We'll follow this up. That's not how it is supposed to work.

I too ordered the Class 08 shunter, but only a week or so ago. I was told that they didn't have it actually in stock and that they had to get it - whatever that means. But unless they have lost my order, although I haven't received it yet at least my credit card hasn't been debited. Hopefully it will be sorted soon.

I have been assured that it IS in stock now, although initially some confusion arose because a very small quantity were delivered first, a week or two before the main stock arrived. This happened with the DRS Class 20, too, and I understand it is also the reason why Harburn is able to display a ScotRail 150 although the main stock has not yet arrived.

Harburn told me they had a delivery of SEVEN from Bachmann. I understand the bulk delivery has not yet arrived. This business of delivering seven in advance of the main delivery is what caused confusion with the 08s, DRS 20s etc. A delivery of sorts had been made so technically they were shown as 'in stock' but in fact they weren't , except for 7. There are times I could tear my hair out - but I don't have much left!

How many people have their DRS20's? I had a slight hitch with mine as the credit card details had changed, but it's still not appeared. Should I be worried or is this a case of insufficient stock in country to service their orders at this time? (My card's not been charged as of the last bill in December)

I understand that the full stock is in and has been in for a while. I suggest you contact the MR shop as there does seem to have been some inconsistent treatment of advance orders.

Just seen this topic! I had my credit card bill a week ago and noticed the debit of £64.17 on 15 December so rang the MR Office last Thursday. They were helpful and checked and told me my Class 20 was despatched on 13 December but it looked like it had gone missing. They said they would arrange for a replacement to be sent out but as of now I still have not received it - looks like another phone call tomorrow!

Im flabergasted that these locos are being despatched and not even sent recorded delivery!

Ben has asked me to say that we've been extremely disappointed by the service that has been given to our customers and that changes are being made.

Interesting that magazine Editors now have to be Fulfillment specialists.........................

Good luck, Pete.

Always have been! Most of the goods and services operated by Model Rail are a direct result of initiatives by the Editorial team. Certainly, the whole business of Model Rail limited editions, DVD programmes and the Model Rail Live event are all a direct result of ideas and proposals put forward by the editorial team. If you have the idea, then you're the best person to put it into practice. That has always been true on Model Rail although we do have huge amounts of support from specialist departments on the events side. However, our limited edition models are a pretty much unique operation among the magazines based here, hence the fact that we have to use other organisations to do the fulfillment.

Good News! My Class 20 has just been delivered - many thanks to all at the Model Rail office for sorting things out and getting it to me.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got around to opening my 2 by DRS 20s this morning for chipping....

Problem was.....one was bright yellow & looked rather like a 37......

Yep, someone has mispicked ..... It will be going back

Still, at least the 20 was easy to "chip" in comparison to that bloomin' 70.....

Appologies if mentioned elsewhere in this thread but there must be huge demand for a rebuilt 20/3 but has never been released. Has anyone (inc Model Rail) considered doing a pair? Demand should only increase since the flask wagon will go mainstream this summer with the Bachmann release? I guess there will be a fairly costly retool fee with this though given the number of detail differences/lights etc.

I sold a Lima pair recently (a very non pro mod) for around £160+, thats evidence of demand.

There's a very good conversion article in the current Model Rail. I think it is unlikely that we would do a re-tool. The amount of alteration is considerable, requiring probably a complete new body tool. I doubt there's enough livery variations to sell the kind of numbers that would be needed to pay for the tooling.

OK, thanks for the feedback Chris.

PS Ive actually just started a Bachmann 20/3 conversion myself so will be reading the MR feature.

Whilst i can understand the hesitation regarding retooling, there are a number of liveries: DRS Blue with grey roof, DRS blue with black roof, as well as 2 different large bodyside logos, not to mention different, numbers, named and weathered variants, giving a good potential financial reward. - They also often ran in pairs!

Sorry, I should have said 'different OPERATORS' liveries'. To recoup a tooling cost over , say, 3,000 models (which would make them expensive anyway) they would need to appeal to more than just DRS fans/modellers.

I would like a DRS 20/3 as well but I think the one's for this job is rail exclusive.
