I saw a 68 on some loaded IOAs yesterday (the wagons said IOA on the side, I wouldn't know otherwise). My first time seeing one up close, and two things struck me - they're quite small, aren't they? And the engine note is a lovely, bassy rumble. I could get to like that...

The new short "dog" set arrives in Anglia tomorrow night - in theory services start next week meaning we'll have top and tailed 37s and also top and tailed 68s on the Yarmouth / Lowestoft services - heaven !!

I saw a pair on the Tesco Express a few days ago, accelerating away from Carnforth, fast and noisy. Excellent.

I saw a pair yesterday at Salisbury, top 'n' tailing some yellow NR test coaches. I was passing on a GWR 158, so was too close to see the numbers (and on the wrong side of the train) but from Real Times Trains website it seems they are doing Paignton and Penzance today before returning to Old Oak and then Derby. They are certainly spreading their sphere of operation.

On 02 July 2016 the 68s where on their first passenger stock working, this was running empty and was stopping at all stations for a minute or two and then moving on.

As it was a Saturday I decided to go out for them.

7400 HP on a three coach train!

Has the world gone mad?

A couple of days ago I saw one of the Sellafield - Crewe flask trains, two class 66s pulling one waggon. But the flask trains are always doubleheaded whatever the load. Great for modellers with more locos than waggons.

68017 which had been the Norwich AGA coach move loco went back North on Saturday 09 July, unfortunately the path was put in the system while I was asleep and as it was an early one it had already started rolling before I spotted it - and it was then too late to get it.

The good news is it was replaced by 68019.

The nameplate was photographed as it passed me at around 60mph, so quite pleased it came out !
