RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted January 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2022 Interesting. I chose to pre-order the Rapido Trains Titfield Thunderbolt range - mainly on the basis that I considered they would be finer models than those produced by the other manufacturer. ExJason
Not quite the good spirited announcement I was expecting from a company like Rapido, it's always a shame when choice is reduced by lawyers as much as I understand Rapido/StudioCanal wanting a monopoly 3

RMweb Gold Popular Post Darius43 Posted January 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 10, 2022 To me it came across as a warning to Hornby about what they may or may not be announcing to the world today - Titfield-wise. I like Hornby’s models but their business practices of late are somewhat questionable in my opinion. Cheers Darius 3

Like ndg910, I heard it as a confirmation of the project continuing, and that both Rapido and Studio Canal will be investigating whether Hornby have broken any copyright laws. RMweb Gold 97406 Posted January 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2022 I seem to recall Hornby getting all mardy about the Dapol/Rails Terrier not all that long ago. Still, with availability of model railway items being quite fleeting these days, I think there will be room for both and I wish all success to Rapido. 2
GWR-fan
Could Hornby not simply manufacture "Lion" with no published reference to Titfield? I had assumed that "Lion" was simply an extension of the recently released "Rocket" and era 1 coaches and rolling stock. 2
Zunnan
Certain people should have a look at what happens when anyone rebuilds an old Mustang and then even refers to it as Eleanor. The IP holder generally speaking when it is movie related can get rather upset to say the least, and said offending vehicle gets rapidly reposessed. Just have a look at a recent incident involving B is for Build. 1 2 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post Kaput Posted January 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 10, 2022 Kinda hope Rapido and Studiocanal's lawyers take Hornby to the cleaners over this one. All they had to do if they really needed to continue with their version is remove any mention of the film from it but noooo, they actually doubled down and made a branding around it. 9
RMweb Gold Bucoops Posted January 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) Wow, just wow. Best of luck to SC and Rapido. Popular Post Brocp
Not a fan of bullies like Hornby have become, they've played with fire before and this time they will get burnt. 2 18
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted January 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 10, 2022 Top notch video there Rapido/Andy and very cleverly put together. It really is a shame that Hornby's marketing people can't come up with more ideas of their own instead of copying others - not teh sort of approach one would expect from one of Britain's larger model railway commissioners but alas nothing new after their nonsense with the Terrier. 11 46 1 2

The smart move would've been to launch the "Movie range" with the Lady with the Lamp, or issue Lion seperately and call it a day. Doing this inspired by, and using the names of Thunderbolt, Peirce and Crump and Mallingford are all hilariously copyrighted phrases related to the film. Like beyond open and shut, a judge would look at this, laugh and award money to Rapido and Studio Canal+. Same as the liveries of Dan's coach and the bus are IP related too, if I remember rightly. Outright malicious because they wanted the rights only to find they'd already been sold to Rapido. Edited January 10, 2022 by Din 2 10
JSpencer
What clinched it for me was DCC sound.... and I can buy the loco lion without the other items that I already have.

RMweb Gold Clearwater Posted January 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2022 Great video. I’ve dipped in and out of the Hornby launch video. I did note a) a direct tie in with Studio Canal on the Railway Children and b) a comment in the start of the railroad section about manufacturers who put in lots and lots of detail. To be fair, they have the jump on Rapido on that score, because they already have the OOC Bedford OB in their ranges.
