Issue 292 is now in stock at the Titfield Thunderbolt bookshop

The retro Ruxley article is very nice, shows just how very good some modelling was sixty odd years ago....

Iain Rice is not remembered in this issue, copy dates etc, but the next issue will I believe have an extended coverage of him.

Picked mine up from my usual small newsagents today.  It is reserved for comfortable perusal with tea'n'biscuits on Sunday afternoon.

Looking at the weather forecast (cold, wet and windy), I might put the central heating on too..

Certainly one for those 'fictitious liveries' we tend to see these days. Only requires a set of etched plates. Need to get it out by next May though.

Pretty sure that 247 Developments would do them if someone asked.

They already do 6030 but as 6030 King Frank I

Nice to see an 00 gauge layout featured!! I remember the old MRC shows....very inspirational.  Saw Bembridge P4 at my first show...must have been 1972/3??

Also interesting that there is only one EM and one P4 layout at the Warley show!!  Too far to go and too expensive for me.

Mine came last week but is often later than when it appears in the shops. There doesn't seem to be any consistency about when sub copies get despatched.

Presumably EM and P4 isn't mainstream enough for Warley.

There is very little representation by the "specialist" traders either, e.g. those that attend the  ExpoEMs, S4ums, GOG events, etc.

If all goes to plan, there will be a large (40' * 16') EM Gauge layout there next year...

I seem to remember London Road, Birmingham Moor Street, Blackgill & Croft Depot being there as part of the S4 40th shindig prior to the world going mad with lockdowns and show cancellations.

Maybe the "ground rent" and NEC accommodation costs is just way to high for the smaller specialist traders  (especially the gauge centric traders) to make it worth their while. I'm sure they'll have done their sums and use the most cost effective means as possible to reach their target audience.

Yes, they were at Warley, in the "P4 alley". The layouts were invited by the S4 Society as part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Society. That year was the exception, rather than the rule.

The issue for the specialist suppliers that I know, who no longer go to the NEC show, is that it not just the hassle and cost of attending. It is also the lack of customers for their products. It isn't about being gauge centric, but the lack of model makers as opposed to model buyers who visit the Warley show.

I have exhibited at Warley with several EM Gauge layouts over the years, either my own or helping other people.

Having discussed the show with a few traders, it is very much the case that the costs and the amount of work involved make them think long and hard.

If you are there by yourself with a small stand, you don't get a break as there is a constant stream of customers jostling for your attention and often getting grumpy if they have to wait too long to be served.

One trader told me that it costs him as much to attend Warley as it does to attend 8 or 9 smaller shows and although the sales there are very good, he can make more profit at one the smaller shows with lower sales but much lower stand rentals and with much less hassle and work.
