Hi Jock.

I had fun weathering that WD it's a top performer too!

The show went really well today. Goathland was very well received. I met two people who had actually been there. One chap was from England who now lives down in San Jose!

I'd like to say hello to Nathan and his dad from San Francisco. Thanks for helping with the running this morning Nathan, I trust you enjoyed the show. Nathan is very knowledgeable on LNER locomotives for a 15 year old. WOW!! His mum is English so perhaps it's in your blood Nathan!

I took along the old flip flop top to present a slide show which had some show goers confused as to what was real.

A4 Golden Eagle was a big hit as was the little J50 I did earlier this year. I kept things simple with just two trains running alternately in each direction, more than enough whilst chatting with the punters and just enough to keep the average spectator occupied.

We only had one miss-hap  all day where the scrap train was run into by A.H. Peppercorn with an express. The only other thing was that the warmth of the hall was sufficient enough to expand the rail somewhat  and I had to loosen the joining bolts between a couple of boards.

I might have something special for you courtesy of  one youngster with a small camera a bit later.

The conversation always goes down hill when someone politely or jokingly (usually both) exclaims that the trains are on the wrong side! It usually ends with me threatening to dump a whole load of coffee in a well known Massachusetts river.

And lastly a huge thank you to my friend Andy who watched over things and was an enormous help all day!

Regards Shaun.

Busy day today. Show starts at 11 and runs till 4 then I got to get it back in the truck and home to the warehouse!

First I got to walk the dogs and it's -10C BURRRR. At least I can't do the dishes because the pipe is frozen! Haha Good excuse!!

I was surprised to find there had been a fire!

Well a Z scale one at any rate!

The Z scale guys had a wonderful layout with moving cars and trucks weaving through a huge miniature forest.

The Lego kids always build an impressive layout.

My pics didn't come out due to glare. I'll do some more today.

The O narrow gauge (with peco points) was all scratch built.

Hi Shaun

Excellent that things have been running smoothly at the show. Loved the photograph of the repainted wall on the previous page (waiting for the more....) - it took me back to my last visit to Goathland and I remembered I had taken this photograph which shows what a great job you have made of the layout.

Very good Shaun, thanks for those mate, excellent.

Hi Andy. I took my camera stand today and have plenty more when I get a few minutes.

Here's a couple!

Very true to conditions here today. I saw a herd of elk just down the road this morning all hanging out in a big frosty field. Really cool!

Hello Shaun, it's Nathan. I saw your layout for the 1st time yesterday and instantly fell in love. You've re-inspired me to build my layout that's been in the works for years. And for that I'd like to say thank you.

Hi Nathan.

Welcome to the Goathland thread. I'm happy to hear from you. All my friends on here are great modelers with a collective wealth of knowledge and skill that would be hard to find anywhere else! They're all very nice people who I know will be glad to help if you need advise or guidance.

I swapped out some of the trains today, so here's a couple of pictures...

We did develop a peculiar electrical fault today which when the points were switched for the crossover to the goods shed all the station lamps went out and the train stopped. I need to investigate. I must be a short because the thermal overload kicked in.

Brilliant photograph of Goathland John. 92214 is really chucking up some smoke there!

The show ended at 4pm. My friend Andy and I had it all dismantled and loaded up in 1 hour and 10 mins. (A new record).

Showing how it all squeezes in. No joke it's like one of those Chinese puzzles.

Hi Shaun,

A superb lot of images, I'm absolutely delighted that the show went so well. Lovely to see youngsters involved as well which can only be good for the hobby. As Andy suggested, you certainly couldn't pack more into the back of the vehicle!

Kind regards,

Jock.

Thanks guys!

Believe it or not the Abbey, two boxfulls of extra stuff and all the trains were on the back seat.

The size of the layout IE: the width of the base boards was governed at the design stage by the size of my truck bed and canopy!!

I know I made Nathans day, it's how he introduced himself. Dilan seemed like he was in his element and Chris and his dad Dan hung around for hours.

Hopefully more from them later!

Here's some more images from the show.

Shaun,

Thanks for the video - the most impressive feature, I think, is how smoothly the carriages and other stock rode past the camera. Your track laying must be to a very high standard as none of the wobbles so common on most model railway videos could be seen!

Well done mate,

Kind regards,

Jock.

HI Jock. Not so much my track laying more a well constructed Ian Kirk Boplate-B! I will be documenting how I do the track when I get Queensbury going however!   Christopher's camera  wasn't much bigger than my thumb and the screen was on his wrist! Great Video, Christopher was driving BTW, he done a fantastic job, better than I with the J50 doing 70mph up that grade on the viaduct!!

-"English Trains!"

That was a brilliant video, Shaun! I'll be watching that quite a few times. Her Ladyship is upon her Early Morning Throne - 01:13 - so that makes a delightful resting place as I wait. Seeing all of your work at different angles was excellent. Only small complaint- whilst going through the village, etc; the lighting wasn't as good as it deserves. Time to start working on a pelmet, I think.

Wonderful. Thanks,

Tony.

Hi Tony!

I do see what you mean. Judging by the fact the lights in the buildings are not on I think the end part of the video was done first thing Sunday morning before I arrived. Unfortunately Goathland won't be making any more public appearances so there's no need to construct a lighting pelmet besides there wouldn't be room in the truck for it!!

Tell you what, it was totally worth modeling the signal cabin interior though!!!

Shaun,

Although I have seen lots of pictures of the layout and 'know' its size it is was not until this video that I really understood.  To think that you did all of it is quite really impressive.
