Just stumbled back onto this thread while exploring the new site setup. Really like what you've done. Can I ask what the foam is you've used to create the Lynmouth shed & what type of paints you've used? Being able to give the impressed stonework using a pencil seems veey much easier than trying to line up moudled plastic card :)

It’s Craftfoam, listed on eBay grey styrofoam modelling foam, (the blue has been discontinued recently).

I bought large 4x2 blocks from a trade place but it’s pretty good value on eBay too now and you can buy smaller chunks.

It’s painted with emulsion tester pots from DIY stores using the first coat as a sealer. I have also used a pva and plaster mix, custard consistency, as a sealer on some bridges if I want to stain it with washes to match plaster rocks around it. There are about four colours used including a cream colour as a thin wash to do the mortar.

The roof is plastic.

I decided to make a coaling stage to hide the point motor at Lynmouth.

It’s cut from a spare scrap of foam with the middle cut out and glued back together. The stones are just drawn in as I did on the shed.

The deck is stained coffee stirrers.

More bits of stirrer to make the walls.

and the working out behind what goes where  The symbols show destination and origin and any +1’s mean there are two wagons, one for each end so to speak, so you’d swap them over load for empty etc

Paul

All looking superb. You are giving me motivation to start Blackmoor Gate. Unfortunately the Woody Bay station is a third under size when put against the drawings for Blackmoor Gate and if it was the correct size it would still require substantial modification (Blackmoor Gate building is a little different to Woody Bay) , so will have to scratch build it but that Bachmann one fits well on yours.

Just collected another coach from the sorting office this morning and it already has Greenwich and District couplers being fitted.

I cant recall if you have fitted decoders to your locos?

I look forward to seeing your modules one day.

Thanks Ian. One loco has a decoder the other three are just waiting for me to sort the wheels out and will be fitted this week or next ;)

The scenecraft building perfectly fits my condensed stations. Kevin’s Bratton Fleming is pretty much full scale but that uses the smaller L&B pattern building.

A minor op has meant heavier jobs are out for a few days due to stitches so I’ve been faffing around with details.

Signals now work off a 9v battery.

and the toilets from the Scenecraft L&B station have become the lamp and oil stores.

Looking superb Paul. You captured the wonderful atmosphere of the L&B perfectly :good_mini: I absolutely love the modular concept too.

The use of the craftfoam for the buildings is fantastic. It's not a material I have come across before but looks superb. Thanks very much for sharing.

I’ve installed Dapol SR signals on Gratton Lane powered from a 9v battery. The switches are mounted on the top of the board to make access easy from both sides as this is designed for operation in any configuration. They will be disguised with bushes etc.

The lamps have been dulled down a lot using earth colour paint, thinned with water slightly, to better represent the glow of real oil lamps. I used to do the lamps at my first signalbox, they lasted until the early 2000’s, and fusion powered lamps just didn’t look right to me ;)

Just wondered the source of the water cranes(?).

Thanks, They are the Skytrex SR cranes here

I’ve chopped a bit out of the height on two of the three. I cut about 4mm out just above the valve and pinned and glued them back together.
