RMweb Gold 96701 Posted April 6, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 6, 2016 From Network Rail's intranet site: Phil Hufton, managing director, England and Wales, has revealed the brand-new livery on the Infrastructure Monitoring (IM) fleet. For a number of years the trains have been painted all yellow, with little external indication as to their purpose or role on the network. Now they have eye-catching graphics that highlight what the trains are doing as they travel around the network. Andy Manning, communications and marketing specialist, National Supply Chain, was in charge of commissioning and implementing the designs. He said: "The new livery will enable our partners, our passengers and the public alike to get an insight into some of the activities happening behind the scenes to keep their railway running." Glorious NSE
Saw some shots of the 150 based unit a week or two ago, which has similar style branding.

Talltim
No need to have a discussion about a yellow panel, then? Brian. It's a different yellow to warning panel yellow
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted April 6, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 6, 2016 It's a different yellow to warning panel yellow It should be yes, but RVEL have been known to use front end yellow on the sides, when they ran out of bodyside yellow..... RMweb Gold 96701 Posted April 6, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 6, 2016 The NMT went past Hereford the other week whilst I was there and stopped outside the depot. I counted at least three different shades of yellow on the bits I could see, and I couldn't see either end.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted April 6, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 6, 2016 The NMT went past Hereford the other week whilst I was there and stopped outside the depot. I counted at least three different shades of yellow on the bits I could see, and I couldn't see either end. Three shades mostly because the vehicles have been repainted at different times and thus different weathering/fading over time and at least one NMT coach was painted in the wrong shade...... Glorious NSE
That rail grinder logo looks like someone has dumped an old tyre on the line!!! Yep, could do with a bit of text to explain that one! (Why is that wheel the wrong way round...?)
Vin
Hi all, It does look like an old tyre. What it needs is some sparks in red taken from the base of the Network Rail logo. Regards Vin

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted April 7, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 7, 2016 So is there a separate rail grinder for bullhead track? The rail head top profile would be the same though which is what they do.The 80 odd grinding wheels are all set by computer so it can grind any profile you like on the head. RMweb Gold BoD Posted April 7, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 7, 2016 So how long does it have to be around before it becomes an Old Measurement Train.
Glorious NSE
Obviously longer than 40 years...(though mostly not as a measuring train!)If they went and built a new one, what on earth would they call it though?

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted April 7, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 7, 2016 So how long does it have to be around before it becomes an Old Measurement Train. What is a "new" anyway? Is a "new" so important and complicated that you need a whole train to measure it? Cheers, Mick
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 7, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 7, 2016 What is a "new" anyway? Is a "new" so important and complicated that you need a whole train to measure it? Cheers, Mick The name also changed - at one time on the project papers it was the 'new network measurement train', then the 'new' was dropped (that actually made sense as it wasn't all new), then the 'new' reappeared and finally 'network' was dropped. I got the distinct impression that somebody (or several somebodies?) hadn't really got a clue what to call it.
Edwin_m
I guess it's so called because it keeps taking new measurements. The magnifying glass graphic on the measurement train is self-explanatory rather than trying to be realistic. So why didn't they use a picture of a file or something similar on the grinding train? A file, a grinding wheel, both rather tricky things to represent with a simple graphic. A few sparks might've done the trick.
