RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2019 Both servos are now installed and working. I've added a 9v battery holder, wired through an on/off switch on the panel, to provide the servo power. There is something quite satisfying to throw a switch and see the points change, due to the electronics and mechanical gubbins you've put together yourself. 5 1
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) The layout has been turned around and the Circle deployed. Further testing is taking place. This has already caused a relocation of one of the uncouplers, the 25 is now able to fit once the wagons have been left. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 3, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) Meanwhile, the Inspection Saloon is circling the Circle, propelled by the 25 when it's not testing elsewhere. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 4, 2019 And with a bit of stonework on. The overhang on the left will be cut back further, but this side will be a retaining wall, rather than a rockface. 8

RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 4, 2019 Nope, neither of those. We have a planned 12months of work in my team, I'd booked next week off but we are expecting some data to arrive then, so I got leave a week early. SWMBO is off to a surprise tea party later, so once I've dropped her off and collected No.1 son from the day centre, I can crack on with the cutting.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 4, 2019 Thinking more about the cutting, a curved retaining wall would just collapse under the weight and pressure. Hmmmm.....
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 4, 2019 Can you cut it back a bit more and buttress it? Al.

That is an option Al, but the original design was for a rockface and the wall was a knee-jerk reaction to the narrowness of the space. Some rational thinking later and I'll just cut the upper surface further back.

RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 7, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 7, 2019 Finally got a bit more done. The left side of the cutting has been trimmed back, some of the stonework on the portal has been replaced and it's had a coat of primer. The two near vertical pieces of L strip are to provide a ledge to fix the rock walls to. I've also cut two landscape edge pieces of ply to form the profile for the front left and right corners. I now need to get an insulation sheet to cut to shape for terraforming.

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted November 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 8, 2019 It's amazing how something as simple as polystyrene can completely change the look of a build
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 8, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 8, 2019 It's starting to match what's in my mind's eye. Once the glue has dried I can soften the curves, plus carve the rockier bits.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 9, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 9, 2019 The inside curve of the cutting is still quite tight, so the plan is to use a curved board as the the base, with patches of embossed plasticard stonework intermingled with slightly more proud rocks, stuck on in a random, but organised, fashion. I don't want to use a whole sheet of stonework as the base as I want it to look as if the man-made parts have been added later to shore-up the rockface where needed.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 9, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 9, 2019 (edited) I've added a bit of colour and some filler. The coloured surface was then scratched (with a stiff hand brush) to give some rock strata. I can give it another waft of olive and brown sprays once the filler has set. RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 I do like the idea of using a stiff brush on the foam to get the strata, it's very effective. Al.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 10, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2019 Thanks Al. I think I've been a bit too uniform with the angles, a bit more variety might look better.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 11, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 11, 2019 I've had a go at re-aligning the rock strata.
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 11, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 11, 2019 Should there be a single fault line between the two alignments? Al
