  1. I absolutely love your work. Brings back so many memories of my home town.
  2. Thanks for the photos guys. I enjoy following this thread.
  3. I was going to buy one of these vans for Christmas, the thing that put me off a little being that an awful lot of the sounds wouldn't be right on my layout and my lenz is going to struggle to play some of them. But hey-ho, it's not a lot of money so why not. And then train tech/gauge master bring out focused versions, cheaper, sooner. I feel a little sorry for Hornby - TTS seems to have been very successful and just as they move to expand, someone beats them to it. So be it. I wonder if the speaker for the TT/GM unit can be upgraded
  4. Just noticed these in the train tech PDF catalogue. Impressive. I'm a fan of the train tech stuff - works well straight out of the box. As has been said, very similar to TTS and note focused to a scene rather than the slightly Jack of all trades Hornby tts van
  5. I presume it was aimed at me. Fair enough, I can take it, but as i stressed I'm supportive of the project. But ask yourself this - a poster has queried what he's getting for his $1300 and when he's being expected to part with it. The t&c which he quoted and I commented on are ambiguous and give a very real indication that that you part with your cash today and could receive nothing because you accepted the risk. No model, no money back - that was the risk you took. Now fair enough in the case of crowdfunders, they get a financial incentive of a cheaper model and staged payments, but those paying full price actually seem to be disincentivised to purchase it. Clearly the "legal stuff" has not been "sorted out ages ago" because, as you point out, we're still here. Its easily within Dave's capabilities to resolve this at the point of purchase, not in some comment on a forum that we have to wade through to find. And that's the rub, because he will lose sales as things stand, risking the project and i don't want that. Dave has been bold in setting up his own company, taking risks and a lot of flak that went with it. I've supported him with my own pocket and have five of his locos, including one that was crowdfunded. But until there is clarity with the APT in what i'm getting for my money, for me, this is too big a financial risk. I hope this clarifies things for you - I'm not a "doom merchant" and I think i've been "grown up" about it and would appreciate if you respected that other people may have an opinion different to yours.
  6. To be clear, as previously stated, I wish the project my very best and sincerely hope it comes to a highly successful fruition.
  7. I know this is old ground, bur those t&c are something else. One paragraph says djm is totally responsible (including supply of finished model), the other that you partcipate at your own risk. If you're asking me to part with £1300 up front, I'd want more surety than this.
  8. This is RMWeb bingo. Get all 4 in one post and shout "HOUSE!". You get a special prize - the Oxford Rail Book of Colours
  9. The heroes of the younger generation are the youtubers. Perhaps something that a few here will struggle to understand. But they post videos about their day, where they've been, what they've done. The closest I see to this is Intercity82 who seems to know exactly who is market is, knows what to say, knows the level to pitch it at. I've seen him get a fair bit of stick here, people who just don't get it. His trains run on the floor of his conservatory, much to the chagrin of some people. I wonder how he feels when he gets his payment from google? 70,000 subscribers to his channel. By way of comparison - Hornby 13,500, Bachmann 9,600, BRM 17,500, Kylie Jenner 3,300,000. Laughing all the way to bank! And that's the problem. The media just cannot seem to resist doing this. Hopefully the C5 programme can go some way to changing opinions.
  10. How do you know when your tits are cured? Is it a time thing or do you need to work them?
  11. That was exactly my point. As for what Barry said, of course he said those things. But you don't know what he did say that was left on the cutting room floor. He was portrayed as a bit of a show off. You don't know if he was edited to exaggerate this and as I pointed out, it wouldn't be the first time people in these shows find themselves selectively edited and a little shocked about how they come out on TV. He was very gracious when he was shown talking about the winners at the end, so i have some doubts he was quite the character they portrayed. Made for good TV though didn't it?
  12. I came late to this and watched it on catchup. I have a little experience in this type of thing and can tell you that the way Missenden were portrayed was no accident. As has been touched upon, the production crew give you free reign to say too much, knowing that this can be edited down to make a story. Not say enough? Well a couple of careful questions may help solved that. I noticed that when Strangers were announced as winners, the camera was tight on them, not wide to capture the faces of the others. I took it from this that Barry(?) of Missenden must have been very gracious in defeat and not displayed the type of 'face' that the producers really wanted. Fair play to him - it was a shame he was portrayed as a baddie - there were a couple of quips from the presenter that didn't help this negative portrayal. As for the standard of the modelling, it was perfectly imperfect. The whole point of these types of shows is to show the bumps, bulges and soggy bottoms and in many ways its better they do. Perfect models are aspirational, but most of us will never have this skill (or time). The models shown were built quickly and with rough edges - this is the PERFECT inspiration to get more people into model trains, just like bake off has done with the millennial generation.
  13. Sorry, my apologies, i didn't read the earlier posts
  14. Was a Lima dummy (stripped of drive) with a tts chip installed not an option?
  15. A couple of things come to my mind - sometime a track pin can get hoovered up and cause a short. But my bet is that it is the connections to the motor and there is something amiss here. I don't know how much you want to get involved in this, but if you have a DC track, I'd unsolder all of the connections to the motor, then just loosely connect wires directly to the track and the to the connections on the motor. (ie, bypassing the wheels). If the motor runs ok with this, i'd guess there is a mis-connected or damaged wire between the wheels and the motor connection. If the the motor doesn't run ok, it may point to a problem with the motor itself
  16. The link in the link : https://easy-model-railroad-inventory.soft112.com I spoke with Magnet about proof of ownership as I pointed out to them that I could easily over insure my stock for malicious reasons. Their advice was that regards proof of ownership, a receipt is desirable, but in the absence of this, their claims assessors would look favourably on a photo of the item with personal details and policy details visible in the background, as stated above.
  17. Just to echo this, I checked with my insurance company and how I could prove ownership. Like others, when I did a stock take, more than I realised, under-insured but now amended. The advice they gave me on proving ownership of the model, in the absence of a receipt, was a photograph of the model with my details/insurance policy visible in the picture as well.
  18. Just me that thinks this van is a little Jack of all trades and master of none? I listened to the sounds via the engine shed and can't help but think that they would have been better focusing on one area (like a workshop) and having a lot more sounds for this site, rather than what they have done with just a handful. The station announcer seams a little 21st century too.
  19. Sorry to hear about your father. Some very wise advice shared. Thanks.
  20. Funnily enough, I did exactly the same. I had my railway insured for x, but I began to work on an inventory. In the end, the locomotives alone were 2x. So like you, it was a further call to the insurance company to boost the cover. I used the freely downloadable model railway database software to list everything and add photos
  21. Agree. Are the Hornby & Oxford coaches outstanding? Not really. Are they good enough? For many, yes. And that's the rub - for a mass manufacturer, they need to convert the masses.
