Until comparatively recently I could eat any nut in any quantity, unfortunately I've now found peanuts and Brazil's send me to a small room very rapidly. Not recently tried a satay, as we don't have them at home and i don't wish to court disaster elsewhere.

That large list this morning has been completed, after swmbo repaired / modified the afloat boat cover. I was sat in a patio chair on the err patio, refeeding the perimeter rope , when an RAF A400 flew over the field behind us, that is less than 400 ft away very low, probably 250ft or less. The view being very like this but the wheels were up.

On Ben's long walk I observed that primroses are in massed formations on the dyke and ditch sides, They obviously liked being flooded a couple of weeks back.

Most excellent evening with friends at the Queen tribute concert last evening. Otherwise, nothing to report from yesterday.

 

Today, not a lot planned, looking forward to a relaxing weekend - like THAT will happen 😀 will avoid all the offerings of "everything GREEN" taking over for Paddys day.

We are attending one of our fund-raising concerts Sunday, and as always I'll be there to "help" folks with ticket issues. The typically aging crowd need help ALWAYS, as they can seldom find their receipt that was emailed to them, insist they can't print them out and can never find the email on their phone <sigh>

 

Very nice out this AM 4c and sunny with a high of 11 forecast.

Woe betide she (or he) who forgets.  No woes were necessary here this morning.

It is wet and foggy again here.  The banking / supermarket trip over to Penzance was accomplished this morning in fairly dreadful driving conditions.  The road - at best a 45 - 50mph one with no safe overtaking opportunities anywhere - was not fit for that speed this morning so I took it at a safer 40 - 45mph.  Mid-way through a series of bends with blind hill crests up behind me comes headlamp-blazing and then headlamp-flashing C0ckwomble Number 1.  He clearly wasn't in a mood to hold back nor wait so overtook on a blind summit, on a bend, in the fog, and found another car coming towards him at very close range.  Other car must have braked very hard as there were skid marks behind it; C0ckwomble pulled in sharply in front of me almost kissing the front bumper of the Little Red Driving Box as he did so.  He was close enough that I could see through his rear windscreen that his raised middle finger was apparently directed at me.  He then screamed off into the fog.  I didn't recognise it as a local car.  I half-expected to see his rear-end sticking out of a hedge or the greasy side up in a ditch somewhere down the road but he escaped to imperil other road users another day.  

 

I really MUST get that idiot-cam fitted ........

Bear is no fan of nuts...though I'll most definitely make a very large exception for salted peanuts....

 

...oh yes, and peanut butter as well - the smooth variety.

Bear sent a Birthday Card at the start of the week - and a "Happy Birthday" Text (with a Cake emoji thrown in as well) today.....

New tyres for Mickey ordered and fitting booked - three needed, the fourth being "ok" for a little while....but the fourth one just happens to be the one that has mysteriously displayed all the signs of a puncture in the past - yet it's NFF when I investigate.  Typical.  Bluddy Typical 🤬

 

So I've ordered four - with a 4-wheel alignment it'll be TWO Deltics sacrificed.  FFS.

 

After that I headed back to the Chemist** to see what the outcome was regarding the prescription she flagged up to the numpty Doc as being incompatible with existing sweeties - the Doc has cancelled it.

Doc:  0.

 

**Good job she's on the ball - I've not seen her before (a young Chemist - at a guess I'd say newly arrived from Spain? Italy? judging by her spoken English (which is rather a lot better than Bear's Italian/Spanish by the way) - so even more impressive that she picked up on it.

I used to like nuts but now have to avoid them as they make me cough and wheeze a bit - especially hazelnuts in chocolate bars.  Peanuts started to cause problems many years ago.  So all nuts are now on my banned list as a precaution as I don't want to try to find out which ones are not good for me just in case I have a real problem.  I have to remember to check ingredient lists when I do online shopping  and specify nut free if I go out to eat.

 

Today has been pleasant, I had a walk along the Links south of the beach and took a few photos  even though the light was not brilliant.  There were a number of larks singing loudly, the hawthorn  leaves are just appearing and the grass was starting to grow.  The council have levelled and reseeded some parts where rabbits and dogs have been digging holes during the winter.  There were some nice daffodils around.  A couple of photos are below.  While I had coffee two friends rang me, both told me I have to act my age as I recover pointing out I am 74 not 54.   At times it annoys me but I know they are trying to be helpful.

 

After coffee I did a few odds and ends in the house and then went into the greenhouse, a lot of old uslesss seed trays etc are now in the bin.  Lunch was a chicken casserole ready meal from Asda, there was a lot more than I usually eat so I felt quite full and dozy for a while.  It was surprisingly good but I prefer home made things.

 

Later on a neighbour called round with several pot plants for me, one of the supermarkets was getting rid of unsold stock selling them at 20p rather than £2-99 each.  They will go in the greenhouse once the weather is a bit warmer, for now they are in the kitchen.

 

Soon it will be teatime and then a big decision - TV or book.  At the moment reading a book is favourite.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Blowing a Hooley this morning with a few short sharp showers but now eased up. That meant no G word today so I got on with a bit of housework. Now to test the best before lottery to see whats for dinner.

Its being blowing near Hooley (just up the road from us) today🙂.

 

In between rain showers I managed to replace the headlight bulb in our layout shifter ready for the trip to East Grinstead in the morning. Layout was loaded in another pause in the rain.

 

Some mudelling commissions carried out this week for three different Alans. one collected this morning, another will collect tomorrow and the third Alan will have to wait till some parts arrive.

 

My other half is happy as the new Sky Streaming box arrived lunchtime and she can now get back to watching her favourite programmes.

Work extremely busy at present- a potential deal is on the table and this has led to literally 100’s of questions that need answering yesterday.  I was dealing with #500 earlier. But they come out faster than we can answer the previous ones! 
 

as for nuts, all good for me but we avoid a lot of Eastern meals because Younger Lurker is allergic to peanuts. Shame for him because he likes a lot of spice.

A drawing has been drawn of a device to be whittled out of a chunk of aluminium to hold a lens and a camera in precisely the right position (OK, there's a degree of flexibility built in to get the focus precise) on the butchered 1960's Standard 8 projector aka the telecine machine.

 

Much rooting around** finally produced an ideal chunk of 1.75" Dia  ali bar for the item.     It's been cut to length, set up in the 4 jaw chuck (it's a bit bigger than my 3 jaw ) and a start has been made to dress it up so that the travelling steady can be used to support it whilst it's machined.    Proper machining starts next time.

 

** Puppers' stock pile of chunky ali bar is now sadly depleted after all those telescope and other gadgets that have been made over recent months.     I need an economical source for a re-stock!

 

Got our water bill today.   According to the meter we've used 1m3 of water in the last year.   I wondered what the smell was.

We went out on the bikes after the old Farts breakfast, as it was wet earlier.  Another 50 running-in miles on Mrs NHN's new device, at a rather slower pace than Pupper's Yam RD I think. 

 

A lazy day recovering from our few days away in the Lake District, putting on weight every day, eatin' and drinkin' - #sigh#.  The Crafty Baa in Windermere is one for @roundhouse should he venture so far norf.  Great atmosphere, zillions of craft ales, rather, er, bijou so get there early.

The aspect of Asian food I struggle with is using fish sauce in non-fish dishes. I am not a seafood enthusiast, I don't mind fish which is not fishy if that makes any sense. A lot of good Chinese and Japanese fish is not fishy, in fact in some Chinese and Japanese cuisine styles they consider fishiness to be a sign of a poor cook and a badly prepared dish. However, other styles major on fishiness, and tthe Vietnamese especially love fish sauce, which can reach the level of fully weaponized fishiness. The fact a Vietnamese dish is meat or vegetarian with no fish is no guarantee it won't be full on fishy. I always ask the waiter, and most places will adjust the preparation if you say you don't want it to be fishy. That said, I don't want to put people off Vietnamese food as it is fantastic.

Successfully avoided red nose day, by getting the boat ready this morning and going to the MRC this evening.

Just after I got there the welkin opened big time, but not for long. Driving home you had drying patches but big puddles.

 

A depleted group tonight 3 down , one of which was due to having poured a freshly made cup of tea over his paw.

The new lights out side have certainly made a big difference driving in..

Went for a mooch in Crystal Palace Park then the town after seeing the gf in Croydon this wk. Even in rugged, urban South London you can still get some amazing shots!

Is that just M&S or the general Trafford Centre, you do seem to go there a lot, I'm within walking distance and it takes a lot for me to set foot inside beyond the M&S Food Hall, though sometimes I might find myself in Next/Gap.

Having crossed the Pontywhatsit Aqueduck many times, I can confirm that it's "worrying" to look over the side all the way down.  Especially from the stern deck of a traditional narrowboat...
