Dazzler Fan
+ Who are the Professional ModelMakers here? Please PM me. Noel
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted October 27, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2016 Why? Those who build locos, or layouts, or stock? Scratch builders? Define professional? What if people do it as a 'side job'? Do you have an minimum permissible income?! A little more context may make people a little more forthcoming. davefrk
Usually the good ones have a full order book and wouldn't be touting for work, waiting lists can be very long for these people. Dave Franks
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted October 27, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2016 Usually the good ones have a full order book and wouldn't be touting for work, waiting lists can be very long for these people. Dave Franks Maybe he's using this process to identify the bad ones - those who PM him obviously have capacity and are bad. Professional model makers, it's a trap, don't do it! RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 27, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 27, 2016 Usually the good ones have a full order book and wouldn't be touting for work, waiting lists can be very long for these people. Dave Franks There are good ones trying to start up though and get known too. The only way being to show examples of their work in response to such requests. Every one starts somewhere
Horsetan
Usually the good ones have a full order book and wouldn't be touting for work, waiting lists can be very long for these people. .......and can you afford them anyway?
Loconuts
Who would want to be a professional modeler, having done it myself it is more trouble than it is worth. OK if you have a trusted customer base who are happy with the price and model but there are too many who want something for nothing.
gismorail
If I'm retired and model all the time does that make me professional I know I would not be making money but who is in today's economic climate
Horsetan
....there are too many who want something for nothing. This applies to the RTR world too.
RMweb Premium Roger Sunderland Posted October 27, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2016 Model makers come in all shapes and sizes - locos, coaches, wagons buildings,scenery...........Give us a clue?
RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted October 27, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2016 Maybe he is from the Inland Revenue! lol I'm sure we all laughed at that comment but they do check these things from time to time. Many years ago our exhibition manager was in a small article in the local paper about the club show. A few weeks later he got a letter from the Inland Revenue asking for details of his income from the show !! Obviously it was all voluntary but they then demanded the club balance sheet and we ended up paying tax on our bank interest. This went on for a few years and I had to produce a tax return every year until they realised that the amount was so insignificant that it wasn't worth collecting. .
