Yes, possibly.

My breathing has improved over the last few days. Coincidence, or maybe due to a lowering of air pollution levels?

Traffic is definitely down late afternoon, mostly mum's taxis (4x4s) picking up their little darlings, but little other traffic.

So, here's another optional item that we're doing/watching as and when.

THis is an eagle nest here in Minnesota, we watch every year. They had three eggs and two have now hatched already. For us (your mileage may vary obviously) it's very uplifting to watch.

I run it on a second screen while working and the Mrs runs it on her laptop and phone.

It's often like watching grass grow, but to see the two chicks being fed is heartwarming.

There is a video there. Doesn't seem to display right now, as other images are also not showing it seems, here's the link

I read a bit of uplifting news over on Pistonheads earlier - one of the posters on there works for Airfix and says that business is booming with self isolating folk ordering kits online, he also states that the old 1/32nd Maserati Indy  and the large scale Bentley Blower are due to be re-introduced later this year, all things being well of course.

Breaking curfew for a dog walk I chatted to a lady who looked rather glum. Her husband is a stand-up comedian whose work has vanished. A pity he can’t deliver a comedy package to your door like the enterprising pubs are delivering hot meals in our village.  (I should add we conversed 3 metres apart in a field!)

Nothing like a bit of fresh air and open space in the current crisis.  This is just over a 30 minute drive from home. Had a very pleasant picnic lunch watching the waves. Ran through a snow shower on the way home but clear blue sky when we got back. Popped into local supermarket on the way, very quiet, shelves fully stocked.1839141333_Port01s.jpg.751926daa4cc02b2e2c2d1cdc0bccd36.jpg

I just had an email from Yodel.

They are altering the way parcels are delivered due to the virus outbreak.

I believe that instead of leaving the package outside your front door, they will park the van at the end of the street and just lob it in the general direction of the house.

Report on Day 2 of SI.  Went for trundle on my turbo trainer bike in the shed.  Walked round the estate (housing that is!) with Mrs 5050. Watched Countdown having lunchtime sarnie.  Found a local milkman and arranged deliveries starting next Tuesday.  Laid some 'grass' on the layout.  Currently on here playing cards and boring you all with my exciting day!

However, on Day 1 yesterday Mrs 5050 and I played one of our regular games of Scrabble and she comprehensively beat me.  That's the second in a row - I must be losing my touch!  We do tend to play rather competitively and use the dictionary (which is not allowed in the rules) and come up with some right words at times.  The best one this week is 'gurk' from Mrs 5050.  Look it up!

Not strangled each other - yet!

We had an email from the Post Office about deliveries and they will no longer require a signature on signed for packages, whether that’s just our delivery area or not I do not know, but at least we won’t get the dreaded red/white postcard saying we were out.......while we watch the special delivery driver drive away faster than Lewis Hamilton

I don't know if it's because of the virus, but IT HASN'T RAINED FOR 3 DAYS STRAIGHT!!!

Although the lawn still goes squelch when I walk on it. Who knows, if the rain holds off for another few days I may be able to get the mower out on Sunday! :^)

Self isolation has been a no-brainer  at the Sasquatch residence (not that it will make much difference for me up here in the woods). Two reasons for our decision being that we were in Portland last week and are both not feeling 100%. This is most likely seasonal allergies which can hit hard in Oregon's forests and the fact that I'm in two high risk groups.

Mrs. S. and I agreed not to wait for Trumps government to take measures and like many Americans have taken self initiative steps as pure precaution . Half of Mrs. S's. customers cancelled so she cancelled the rest which could cause some financial burden if this problem does not resolve itself within a reasonable time frame but I've lived through worse and became wiser for it.

On the positive side I see this as a huge opportunity to get some modeling done, have drawn up a plan of action  and commandeered the dining table. First though I will take the dogs on a nice long hike up in the woods where I know I'll not meet anyone.

It's actually rather nice to have my wife home and must make sure she doesn't get bored.  Perhaps I'll leave a big box of scenic flockage and rubberized horse hair by the back door and see if she volunteers her skills.:D

Keep calm and do some modeling!

Regards to all Shaun.

I went to collect a package from our local delivery office on Monday, put the red card on the counter, fella takes my name from it, asks me to turn it over, takes the reference then asks me to put it in the bin beside me.

He's wearing disposable gloves and said they've been told not to touch anything. Fair enough I got the parcel without any bother and they're taking best steps to avoid picking anything up.

That explains today’s delivery of a set of mugs being kicked down the road and onto the drive.......

Anyone into ceramic mosaic modelling?

This is an interesting post.

The Irish happily ban St Patrick’s day ...

Yet ...

setting off driving Miss Daisy to the coast - or in our case, up to the high fells is legit self- isolation.

This is a great Get out of Gaol card for Old Farts!

What are we worried about?

I shall tootle off when the dandelions are out to site-survey my projected Early Railways model of the Earl of Carlisle’s farm-coom-railway works at Kirk-house - where they isolated the Rocket for years in an elegant neo-gothic engine house.

Over here we are in a partial lock-down so it was extremely quiet downtown, this morning.  Based on other countries you think you will not be effected, but I found it was a very strange almost esoteric feeling.   The good news is that I managed to get some Arduino code working for a friend and one that may prove useful to me last night.  I got started on the Spring Cleaning this morning getting behind all the furniture in the living room and dining room and have started to instal the second sensor for my station stop system down track 8.   Oh yes pulled on of my bracket signals where one of the counter balance arms has broken.  Tonight some more Arduino, signal work, watching videos and yes a couple of beer.

Intellectually, In some ways we may be very lucky because I think we will be able to watch a fundamental change in Society take place in real time.  I am not sure what my predictions are but they vary from a significant increase between the haves and havenots to a more community focused social Society (not socialist).  I dont want to think about the outcome of the former but I think the latter could be most interesting.

I might have managed to sign up to a home delivery site but I can't log in to make an order*.:(

I see also that Ocado have suspended their service and will only deliver previously ordered items.

So we can't get food in the supermarket (and shouldn't be going anyway:)) and can't get home deliveries.

Looks like the NHS won't have too much to do as we will have all starved to death.:o

* I've tried at least a dozen times over two hours

Oh good - so they won't be taking any money for "not enough postage" anymore then?

Well the latest casualty is my Model Engineering Evening Class on a Thursday :(

Apparently the whole college is going over to on-line learning at home.

So I've asked them to deliver the Colchester Clone Vertical Milling Machine (a.k.a a bl00dy great heavy bvgger) to my home address so I can continue my studies....

edit: I'm now waiting for the Internet to start falling over, what with all these people working from home and trying to keep themselves amused.

Yup, signed up for home delivery (with supermarket we usually go to).  That was last Sunday, first delivery slot I could get was next Sunday. OK, thought today it would be a good idea to book the next delivery.  No slots for next 3 weeks, and there were only 3 weeks ahead shown, so no go.  I did find a click and collect slot, booked that anyway, that's nearly 2 weeks time,  Have to work out how to get that nearer the time, not sure how advisable it will  be for us to collect by then, but if we can't leave the house then perhaps a friend could go and pick it up.  Or home deliveries will become more available again.

Warning, when we checked the home delivery order on-line,  some items had been removed as already "unavailable."  And it certainly wasn't a big order.
