RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 27, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 27, 2019 (edited) I'm feeling a bit disorientated just now, as I've been looking out photos and plans of the loft layout for Gordon of Eastwood Town, who now owns most of the buildings. Putting myself back into PN mode, rather than imaginary Peterborough, I find that something noteworthy happened next in the sequence. The Southbound Elizabethan. Even the spotters can work out that if the Scottish engine went North earlier, it will be the Top Shed engine on the southbound, but they will have hoped, as we always did, that it may have failed at Haymarket and been replaced by William Whitelaw or Kingfisher. That did happen occasionally, but never when I was watching, and not today either. Coming North is an ECS working, bound for Doncaster, but first the unusually grubby KX V2 will have quite a long pause at Platform 6. 'tis funny how some pictures just cry out to be shown in monochrome. Edited January 31, 2019 by Andy Y Image edit
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 28, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2019 (edited) Our man at the south end hears the chime of the A4 whistle, and being a knowledgeable chap also realises that the A4 is 60013. From that he can go on to infer that the Elizabethan is approaching, and he wants to get a shot as it passes under the roof. The stock of the Grimsby is in the way though, so he steps sideways to get a better view. After all, there can't be anything approaching on the Down main can there? That's his reasoning anyway. Even so, he wants to get back where he should be before authority notices, so he takes a hasty shot. Instinct tells him he may have pressed the shutter a fraction too early, so he has another go. Things are now getting a bit too close for comfort, so he retreats to where his permit allows him to be. Its a good job that the pilot wasn't attaching a van to the back of the Grimsby though. Are you inferring that at some stage it actually had one? Seriously, adopting Captain Mainwaring voice.... "Glad you spotted that, I wondered if anyone would. Got to keep you on your toes, you know."

Good morning Gilbert Your second photo really is a fabulous photo under the Station roof of A4 60013 on the Elizabethan. If I can make just one small comment if You don’t mind? If you can change the Springside lamps. Keep the photos coming very inspirational. Regards David

It helps me actually, as today's running session and photos were stymied by a long AGM post mortem, so images are nearly running out.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted January 28, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2019 Here we go then. The last image of goings on at PN for a short time. Actually, this is more of a going off shot. We'll meet again in a day or two, and who knows, we might even employ the free time to get on with something. There is no flying pig emoji, or whatever they are now called.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 1, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 1, 2019 Oh Lord, more new bits for me to learn. Let's see how I get on. We have a Newcastle relief arriving on its way North. KX A1 Curlew has the job. I got that right first time.

A picture is worth a thousand words ! The captions are the icing on the cake, but the pictures pretty much speak for themselves. So atmospheric. 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 1, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 1, 2019 For the time being, I'll do the words first, and then all the pictures. So, we are still with the 1.45 Newcastle relief, and Curlew emerging from beneath the bridge. This is presented in muddy black and white, mainly to disguise the fact that it isn't quite sharp. I don't know why that should be. Everything else in this session is. Never mind. Photos of the formation follow, as once again it has subtle differences from what we've seen before.

RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted February 1, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 1, 2019 I think Curlew is my favourite A1 at the moment, because curlews (actually Eastern Curlews out here) are my favourite bird and if that name is on a pacific, well it has to be just about perfect doesn’t it? Plus I have a blue one (pacific, not bird...) so that seals it! So good to see your pics again Gilbert! cheers Tony

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 2, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 2, 2019 Trains loaded to more than eleven cars on the Down main were given a shove by one of the pilots to help them on their way. The Newcastle relief has twelve on, so the south pilot is buffering up ready for departure time. Meanwhile the other pilot is propelling the stock for the next shuttle down to East station into the bay. I still can't see how to caption these separately, though I have found the preview icon. I also can't figure out why the second image loaded appears above the first one. Anyway, I'm sure you can sort out which is which. 26 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted February 2, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 2, 2019 Today I was sensible for once, and instead of going and getting cold while watching golf balls ping about on frozen ground, I played with the trains instead. Thus we now have quite a lot of photos in store. Tonight the pilots get the starring role again. Unusually we get both in shot at the same time, after which the N5 performs its banking duty. Not very onerous though, as it is only required to push as far as the end of the platform. 29

jwealleans
Has the fireman of that N5 got ideas a bit above his station? Express lamps for a banker seems a bit excessive. Edited February 3, 2019 by jwealleans
