Freight, departmentals and specials in Sussex

Recommended Posts

Advanced notice for Friday for those of us in the East

Rail Record reports 1Q77 - a rare daylight hours (the Sussex parts anyway!) test train from Tonbridge Yard to Woking CHS; Full gen - https://live.rail-record.co.uk/train.php/?c=U27506&d=2023-12-22

Obviously things can change before Friday, so don't bank on it until you see it!

Seems to be an out and back trip on all weekdays except Tuesdays according to my reliable sources, Merehead to Crawley New Yard via the Coastway West and Arun Valley and return working in the evening.

Not seen anything as yet to confirm these running along the Arun valley - so far it has all been along the Coastway and up the BML.

In other news, 153376 was out and about again yesterday. Here it is crossing the Arun flood plain in the fading light of a winter's afternoon forming the 2Q24 13:51 Eastleigh East Yard - Barnham Up Sidings via London Bridge and Brighton.

Just came out of Newhaven Lidl's with two heavy bags of shopping - saw a guy standing on the end of the Town platform with a camera, so hung around with one eye on the neighbouring bus departures board. These were the snaps snapped!

727 is the common factor, I guess. Nice to see it not hiding in the bushes! I would have been surprised to find Brighton station used as a parking zone, but apart from Newhaven aggregates sidings, I don't suppose there are many other vacant spaces, between there and Willingdon, with carriage sidings in off-peak storage use.

Quite a day. After having the rear pads and discs changed on the car yesterday, complicated by a stuck brake caliper that also needed replacing, today we had a puncture about a mile after leaving home 😵‍💫. Fitter arrived just in time, and made it to Eastbourne station just as 37418 and Caroline were pulling in. Grab shots through the fence, straightened and slightly cropped but otherwise untouched.

Last seen on the maps, the empties were passing through Earlsfield, well off route and over two hours late.  Possibly points issue on the West London Line I think.

Headed to Billingshurst station for 8:20. Quite a crowd awaiting Mayflower, but they announced it was 90 minutes late. I couldn’t even find it on Traksy/RTT until  the posts here, by which time it was at Horsham. Made it back in time with the children. Still a big crowd waiting for it!

excuse the poor quality stills taken from a video!

D1935 (47805) pushing hard on the back, presumably to help regain time. Looks like it pulled back 20 minutes.
