Sorry I do not understand the ‘almost £100’. As the difference between the price you are paying at £210 and Hattons of £207 (now corrected) was £3. Times this by four, I make the difference £12.

If the £210 is being honoured yes I agree and Hattons have revised their price as well, if not it was almost £100 (£23 x 4)

Too many kettleistas living longer. I blame all the preservatives they put in post-war processed food. I mean, isn't SR a toothpaste?

I see you've now decided to do a Birmingham to Cambridge unit you s*d. When do you expect delivery? Whether I succumb to a second Provincial unit depends on how close it will be to the most recent estimated date of arrival of the Bachmann 90 and 158!

Our promise on delivery from the factory is XXX and the actual delivery is always later!!!!    'Chinese Time Warp System'

So I am loathed to quote actual deliveries, I would 'SUGGEST' Christmas, but don't moan please IF later or Earlier.

Bachmann Factory is moving I believe, so delays are obviously expected, I am sure its out of the UK operations control, so don't be too harsh on them.  The whole UK market is changing and all manufactures have to adapt, gone are the days when a 'Princess Elizabeth' LMS Pacific is available for 10 years.  Smaller runs of products mean higher prices.  And before you moan, think of the Tesco/Asda buying policy.  Large Orders, Bigger Discounts (For them) Sadly for the customer it means higher RRP Prices less a discount!!

IF every one sold at a 'Reasonable RRP' price without discounting ask your self.   Would the List Prices be as high as they are????

Thanks. I expected a "how long is a Chinese piece of string" type answer, I'm just wondering if I can afford a second Provincial 156 with so much nice stuff en-route. To be honest I'm not one of those who moan about extended delivery dates, model railways are not essential purchases and they will come when they come, and today's items are worth the wait in my view. As for prices - well we are where we are. If we want detail, features and the like then that isn't going to be cheap and at least you and Bachmann do support those whose interests go beyond pretty tea urns on wheels.

Fortunately if the Provincial units are possibly arriving sometime near Christmas I tend to do my Christmas shopping in August and September so that's one less budget constraint to consider!

I have!! Now enough allocated for two (assuming prices only increase from the current) units in GA white and de-branded 'ONE' in either NXEA or 2012 GA/AGA.

(Still some change for a Wessex 143 too, I have had that allocated for over 5 years - even made a little interest on it!)

Due to many requests we have added 3 new models to the next batch of models:

East Midlands Trains:  156118 (Nottingham to Skegness) and  156119 (Nottingham to Worksop) on the Robin Hood Line.

Provincial Livery:  156315 Sprinter (Cambridge to Birmingham New Street)

The East Midlands Trains feature subtle differences such as Etches Park Depot Stickers, Black and/or Blue Destination Blinds, Bicycle Stickers Etc.

Provincial Livery includes Sprinter & Super Sprinter Branding along with the cab window visible on the centre corridor door.

Some of the earlier models are nearly sold out so you have been warned.      Charlie

Any plans for a Far North Class 156... something like Inverness to Wick / Thurso ?

You could always do a “Muir of Ord” to Thurso reflecting the sprinterisation of the far north, following the bridge collapse on 7th February 1989 at Inverness.

The class 156’s were road shipped in order for Scotrail to meet their commitments to replace class 37’s whilst the bridge was replaced cutting off the Far North from Inverness.

The intentionally stranded 156’s were different in that they didn’t have fleet numbers on the cabs, but “ SuperSprinter” on their bodysides, as it wasn’t clear if the sets would need to be split / strengthened to 3 car in light of their stranded nature in event of failure and to maintain service.

I have lots of pictures from that time period, including a 142 that was sent to Inverness, and at one point 158 reliability was so poor in snow on Glasgow-Inverness services, that 158/156 combinations (1 car from each) were made, and ran round using the triangle at Inverness station to ensure the 156 was at the front, with its snow ploughs.

Next year is 30 years since that bridge over the ness collapsed, the replacement bridge opened exactly 1 year later.. where did that time go...Sprinters have now outlived Duchesses, class 40’s and will beat Black 5’s in service life

Hi

Does 156-315 Birmingham - Cambridge carry Sprinter or SuperSprinter branding please?

Descriptions say the former, artwork shows the latter.

Thanks

Phil

My understanding is that the early sets had 'Sprinter' branding then inlcuding 156443 and later the Provincial livery was changed to include 'Super Sprinter' Also some sets by 1989 seemed to have silver framed cab windows whilst some have black frames.

As I said an E-Mail Charlie I am not sure the artwork for 156418 is 100% there is evidence it left the Washwood Heath with black front cab windows but by late 89 they were silver. A number of pictures clearly show this unit running in the configuration I mention.

  • 2 months later...

I have noticed that there is now another livery been put on a Northern Rail Class 156. 156480 is in a special livery celebrating 100 years of the RAF.

Samuel.

I wonder if there might be a chance of one being done with a view to supporting the RAF Benevolent Fund?

The layout of the windows would need altering to do this livery, when they did the disabled large toilet it lost a large window and the small window was moved.
