Brian's 7mm Diesel Workbench, Belated up-date!

Recommended Posts

It helped having a week off work and also having wheels and motors to do the job. Also and most importantly, it's a great kit to buildsmile.gif Some kits Iv'e done you get bogged down and loose the inspiration to get on with them but this one I just could not wait to get on with it. By the way I have now got a Machima and Roxey 40-1 gearbox for it as the Portescap whine was getting on my t*tsangry.gif So I shall stick this in then when I get the worksplates on it start painting it.

I just got some cabside data panels for the 06 from Precision Labels and some for my 27/1 so I can get that varnished this weekend.

I am building a MMP B Tank that I have had for a couple of years at the moblink.gif so even I have the odd kit that takes a while to get built!

I went to take a picture of my Judith Edge 06 now it's nearly done but thought whilst there why not try and make a fuel point somewhere in Scotland. So with JLTRT 24/25/26 and 27 to hand it was time to transport back to 1976 (well about then with a 24 on shed)

Hi Brian,

You're just rubbing it in now, all those 24,25,26 & 27 looks great you should build a scottish loco shed.biggrin.gif Will you be getting a Heljan 26 when it comes out?

Your 27 has come up really well you must be well happy with it.

Cheers Peter,

Hi Peter, don't know if I will go down the Heljan 26 route yet but I may well give in to onesad.gif I have 3 JLTRT ones and would like to finish the fleet with a SSC fitted 26/0. I must admit I do run the Heljan stuff a fair bit as you know they will pull what ever you put behind them.

I wish I could build a proper depot to run and phot them on rather my little US depot photographed here but I just have not got the room for one.

I do like the 27's more than the 26's, it's those headcode boxes with domino's insmile.gif Still got a 27/2 and the NB ones to do sometime together with a 20 with token recess and sound to pair up with my IM allocated 20052 and the 33's when they are available.

Hi Brian,

Look forwards to seeing a Heljan 26 on your workbench when it comes out then.biggrin.gif A 26/0 would look good, with there Oval buffers glillles etc.

Shame you have no room for a Scottish shed layout, but I think if you keep building all these loco's you will have to move house eventually so you may have room then.wink.gif

I must admit I think the 27 is a tad better than a 26 probably because I had haulage on a few on the Dundee trains so got to hear the thrash from the front coach. The 27/2 had extra grilles didn't they always thought they looked quite good.

Looks like the JLTRT 33 will be out about the same time as the Heljan 33, it will be interesting to see how they compare.

Cheers Peter.

There wasn't many fitted with ploughs Michael and only this one with them in BR blue as far as we know D7001 They all had plough brackets from new though. And yes I know I should have removed the headboard clips on the front but I did not want to repaint the model if I didn't have to. I can live with them.

Hi Brian Pics of D7009 and D7015 have also appeared on the net with ploughs in BR blue. Also painted black, D7009 has lost its middle blade.

Superb thread Brian

  • 4 weeks later...

I have been going through my wagons recently, doing a bit of weathering and seeing if I could get rid of any as space is at a premium now so I could buy some moresmile.gif . So I bought 2 Slaters Vanwides (already have 2 so will make a nice block of 4 of these) at £30.40 each and a JLTRT Banana van at £39.95 so I could see what their vans are like. I have a picture of a Banana van as a barrier van in 1979/80 so is ok behind TOPs diesels. The Banana van is quite straight forward to build but the instructions are a not clear on where the little whitemetal brackets go on the solbars but I managed to work it out. Not a lot of work to do on the body! The axleboxes needed a bit of work to file out the guides so they run up and down in the axle guards. These kits are easy to do but one part that needs a bit of work are the buffers. The buffer shanks need drilling/cleaning out with a piller drill. I have used Slaters vac pipes on this van as I did not like the cast whitemetel ones supplied in the kit.

Acouple of pictures of the Slaters Vanwide added as well.

Hi Brian,

The van looks lovely, I do like the Slaters kits I am part way through building a BR 20t Brake Van, I haven't touched it in ages though.

It would be nice if Slaters did the van with a modern chassis, I would like a couple of VEAs.biggrin.gif

Cheers Peter.
