RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted March 18, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2017 Does anyone know if 4TC sets were ever used on railtours, footexes or excursions into the Midlands? I know that 33s and even 73s on diesel worked into Birmingham on cross country services deputising for failures but I can't recall if any 4TCs ever worked into the area. I quite fancy a Bagpipe 33 and TC combo but am reluctant to get too many Rule 1 penalty points on my modeller's licence. No need for rule 1... http://www.hondawanderer.com/33103_Brancliffe_East_Junction_2000.htm 0814 Birmingham new street to Google, 15/01/2000 Also two of them on a scheduled service train in 1979 July 7th: the 05.55(SO) Weymouth - Birmingham arrived at its destination with 33111 pushing 4-TC sets 420 & 425, returning on the 11.05 to Weymouth. http://www.derbysulzers.com/class33b.html Two of them worked at Dumfries in Scotland !!! In 1995 April 13th: 33109 & 33116 were still together, and again in Scotland. They had taken a set of coaches from Derby to Ayr. Following this they worked four 4-TC trailer coaches between Dumfries & Kilmarnock in connection with the filming of the Mission Impossible movie. wombatofludham
Excellent stuff, thanks. Particularly intrigued by the report of 33111 propelling two 4-TCs all the way to Birmingham on a summer Saturday service. Off to find a Heljan bagpipe 33... RMweb Premium ColinK Posted March 18, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 18, 2017 I'm hoping that the 4TC is a great success for Kernow and us modellers. If it is, it might encourage someone to bring out a Trans-Pennine dmu.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted March 18, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 18, 2017 You can get away with a 4TC almost anywhere on the SR plus they have reached as noted many places off Region. Brighton Model Railway club ( of which I am a member ) ran one rail tour which was a class 73 and 4TC which visited Seaford, Newhaven Marine, Littlehampton, Haywards Heath, Beeding cement works, Lavant aggregates terminal...... and of course Brighton. http://andygibbs.zenfolio.com/p982231745/h359f49aa#h359f49aa An 8TC has been used with a 33/1 on a football special from Brighton to Pokesdown http://andygibbs.zenfolio.com/p726940309/h106aace#h106aace A 3TC also reached Kemp Town too http://andygibbs.zenfolio.com/p726940309/h2baff22d#h2baff22d 4TC sets on my photo site. http://andygibbs.zenfolio.com/search.html?q=4tc

sc2016
Does anyone know how far south did the 4-TCs went? Also did the BR Research Livery 8007 version carry passengers when in the livery or was it just used for testing? Thanks, Samuel.

robertcwp
A 3TC also reached Kemp Town too http://andygibbs.zenfolio.com/p726940309/h2baff22d#h2baff22d Albeit an unusual formation with a 4 Rep brake first in the middle.
robertcwp
For those of us who have scratchbuilt or are scratch-building one of these units, trying to find definitive photos of the underframe equipment is nigh on impossible. That said, I would imagine, that as they are on the other 3 and not on the TFK, then that it's just missing off the samples, or its prototypically correct. Should also add, whilst I am building my own TC set in Blue (elsewhere on this forum), I am working on SWMBO so I can order a Blue & Grey one. It might well be correct. I seem to recall at least one carriage in a 4 Cig not having brake rodding so I would not rule out this being correct on a 4TC.

Hi wombatofludham, Tinsley Depot had an open day on 29 September 1990, to which a pair of Construction Sector 33s (33042 + 33207) pulled two 4-TC units into Sheffield from Eastleigh on 'The Sulzer Rose' railtour. I believe they were 8001 (NSE?) and 8014 (blue/grey?). I remember seeing them in Sheffield station and have a photo somewhere (of the 33s at least!!!). Put 'The Sulzer Rose' and Sheffield into a search engine - there are photos of the pair and the two units on the internet. Hope that helps you gain at least one or two Rule 1 penalty points Cheers, Ixion.

RMweb Premium Steven B Posted July 12, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 12, 2017 If anyone's modelling North Wales and wants to justify a pair of 4-TC's then here's proof they got there (in 1989 at least!): http://www.penmorfa.com/Archive/twentysix.html Happy modelling. RMweb Premium ColinK Posted July 12, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 12, 2017 Many thanks for those photos, I've got one on order, now I've the proof to run it on my North West layout. Not sure how I'll justify a 74 pulling it though!
