David C
Any West Midlanders have any suggestions of where to park on the Sunday? A rail station between Snow Hill or New Street and Birmingham Airport would be ideal, but I could easily drive to Hampton in Arden or any of the others towards Coventry. Any suggestions would be appreciated. David C Carrot crunching, straw chewing Suffolk resident

I think both are free parking but you need to be early. Gutted that the Express parking I used opposite Hall 5 last year is already booked up, it helped me avoid the end-of-Saturday traffic bunfight.

David C Carrot crunching, straw chewing Suffolk resident If it be so necessary, you could park at Coleshill Parkway (from memory the car park is quite large) and then get the bus to BHX, which should drop you off at the foot of the escalators which take you to the ticket barriers at the station. RMweb Gold bourneagain Posted October 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 25, 2019 There now weekend car parking charges of £2.10 at this station introduced on 1 Sept, I don`t know how much the return bus fare to the NEC is, but in total it could work out more expensive than the per-paid £12 parking charge at the NEC, that is if you don`t have a bus pass! woodenhead
Parking at International is cheaper than the NEC itself if you don't want to Park and Ride from outside. According to the National Rail website on the day and pre-booking are both £9 per day at weekends.

Mel_H
I've just discovered that Virgin Trains offers 20% off for visitors to ANY exhibition at the NEC - or indeed event at the site - for advance booking. Would that be limited to events sold through the NEC and ticket agents? The Warley show is a private event and tickets are not sold through the usual NEC booking service or agents, so will the Virgin Trains apply? portbury
Hi folks, I am after a bit of advice if anyone might be able to help please? My girlfriend and I are planning to go to the show this year (I was last able to go in 2003) I have ME/CFS and my girlfriend is autistic, so we're both slightly limited in the situations we can handle. I struggle to walk long distances and really busy environments are challenging for my girlfriend. We had been planning to come by train on the Saturday, but the rail strike means that no longer looks sensible. Can anyone advise if there is normally a difference in how busy the show gets on the Saturday vs the Sunday? Do most folks normally drive or get the train I wonder? There's also a chance I might be able to drive, but it looks like the closer Express Parking is all sold out. Are the shuttle buses from the standard parking areas ok to rely on, or are they generally packed out and hard to get on? Thanks in advance
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) Sunday definitely quieter and you can pop into the void area to escape the crowds for a break and have a quiet sit on the floor Shuttle buses are regular and busy especially early on. I'd aim to arrive about half an hour to an hour after opening as it's all settled down from the initial rush. Plus as k the NEC stewards as they might be able to suggest quiet areas for a rest too. I would not recommend going on Saturday if you don't like crowds. Sunday is usually ok. There are a lot of people around and crowd control just before opening time but this all goes quite quickly after 10:00. There is a void area which isn't for use by the public. I would say in your circumstances it would be ok to go there for a bit of piece and quiet. Just explain your situation if anyone asks. If you have any difficulties speak to someone at the information stand just inside the hall. You could just ask for me if you run into difficulties as all those in red jackets know me.

Thanks in advance Like all shows, Sunday is quieter than Saturday. 60:40 is the usual ratio for attendance. Most people drive because, for reasons I can't fathom, many railway modellers don't like to get on trains. The shuttle buses are reliable and how busy they get depends on the crowds. They are regular though so you can always wait for the next one. There are loads of yellow-shirted Warley stewards around the place to help once you are in the hall. Hope this helps.

Thanks in advance I have seen reference this year to wider aisles and more space between layouts following previous years feedback so that will help you too. Given your situations, I would be arguing against the train - this year I am travelling via Warrington rather than my home city of Manchester simply as I can get a direct service which isn't a Cross Country service. This is due to volume of people who get on those services, especially on the return. If you can drive then you are guaranteed your own personal space within the car even if the roads might be busy. Sunday also sounds like a better day unless you have a need to join the Bachmann and Dapol sales scrums.
