Poor Old Bruce
In post #559 pic 6, does anyone know what signalbox the train is stopped at? Is it Bordesley Junction, waiting on the curve from the Midland Camp Hill line onto the GWR line? I would put pics 1-5 on that post at Tyseley. Pic 3 being before turning and the others after. 7929 piloted the Clan to Crewe, IIRC via Snow Hill, Wellington and Market Drayton. The trip had been postponed from an earlier date BTW due to the bad weather at the start of 1963 when BR wanted everything which could turn a wheel to keep the country moving. Edit - Just noticed that I had skipped a whole page of tis thread where the answer was already given.
Bomag
They are all taken at a Bath Road open day, adjacent to Temple Meads station. From the locos present, I would say it is the 19th Oct 1968. On second thoughts maybe 1967? Yes, it is definitely 1967, because in the first photo to the left of the DMU are the two Bulleids 34013 and 34100. By the way, I can see why you may see the APT power car in the last image, but I think it is just an over-exposed Freightliner container. What livery is the DMU? It looks blue gray, which, unless they were playing arround with how to put B/G on a DMU ready for the Class 123s, put it later than 1967
Fat Controller
I'm pretty certain that there were some Cross-Country units- 119s like the photo, and 120s- that were blue and grey by 1967. What were rare were plain blue examples; in my spotting days, from 1967 onwards, I think I only saw one 120 in plain blue with small yellow ends. RRU
This one perhaps? http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/600917rv.html stovepipe Thankyou for discovering this tour on sixbellsjunction. It shows this engine was used as well I`ve been trying to work out what the station name is in the second pic and now I know it is Oldham Werneth. Now we know the route, can anyone identify any of the other locations? Peter
Leander
42469 is at Crewe Works. The Stanier Mogul of a couple of days ago could be on the North Wales Coast line. Maybe Coachman can confirm (or otherwise).
RMweb Gold 30851 Posted December 11, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 11, 2015 #9 of post 579 is Oldham Werneth as well. 50850 was at the front of the train up Werneth Incline while 52271 was at the back. Rob
RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted December 11, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 11, 2015 Now we know the route, can anyone identify any of the other locations? Peter I think 1 to 7 6 are likely to be Woolfold, listed as Woolford on 6 bells. Amazingly this station used to have an electrified line adjacent to the platform, with the rail recently removed judging by the fresh ballast. A nice little film about the last freight on the line here - Woolford was the only place with a run-round loop it seems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edrnxOCF464&feature=youtube_gdata_player

That`s another set sorted. That is an interesting film of the last train. It seems strange that they had the passengers boarding from track level at Castlecroft instead of at the station. Now here is another railtour this time in 1967. Peter

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted December 11, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 11, 2015 Carnforth for number 2 - in fact it's Carnforth No.2 box behind the engine, the train is leaving the down loop and is taking the WCML north. I suspect the third is in the old down main platform and the first is in the loop at Carnforth also.

Shadow
Possible that #4 is Penzance. Headcode 6A17 is Penzance to Paddington and 2B34 is Penzance to Plymouth. Also, Plymouth is the name on the destination board of the DMU. Actually not sure now. Been looking of pictures of Penzance and the buildings don't quite match! Yes, there seemed to be a rush to paint things blue/grey from 1966. I'm sure, although I have never seen any photographic evidence of this and am therefore relying purely on memory, that a class 114 unit was blue/grey around 1967 before going back to all blue a little later; only to receive b/g again over 15 years into the future. Rail-Online
4 & 6 Penzance, 5 & 7 are Laira, I think 1 is Laira as well. The remaining two with 806 and the class 33 are probably Bath Road although Laira could be a contender Tony

RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted December 13, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2015 2 might well be Barrow Hill, 4 is Toton. 3 might be Exeter but the gabled building and fence look wrong could be Bristol. There's a photo of D6325 fresh in Blue at Bristol with almost the same headcode, so probably there but the view is an unfamiliar one to me. 1 is quite likely to be Barry where D600 and D601 ended up. Yes indeed, same brake van. Someone has painted Active's name back in since: D600 by Hugh Llewelyn, on Flickr

I think the photographer is standing on the far side of the depot away from Temple Meads Station and looking back, the top of the Workshop building is visible above D6325 and beyond the class 47 on the right is the Main Shed, cheers
