Well if time permits some of the ballasting from earlier will actually happen today. Stephen That unit looks great, especially with your weathering and the surrounding scenery. As you say, it's amazing how far we have come in 10 years - it would be hard to believe this was N if it appeared in a mag back in the 90s. I find doing it over small segments and spacing it over the course of the day makes it enjoyable. Once the ballast was down static grass was added using my method of making it off scene. This seems to have worked well in places here as there are spots that are definitely ground level/ dirt and others that are mounds of grass. Also you may notice that the track next to the station isn't ballasted, from the front you don't see it so its not done. Notice track that isn't ballasted. After work was complete I was lucky enough to catch 156440 slowing to stop in the station. I am really pleased with how tall the static grass is in front of the wall. The trackside gubbins and vegetation have really made the scene as well as the ballasting of course. One Little question - I notice you've not anted the check rails on the tail ends of your points. Would they blend in better if they were painted like your track or will this affect operation in some way?? Only asking a I will arrive at ths stage on my layout in the not-to-distant future. Gloucester Road Posted April 6, 2013 Author Share Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) While off flying this week a package from PH Designs arrived, two 2mm Mobile Depot Inspection Platform. Nice simple instructions include in the email and after out an hour of folding and glueing we went from this To this Some grey paint and straightening out of rails and then #2 can be done. Also received some money for my birthday so I sent my Class 60 ,my Virgin Voyager and class 156 off to be professionally weathered. So while they are off some NSE stock has been pulled into service. I'll try and stich some pictures together for you. There is no fiddle yard; the hand from above is used to move stock on and off from the display cabinet and between the levels. In other news; the slow build of the station continues. The internal and external walls of the main hall and tower are together. Parapets, corner, roofs and other details to go. Stephen. My response to this kit was to replace the cupola with a bit of cut down slate roof which I thought better fitted my townscape than the cupola. That of course doesn't help build the cupola. Pobda I really considered making other roof arrangements. Then I decided that the kit wasn‘t getting the best of me. The weather cleared in NH and the ground soft enough that I turned and prepped the veg garden and then headed back to fight with the cupola. Apparently working in the dirt did me some good as fourth time lucky. Here is said cupola A " vintage" photo for a bit of fun. Regards Scott I actually sent them back to TMC in Yorkshire for the treatment, they have done an excellent job. The station is really great kit, just a long slow build. Just that little coating of every day grime on the DMU breaks up the mono-colour of the chassis etc and makes it look that bit more realistic. Might have just tempted me to get my steam locos done. Have been 'playing' trains when i can steal a few minutes though. Afterall isnt that why we do this to run trains. Gloucester Road Posted June 20, 2013 Author Share Posted June 20, 2013 Had an hour or so to my self this morning so I deceided to weather another of my YGH wagons. Some time ago I had weathered one of the four i have and have now another of them, two to go. I used both an artist acrilic burnt umber and tamiya weather powders. Powders were used overall to give that dirty look, once this was on I then took a cocktail stick with a little umber on it and added spots of rust dabbed on. This was then pulled down with a brush and the stick and when dry blended with more powders. Think it has come out pretty good.
