RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 22, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) Thought you might like that! Am glad you picked up on the East Coast part too.I was looking at a site earlier that went into V2s on the Southern. Apparently all the Bullied light Pacifics were withdrawn from service with faulty front ponies in the early fifties and several of the Gresley Prairies went south (not as bad as it sounds) to take over. They were to be found on the Bournemouth Belle of all things. Now wouldn't that make a great model? hornbyandbf3fan
It's show time! Well next weekend anyhow. A state of panic and doom has set in here because I have six days to get things ready. All I've done so far is select some stock to take and tidy the trains away from Dunster. The layout needs to go together in order to see that it still works with the fiddle yard the other side. There's no need to worry about the signals or uncoupling system due to the controls being on the viewing side. Those will need temporary plating over too. Some sorcery will be needed to conjure up some modeling time which reminds me I'll need to dig out Arther Weasleys old flying ford Anglia with Harry Potter and Ron in it. The kids love that stuff! I'll try to find 10 minutes at the end of each day to log my progress but please don't hold your breath. Squatch. More like a headless chicken this evening. Pah, amatuer. I didn't know my layout would work until the first day of Warley, one week before half the track was up and the scenery wasn't done and the night before I was making the lighting board Still got plenty of time
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 23, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 23, 2015 There is plenty of time! Here's the state of things this morning (Monday).Dunster is back upstairs in the nice cosy attic room. Goathland is back together. I need to align the tracks where they cross from the station board to the curved end. The wall there must be replaced. The electrical connections at the Abbey end need to be redone and the controls must be moved to the other side. Here's a couple of drivers eye pics. devoid of any trains.
Andrew P
That's NOT a Railway Room, that's a ruddy great WAREHOUSE compared to my little Shed mate, love the two Dogs as well, great shots from Track level, the reverse curve looks awesome.
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 23, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 23, 2015 Calling it the bunker wasn't an option but Warehouse I like! Thanks!! I can actually get Bobo and Gwen to sit and stay for photographs now, only after endless hours of training and a couple of pounds of sausages! Goathland will be along the wall where the big doors are, the mill town will be along the 2 walls behind the dogs and the long wall at the back. Queenbury will be against the wall without a window and I'm going to squeeze a model of part of Bradford Exchange in the middle. So I could do with 6 more feet. Which is possible if I build a lean-to on the end. Not Hard just costly. Must get to it or I'll never be ready for the show. Shaun.

More like 6 more bodies to help with the build, that sounds more like a Club Project than just one mans Train Set.
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 23, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 23, 2015 Yes very ambitious! It'll take a few years. More like a couple of centuries at this current pace!! That's why I've deigned it as 5 layouts strung together. Time to sell a few locos and buy some more rails and plywood huh! HAhaha
Jock67B
Shaun, I agree with Andy, I hope you're not going to knock yourself up over this. Look forward to the pics though! Kind regards, Jock.

RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 24, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 24, 2015 There is plenty of time! Never say die! After nearly 3 hours crawling about in the freezing cold warehouse floor, I realized that the current coming from my CDU is DC! Now where's my soldering iron. And a big black marker to remind me next time. To make matters worse it's snowing. Blah.
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 25, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 25, 2015 All done and tested! The offending wire was the common point motor connection on the first point in the fiddle yard so all that side were not working. Sods law came into play when testing the supply, if I'd had the test needles the other way around I'd have saved at least 2 hours. Way back when I built this layout more power was needed for the long runs of 30' so I went and brought a second hand power pack which was DC. As long as it is wired to the CDU with the correct polarity it's fine, until you decide to test it with a multi meter set to AC! Numb skull. With the layout the other way around the lighting is different so I couldn't resist a few pics. First we have my newly converted Bachmann K3/1. Still a work in progress. She's pulling the fish vans I weathered last night. Before dinner yesterday evening I sanded the waterways on the layout and gave them a fresh coat of gloss polyurethane. Many details have been repaired and stuck back on. Rails scrubbed with the peco track rubber and washed with a damp meth soaked satin cloth. The famous station in evening light. Signalman awaits the last train of the day. Back to cleaning locos.....

RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 27, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 27, 2015 Managed to squeeze the layout into the back of my pick up after much procrastinating this evening. I knew it went in because I designed it so but how? I'll get a picture in the morning. Here's those pictures I took yesterday. The freshly painted wall, more on that later. Class 24 passing the signal cabin. Over view from the road bridge. Post office. Something needs doing with that church though.

Jock67B
Shaun, You'll have to enlighten me, I can't see a lot wrong with the Church! Like Chris, I wish you well with the show, Kim regards, Jock.
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted November 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 27, 2015 Hi Shaun, what are we not seeing in the picture of the church? It is a delightful picture with cracking reflections in the water, and I am sure that I saw a fish pop up. All the best Adrian.
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 27, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 27, 2015 Thanks Guys! Very encouraging as usual! The church is still that 'orible cinnamon colour and I'm not too fond of the crazy paving stonework! I think it's going to get stripped of the ivy and soaked in warm water before scrubbing with a toothbrush. I don't know quite what to do with the stonework except cut off all the detail such as the windows and buttresses etc. and scribe new walls on a sheet of foam board ail-la Queensbury station and cut in the new details. Maybe too much work but the cinnamon has to go! same with the viaduct! But that's just a simple repaint! The wooden station building had a repaint and I've added the "life" to the other three village buildings ie: mosses. I got well into it the other night and the modeling bug has well and truly bitten. (at last). 15 locos had a good clean as well! I weathered a dozen pieces of rolling stock and must have reaffixed over a hundred fallen off details! Off to set up at the show. More when I get back Shaun.
Jock67B
Thanks Shaun, It's your model mate, and at the end of the day what pleases you will no doubt please all of us - you've never let us down yet! Thinking of you at the show, Kind regards, Jock.

RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted November 28, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 28, 2015 Sorry no images from today because I left the SD card in the computer this morning! Everything went smoothly, we had it all done in two hours. The test loco a 32 year old Hornby D49 ran well and I ended up being drilled on my knowledge of A1 Tornado. I might just dig out my A1 North British to pose as tornado on the layout. So here's a couple of older images that have been touched up.
Jock67B
Morning Shaun, Glad it went as well! Love the shot of the WD on the bridge, even though I thought them ugly locos when I 'spotted' them in the fifties! Kind regards, Jock.
