Actually, it seems other countries ha the same problem:

And.... actually, having seen the real things, I quite like these - they are very powerful looking and apparently are nicknamed 'Bulls' by the Polish enthusiasts:

Along with one of the Polish built copies of the EE built EU-06 'Anglik' (Englishman), i.e. the 'Polish class 83s':

Actually, this was my favourite livery for a time as all the locos like so just stood out like sore thumbs:

I guess you are right about the Campervan thing, but the Czech one looks like one of those old fashioned buses with the HUGE windows at the front:

Oh yes, and there are the bug eyed diseasals too:

Oh and then there are these, the East German designed Class 155s:

ANNYWAY, that's enough of all that mallarky, but the point is, that the Co - Bos are in good (and distinguished) company when it comes to looking plain odd or even ugly.

There are plenty of others I can think of, but that is enough for now.

Not sure if Hattons has done it from photos, but an interesting variation would be to replace the original eggshell blue that picks out various parts with an off-white colour. I don't know when the change was made but assume it would be during overhaul or when the small yellow warning panels were added in the early 1960s.. Some locos had the aluminium drivers side window pans painted over in body green too. I hadn't realized some locos got corporate blue.

. I hadn't realized some locos got corporate blue.

Just the one Coach (5701), though a couple (I think) got GFYE

A couple of years ago - when Birmingham still commanded its own Lego Store - I distinctly recall something in the piece bins that would have been a great starting point for the nose of Class 252 in TT!

Oh, why didnt you tell me. You've ruined my plans for modelling the RTC in 3mm now :rtfm:

I picked up my 3 Co-Bo's this aftertoon from Hatton's. I bought 5700, 5705 & 5708 (weathered). I have fitted 5705 with a sound chip using a project using recordings of the Australian Metro-Vicks, The body is not easy to get off and the white pipes were easily knocked off and one of the tanks so these had to be glued back on, unfortunately I didn't reaslise I got some glue on my finger and I caught two patches on the body so some slight damage to the paintwork on the roof and on one of the sides, so I think this will be a candidate for weathering!

I read somewhere that the noise of the Crossley engines had to be heard to be believed.

Definitely noisy but even worse was the amount of smoke they seemed to chuck out at times (*) - a weathered one would definitely need a special emphasis on 'overall grubbiness' from the residue of the smoke/particles in the exhaust.

Note * I saw one in the distance approaching Grange-Over-Sands from the Carnforth direction one morning and I thought at first it was a Black 5 with the Fireman just putting a few round the 'box - amazing smoke effects for a diesel.

This is the sound project in one of my Silver Fox models, because of the empty body I was able to use a bigger speaker. I will video one of my Heljan installations for comparison.

I can hardly see the screen for tears after that reminder of the much-loved WAGR X/XA/XB classes! :sorry: :sad_mini:

Cheers, Peter C.

5705 just arrived - looks good but a few bits of white pipework had come loose in packaging, easy enough to fix. Good controlled runner but top speed quite low - scale 50mph or thereabouts.

One strange thing - controller direction is reversed [some as one of my original Claytons], lights are correct for direction of travel though. Looks like body off and soldering iron out!

Mine arrived today, Royal Mail must have been on turbo mode.

Stunning model and a brilliant runner straight out of the box, only problem like Martins it went the wrong way. Easy fix though just had to the reverse the wires in the plug on the top of the PCB.

Update on this, it wasn't quite so easy as that, the lights where then wrong for the direction of travel I had the swap the pins over in the plugs from the pickups instead.

Condor Express Freight Service most likely....

Not quite sure if the parcel travelled Condor Express Freight Service but less than 24 hours after it was packed at Liverpool the green full yellow front version was delivered to the far south east corner by Royal Mail..... :sungum: . Hopefully the green small yellow panel and blue versions should arrive tomorrow......

Just managed to take a few quick pics:

Time now for an afternoon cup of tea and then get the loco run in before I attempt to take it apart and install a decoder.

Think Hattons and Royal Mail pulled the plugs out on getting the loco packed and delivered. Just hope that the loco performs just as well as Hattons and Royal Mail have done!!

These would sell the model far better than Hattons pics......I fancy one now!

Agreed - the "perfect" lighting and white background takes all the character away from the models on the Hattons site. They look very flat with poor detail on there. I was not impressed at all.

The photos above really show that there is a wealth of detail and character on the actual model. Now I am thinking about buying one.

Whoever does the Hattons photos ought to seriously reconsider their techniques.
