Morning all

Dave - I can only imagine how it felt to hold the service in the church where you both had regularly worshipped, and nowhere else would have come close, I'm sure. There are still tough times ahead, and I hope your faith can help sustain you.

Bill - the worst sort of discovery. But we know you do have a busy life, much of it in the interests of others.

Mick's pics are splendid - some ERs from North of Watford do seem to specialise in fine views. I have walked up Pen y Ghent (twice) and Ingleborough, but not Whernside.

Sherry is off to Crewe today, for a weekend with her daughters and their bambini. Letting the train take the strain, we hope!

More temperate weather for the next few days, so life will be a bit more productive.

Hope your week winds up on a high note.

`Morning awl! :mosking:

We knows all about awls here on lake Coeur d'Alene - translates to "Heart of the awl" (archaic French).

Nobody is very sure of the origin, but as there were a lot of "sharp" fur traders here at one time, my guess is that the true meaning is "the place where all the chancers hang out".

Thoughts with Bill and Dave - what a beautiful church which must have so many good memories for you to treasure, Dave.

On more mundane matters: I'm pleased to find I can catch a train from Torquay at 10.13 and, with one change at Stafford (where I have met Ian at times in days of yore!), I can be in Crewe by 14.31! That's the plan, anyway ..... !

Now everyone knows what happens to you if you put any model railway photos on here.. A meeting with the awl.....:-)

Have a good day everyone. Missing some ERs at the moment, hope they are OK.

Ballasting beckons.......

`Morning awl! :mosking:

I am glad I didn't get the point of that post!

Morning Debs and everyone

Yesterdays forecast drizzle turned out to be less patchy and somewhat heavier than drizzle. The upside is no watering of the garden was needed. As Marion has cleared and re-planted the front garden the plants have no establish enough roots to cope with dry conditions yet.

I managed to cut some rafters before the rain came and hope to get them finished today.

Duncan you do seem to be feeling below par quite a lot. Is there an underlying cause?

Peanuts welcome to our litle bit of the world. Redundancy can be a bit of a shock.

Make the best you can of today.

Don

Mawnin' awl. Thinking of Dave and Bill this morning in particular. Hard to say anything else that would be meaningful, I guess…

None of the predicted t-storms materialised yesterday, so it continues to be fairly warm. Yay. Shift won't start before 2.31 pm, so I'll be lazing out a bit until then.

Enjoy what you'll be up to today, folks…

Morning all from a village that is bright despite being north of Ikea.

Dave, how lovely that church looks and I'm glad that the day went well.

Mick, thanks for those photos they brought back so many memories. We lived in Clapham for 8 months in 1958 and those lanes were where we walked. I know the tunnels well. The views of Ingleborough and Wharfe are also very familiar. After Clapham we moved to Giggleswick and the road we lived on lead onto the fells and eventually to Feizor. The view of Penyghent will always be poignant for me. My mother died In Barrow in Furness and on my way home afterwards I saw that view and diverted from the A65 up through Wharfe and ended up climbing Penyghent in the dark. Do you still hear the thumps of the self acting hydraulic pumps as you go up Long Lane.

Anyway here life goes on, I got Tony's funeral address finished last night so that's one major job done. I've got a few things to today and might even manage some modelling but I will be very very afraid of the AWL.

Regards to all.

Jamie

Nomodelling comments this morning!

Spent part of the morning trying to get my other halfs phone to work with no luck. So SIM card and SD card in her old Galaxy S2 but it's networked locked and she has changed network.

So she needs to take the phone in to mobile repair shop to get it unlocked as I haven't found a decent free way online to do it..

Wet here as we approach LBG a few minutes late

If you have the sense to choose the custom install rather than the Microsoft recommended settings you can turn off a lot of data collecting. Whether I have turned it all off is hard to say.

Don

No, you haven't turned it all off. You can't, which is exactly what the article is about. Finally somebody seems to be trying to do something about Microsoft's data slurping. Pity it's taken so long to get the ball rolling and that any changes will probably only apply in France (or eventually Europe). Pity our government have no interest in our personal security.

Cooler morning here, the internet seems to be back to normal (at the moment anyway). Listening to F1 and test match are planned today, unless of course the management has alternate plans.

Have a good one.

So, as someone who is less than clever about all this stuff, what exactly is at risk from Microsoft harvesting my lifestyle? Are my card details now held there? What else do I care about? Sure, I get targeted advertising after looking at commercial sites, but it's no worse than untargeted ads, after all.

Please tell me the risks.

If I recall correctly it is precariously close to the line of HS2 and has among other notable exhibits an Egyptian steam rail motor, which I suspect is not in working order.

Chris,

It's probably wrapped in bandages, with it's innards ripped out and piled up alongside it in a container

Edit: Ohh  first on the footplate of 5055 Earl of Eldon..............................Wasn't that something to do with Lord of the Rings?

Morning, and it's a wet one on Fraggle Rock.

Dave, I hope things went well, and don't forget to look after yourself in these next few weeks - from my experience it all kicks in about now.  Thinking of you.  Bill too - it feels so awful when you lose a friend suddenly, I felt almost cheated when Gary was killed, one day he was there....my best mate gone without saying goodbye.

A couple of visitors due today, friends that come from darkest Barnsley each year.  Once it stops raining we'll get the garden railway running, Nick always brings something very clever he has made to impress me!

Morning all from red dragon land.

Some of you may have experienced multiple ratings - sorry about that.  Cursor 'missing' the intended one the first time round.

Cloudy out back, sunny out front.  Think I'll choose the south door, today!. :mosking:

Youngest over this afternoon for the weekend - she'll do her thing while we do ours!

This arrangement seems to work quite well.

Mick, when you mentioned Clapham I immediately thought, 'my you're in for a long ride', until I read the rest of it, the Junction being the first thing that came to mind.   :locomotive:

I enjoyed the photos and the account.  Well done, that man!

I think after that we should all take it easy, today!  :jester:

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Commiserations to Peanuts on being made redundant, it can't be easy for anyone to find a new job nowadays, I'm just thankful that I have retired. A bit overcast today and the odd shower predicted so the big question today is shoes or sandles? Have a good POETS day all (or should that be awl), be back later.

Morning all,

Typical of Debs to come straight to the point - and it's already frightening some around here I've noticed  :jester:   In view of your comments about double clicks Polly I duly gave you two 'Likes'.

Main thoughts with Dave and Bill.

Have a good day one and all and may the POETS be with those of you who are paying for our pensions.

Its sunny in sunny Teignmouth today with plenty of clouds about.

Not much sleep overnight, due to the staples exacting pain. I just hope the wait until Monday is worth it. Its hard to find a comfortable position to sit, so I find myself pretty restless. Also regulating a temperature is hard.

ESA wrote to me prior to hospitalisation and said we cannot pay you ESA. Now I find 2 payments in my account. WTFlip?

Hope you get everything sorted out regarding Is matters Dave. It must be a hard time to have lots of paperwork etc to do.
