like everything else!) - basically putting wheels on it to make it run smoothly.
Frizinghall models also offer a motorising kit which appears to be worth the cost.
As for the wiring - there should have been a pair of wires with it that you can wire straight to the track or to the controller
Good luck!

Have you thought about filler? (the type used when building that is applied with a spatula)
-
Definitely ballast, then give the ballast a light covering of snow. On a busy line the snow is likely to get melted or blown off with trains passing

The coaches look very good, and I agree that they would sure as hell not be uniform in reality - fading, upgrades, you name it.
I love your bridge there as well - do you know if there is an N gauge version?
-
They look good

Wow looks awesome! Wish I had that much space...

Wow that is gorgeous!

Pity I'll be stuck on the other side of the world. Would be good to see Vic Bridge in person

I love the extendable boards idea!

N gauge DCC is a Good Idea , especially with the type of layout you will be running. The ability to set 2 slow freight trains running on the main line while using the same controller for managing shunting activities in the yard...
Perhaps an option until you can get N DCC sound will be speakers hidden around the layout with pre-recorded sound? (e.g. IR triggered sound for diesel horn coming up to a road crossing, etc)
Good luck!

I concur - just building an N gauge layout and Thomas has been an important purchase both for myself and the next generation!

Just got my set from Japan. For the kids sake I have to keep them as Annie and Clarabel... Doesn't mean I have to run them without seats and people though... Just done a bodge job with plasticard creating seats for Annie and soon be doing the same for Clarabel...

Looks good! Keep us up to date on how those Cobalt motors turn out...
-
I'd be tempted to sand the other end smooth to match... and paint the inside too

re: the buffers on the corners - *modify* them to be hydraulic? They look like they are halfway there. I'll have to confirm when mine arrive... (currently stuck at Japans outgoing terminal)
I'm sure we can collaborate on this?
