Another variation, probably not that often modelled - 50 038 at Padd in October '76, photo by Graham Wareham...

Pretty much how most of mine will look.

50050/D400 (even though not announced as yet), is high up on my list. Either in Large Logo or as she was at the end of the Class 50's in BR ownership. Looks like I may have to part with my 16 Hornby Vacs, and replace with these beauties!!

I’d love to see it done as it is now, so I can run it with my 50017 when it arrives.

This standard 1970s livery, first seen on 50036 in October 1973, has never been offered RTR, in 4mm at least - not even by Lima....!

You say standard but they probably weren’t like that for long. 5 years max I’d say.

Quite so - once naming began in 1978 (5 years beyond 50036 👍) the BR logo was moved to the secondman's cabside (except 50020/46 on which it stayed where it was, adjacent to the nameplate). 50017 was named still with 4 logos and I suspect 50034 and maybe one of two others which retained the original livery into 1978 also skipped this 'standard' scheme. 50036 was therefore "max", the rest less than 5 years, many way less.......but some us remember it well, including 50016 with logo too high up the bodyside and another with it too low down (forgotten which one - 50033?)

Just wondering did anyone attending Chester on Friday or Saturday have a look at the 50, and what did you think?

A cracking shot of D405 at Crewe in 1968, sans jumpers, by Neil Pulling...

Excellent photo.

As stated without jumpers and also with window deflectors, as 'that other company' have applied to one of the 2 I have.

Not only saw it, I drove it on Friday. Not as fast as the pendolino that I had a go with as well. It is difficult to assess how it looks compared to a real one because of the colours of it. It is certainly smooth and powerful.

Lots of great stuff going on here.

I'm not sold on the removable roof idea though especially with the ease of getting Accurascale bodies off. (I'm assuming the middle blue bit is removable as its not sitting right)

End of the day I only change decoders when first bought or they go bang so hopefully not often at all. By being removable a heavier seem is introduced and then you're relying on a perfect fit for each loco. Something I've seen that's not achievable with the 37, and the 66 looks like it's going to have the same issues.

My 37’s roof looks fine with the removable section….though as you say, you’ll only be taking the roof off occasionally.  I do think there is less chance of breaking something by having the socket easily accessible..

No removable roofs to fit drivers though ;)

Question for @Accurascale Fran @McC

I have the DCC ready variant 50007 on order, already paid for. In the future, if I wanted to install a sound chip, would I need to buy a speaker separately or are there normal speakers already pre fitted please?

All DCC ready models have stay alive and sugar cube/ipad style speaker onboard as standard. The full sound spec adds the loksound 5 chip and accurathrash bass speaker. Both are easy ‘plug in’ installs for dcc ready models. Hth.

I saw the 50 at Chester on Saturday, it looks like it has the same superb attention to detail to which we are now accustomed with Accurascale. I later spoke to Fran about it, regarding collectors like myself having a detailed buffer beam at one end when supplied. A really positive and wide ranging conversation and typical of the depths the company go to in listening to their customers like no other. Wonderful Class 89 samples as well. Looking forward to 50017 (and maybe more)!

I’d love to see Invincible in large logo. First 50 I saw. Broke my heart when she was damaged at the end of her life.

I thinks it’s great that accurascale make a number of versions of each model and can’t wait to see what’s announced next!

025 was the first 50 I ever drove when I arrived at Old Oak, forty years ago yesterday actually, seems like five minutes ago though! I drove it off the ‘table and dumped it on the coal stage road, then walked back to the ‘table to take 038 round to the Factory. The following day 038 was released and my driver and I took it on a test train of very dirty Mk1s to Taunton and back, out via Bristol, returning via the Berks & Hants. A proper day out and a nice memory.

Quite a few of my mates at work who aren’t modellers have shown a lot of interest in this new Accurascale 50, which bodes well I’d say.
