A visit to Worcester today gave me chance to pop into the industrial estate by Shrub Hill

I believe this was the site of the Heenan and Froude works  accessed off the Vinegar branch.

I'm not sure but the second could be part of the connection to McKenzie and Holland's works

But where was I?

Mike.

Is that in South Wales, up from Port Talbot?

I think near Pontnewydd there's somethink like that, stumbled over it a while ago on google earth whilst looking for my dads old house in South Wales...

Raybel Charters has made the local news in Sittingbourne because 'Raybel', a historic 100yr old barge has been relaunched this weekend at Lloyds Wharf.

Lloyds Wharf was once part of the Bowaters system and is yards away from the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway's main terminus.

This (quite old) aerial image shows the barge and you can see the rails still along the wharf.  Personally I think it would be great to see demonstration trains there occasionally, but I think that the alignment and a connection to the heritage line makes it impossible.

Read more about the concept design at https://raybelcharters.com/wharf/

Interestingly, just a little further east, this is all that is visible of the Faversham Creek branch. This section served a former quayside coal yard.

OSGR TR019619, or What3words: eternally. morphing. materials.

Or for Sailors (as it is a quayside) 51°19'15"N, 000° 53' 47" E (although suggest you need to be slightly further west 😂

Looks like there is the remains of an OLE training span there too.  They can turn up in all sorts of locations. There was one at the back of the Balfour Beatty premises in Kirkby, Liverpool that was only ever built for training and not connected to anything else. Balfour Beatty moved location so if it is still there it would be abandoned...

There's plenty of abandoned rail alongside NR's track - whatever happened to the scrap management initiatives ?

It's MIMS code 9089 lads ............................

There must be hundreds of miles of scrap rail....the only fault is you can't shift it without a visit from Mr PC!😃

Well, eventually!

It's located at the back of what is now the Derby Conference Centre, discovered whilst at the 2mm Scale show.

Mike.

They look a bit large for 2mm scale.😼 😼

The one near Purley is a lot neater with neatly mown grass (or it was last June) I pass it on Derby Day every year while on the train to Tattenham Corner.

Exactly. That's where the abandoned rails are.

In my post I suggested sailors would need to be slightly further West, which would put them IN the creek, rather than beside it 👍.

You might want to try moving a bit further West until you hear splashing . . . . 😁

I've looked at several maps and can't find rails at that point, they go left not right of where that building currenty is.

Was it a short lived branch?
