RMweb Premium TheQ Posted June 29, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 29, 2019 Mooring Awl, inner Temple Hare, 4.5 hours sleep whereupon I woke with a strange dream, a headache and neck pain. A wander down stairs and some pink pills led to another 1.5 hours of sleep until woken by a noise of impatient huffing and the stare of Ben the Border Collie. We've been out on patrol, clear sunny, dry except for a heavy dew. No sign of warmth yet.. Plans for today, collect motor scooter, assemble some steel shelves, which arrived for the tin shed yesterday. Then get the hedge trimmer and garden shears out to attack a line of berberis purpura, that has been invaded by brambles.. But first.. Time for a Muggacoffee..
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted June 29, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 29, 2019 Morning all from down here. It was actually rather cool for much of yesterday, only 20 degree while we sat outside a cafe eating moules et frites. However a good day was had. We went to a village called Fournas near Rochefort and after lunch wandered round fort Vaubain. This was interesting and looks out over the bay towards Fort Boyard of TV fame. There were some artists shops in the old barracks which we enjoyed. No modelling tokens were wasted by Beth however. This is more than I can say for what happens when we passed the baby aisle in the supermarket. New Grandma can't resist the offerrings. When we got home it had warmed up so a pleasant hour was spent in the pool before a walk round the village. This turned into the usual alcoholic excursion as friends invited us in. When we eventually got home we sat out watching the stars, and owls and sipping some nice 40 yr old Cognac. This morning I am going to mix 3 bags of levelling compound and level the floor in the spare bedroom. Not a lot else to report. Commiserations to Mike and family re the demise of his feline overseer. Regards to all. Jamie
Popular Post AndyID
Not too warm here at the moment but plenty of sunshine, although I'm sure that will change soon enough. It's 13C at 11:00 pm. I too am a victim of territorial annexation. My former cosy railway room in the garage under the house has been invaded and transformed into an art studio. I am now exiled to the shed (under the blue tin roof.) However, I have to admit the studio is producing some pretty good stuff. Here's the latest (the photo doesn't quite capture it).
RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted June 29, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 29, 2019 (edited) Good morning all, Sunshine, blue sky and it's already very warm here and temperatures up to at least 30°C are promised. Nobody has offered dynamite but I've found my sledge hammer. Whether I use it or not depends on how hot and bad tempered I get today. Have a good one, Paul Labiche. The Hertfordshire mist of 5:30 has been replaced by sun, or was that just a misty-eyed KZ at that time of the morning? Emergency grandkid sitting last evening almost got in the way of porky-prep but I just managed it before I turned into a pumpkin, and man, the shoulder looks good enough to eat and is falling off the bones. Off to watch the madness that is our last village’s soapbox derby and hope all competitors get down the hill without any significant harm to them or the watching public and then another session of grandchild sitting overnight. Cricket and F1 quali catching up will have to wait but, as I picked up my case of The Guv’nor yesterday, I may treat myself to a glass of that later whilst watching same! Be calm, be good and be careful all.

Purr-fect! This followed getting my claws into the task of booking a holiday for which, thankfully, there is enough in the kitty. I had better paws at this point. RIP Mike’s cat.... NURSE! Peter We buried one of the pet rats after she had been to the vets to be euthanised. She had been very unwell. Her sister had been been caring, dragging her to the toilet spot in their cage and cleaning and feeding her. However we and the vet decided there was no hope. When we said we would like to bury her at home our vet said it had to be deep and with bricks or slabs. Apparently the amount of anaesthetic to put a rat down could have done for a fox. In big animals the medication can go into a vein and less is needed. For small animals veins are too small and more is needed into the body.
Popular Post Simon G
Morning all, a later start than usual, possibly as yesterday involved a very pleasant trip to the Prince of Wales pub at Foxfield, which I know has been frequented by other ERs. The pasties and beer were excellent as usual. The sale of the pub to its new owners is with the solicitors at present, but may take some time, so we might manage another trip before the current owners depart. There were 9 of us, mostly former work colleagues from the 1980s. I did did make a start on some gardening this morning, but got rained off, as a brief but sharp shower passed over. It has now stopped, so I will return outside shortly. We are forecast some showers today, and I hope they will arrive later on as the garden really needs some water.

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted June 29, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 29, 2019 Good morning everyone It’s not quite as sunny as yesterday, but it is sunny. My first task this morning was to clean off the blades of the ceiling fan in the bedroom, as we might need it later. Once I’ve finished muggertea No2 I’m off to do some dead heading in the back garden. After that I’m going to cut the last couple of bits for the under floor storage area. Hopefully after dinner I’ll get a bit of time in the workshop. Enjoy the day, back later
Popular Post JohnDMJ
Shopping shopped; brunch brunched. Tonsorial activities hoped for but postponed so a DIY in this area later. Now back in the cold box I call home. Happy heatwave, folks! Whilst I do not generally express sentiments to events hereon, I do join ChrisF in his wishes for the Stationmaster's Simba and hope that the loss was neither cat-astrophic nor cat-aclysmic. You state that Simba joined 6 others in the garden, do you keep a cat-alogue? Hat, coat, etc.; anyone found the Groan button yet? You state that Simba joined 6 others in the garden, do you keep a cat-alogue? Hat, coat, etc.; anyone found the Groan button yet? No need for a cat-a-logue thanks John. My dad buried three earlier cats - including the one Mrs Stationmaster brought with her when we married but which fairly quickly adopted my dad - at the bottom of the garden behind a retaining wall. All of these, as befits my carpenter dad, had varnished hardwood crosses above their graves and I wouldn't be siurprised if at least one of them had been interred in a purpose made wooden box, But in time the crosses deteriorated and were lost although I know the site. Our much loved adoptee (he adopted us, from being a stray) Henry is buried in the front garden under a suitable memorial to a cat of considerable character and a great sense of humour who couldn't resist posing every time he saw somebody with a camera and who caused major consternation during visit to the vet as he disdained a cat basket and would only go if on a lead, which confused dogs no end. But this reminds me that there is a need for a cat-a-logue as I totally overlooked our pure black rescue cat who I named Wesley. He had clearly had a very unfortunate early life and disliked male humans but took an occasionally unusual interest in female humans - he is buried under a now flourishing and very prickly mahonia in the front garden as befits his character. So my unfortunate omission of Wesley in fact makes Simba the seventh cat to be interred in the garden; he arrived along with his brother Sammy (another cat of character with an impressive sense of humour and was definitely top cat until he had to take a regrettably final trip to the vets wherea week in their hospital unfortunately failed to restore him to everyday health. And the sun is shining, a lot, so the temperature is rising and the spuds appear to have got blight. Today I was excused a Tesco visit and the young ladies from Edinburgh Uni appear to be departing the road. Their sort of replacment is far less interesting (to me) as it appears the divorced lady next door has gained the company of a boatload of fit young American fellahs for the coming week. Enjoy the rest of the day one and all.

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 29, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 29, 2019 Afternoon Awl, motor scooter collected, interesting the first few miles of the journey back, until the shinyness of the new tyres wore off. A change of direction coming home to avoid a car accident, fairly obviously a new mini had come out of a side road and collected a 4x4 in its side.. Police not yet arrived. Talking of 4x4, lots of series 1 landrovers on the road, at least a dozen all heading north must be a meeting somewhere.. They are at least 61 years old.. Shelves built, now in position in shed but not yet bolted to wall, that will have to wait till tomorrow as some wooden infills will be needed to bridge the gap between wall and shelf uprights and the power tools will be out for timber massacring Hedge trimming, some done until heat and humidity defeated me, after that was put away. Washed down the motor scooter, the scooter thermometer was recording 33C in the sun. The highest I've ever seen it. Then I had a can of cider and a sarni, followed by eyelids examination, when I awoke no Ben or SWMBO, or lead. So they're out on the long March. I think I might Just get another can before they return..
