With the extra space I now have at home with the fiddle yard roads all in use, I've been running a little works train.  But I felt it needed something else, like a lowmac maybe -

An Airfix one picked up from Crafty Hobbies for a fiver! After removing the 'box' load and fitting No5's it runs a treat -

A rail load and patch painting next, then it can get weathered with 37 425, which is way too clean -

Not keen on clean engines! Kev.

A bit of a round up, 37 425 has entered traffic -

post-8271-0-97616200-1498499306_thumb.jpg

Very lightly weathered for me! But that was the way it was in the main photo I was using for inspiration. It is fitted with a Digitrains v4 'West Highland 37' decoder and 3watt DC kits bass-reflex speaker and 'thrashes' very loudly! Next up the lowmac has also entered service with a load, here behind 27 207 -

These are both in the 80's period, in which I wasn't expecting to use the latest wagon, but it just fits in as a very mini train! It was purchased for the 70's period as seen here behind 27 032 -

edit - yes I have now noticed that the 'shark' has the tail light at the wrong end in the third photo, doh!

Hi Kev,

Always nice to see a few pics.37425 is on my to do list, as is a class 27/2. Do you have any other pics of your 27/2 you could post up and any info on how you did the extra grilles would be very helpful.

Cheers Peter.

Here you go Pete, cruel close up time!

post-8271-0-92311600-1498577618_thumb.jpg

Side one, one window converted to a grill and a larger one added, both using Hornby class 25 grill offcuts. A small exhaust comes out of the roof where the boiler used to be.(I used to have seperate generator start up/run/stop recordings on the sound program for this loco, but it now has a v4 Bif program!) Electrical conduit and extra cooling pipe runs added from .5 wire. These were later mostly enclosed behind extra steel sheet as can be seen on your photo of 208 above.

post-8271-0-23155700-1498577648_thumb.jpg

Side two, again a window converted to a grill. The two circular grills were made by drilling through the body side and glueing in plastic tube. When set, these were drilled/filed to thin the sides, and then the same Hornby class 25 slats cut to shape and glued in. I believe Shawplan are now to introduce etched grills for this conversion! hth,Kev.

Next -

post-8271-0-06437700-1500303956_thumb.jpg

To become 37 405.

Ian, who is the owner, has done the sound fit. A Biffo v4 West Highland 37/4 'thrash monster' with a bass-reflex in the tanks and an 'earth mover 1' under the fan. This involes some chassis milling, so I left him to it! It does sound very nice and needs the same mods as 425, but with western region headboard brackets too.

Ps - I may, or may not, (if the wifes looking, :mosking: ) have just ordered a 105 unit from Rails to add to the 70's fleet. I'm feeling a green, blue hybrid approaching!

Hi Kev,

It's not the ordering part you need to worry about, it's when the box arrives and the Mrs takes it in!

Bet that 37 does sound good with those speakers in. Does it require much work to get the EM1 in like that?

All the best

Mark

Well I sneaked it in ok -

As you can see, it is a power twin, and all the Scottish ones were power trailers! So either I have some work to do, or I do a swap with Rik for a driving trailer! Kev.

Cheers Mark. 37 405 is now re-assembled and has passed its running tests. Time for weathering now, but it may have to wait until the 105 is ready, so as to make it worthwhile setting up the air-brush!  Speaking of which -

post-8271-0-13724300-1501418213_thumb.jpg

The motored chassis has been dismantled and as much metal as possible cut away to allow room for a sound decoder and speaker. This is the first time I've done a Bachmann 'conventional' unit and what a crap design sound wise it is! The 'dtc to be' chassis has also been de-engined and modified and headcode blinds 'blanked'. Kev.

The bogies are also now detailed. As to the 'bog cart' seats, I'm far too young to remember! Kev.

Bog off you sat in the same seats as me mostly in the ex first class end when we could. They were a sort of blue colour and the second class seats were also a sort of blue colour but not the same. Also all the second class seats did not have head rests.

Hello Kev,

I don't remember any seats in that colour in any stock in the 70s or 80s or any time before or after.

Come on lets see some photos of the big 37.

OzzyO.

Paul,

The DMU bible says that the cattle class seats were originally clad in a maroon moquette.  http://www.railcar.co.uk/type/class-105/interior

I, like you, am clearly too young to remember the original colour scheme.

The seats that I was thinking about were a sort of blue and green with a mix of a dark colour in it for the second class (why did we not take colour photos of the interiors of rolling stock in them days?) .

I was also thinking about the 3+2 side seating that we had around here.

Sorry for the delay in getting owt done, but life and Swiss layouts get in the way. Anyway, the 105 -

post-8271-0-95198100-1507640840_thumb.jpg

Now a power/trailer and ready for traffic, but still needs further cv tweaks on the lights. Or I might just turn them off! Fitted with a v4 decoder with one of my 'bog-cart' programs.

And another! -

post-8271-0-24266400-1507640850_thumb.jpg

37 405 throbs in with a freight to Mossend. A Bif 'West Highland' v4, a bass-reflex and an 'earth mover' means it really does 'throb'. 37 033 has also been re-blown with Bif's latest 'slippy' 37 program which is great fun.

Next, yet another 37 401 on the bench, to become 37 413.

I got meself one of Bif's 'slippy' Tractor v4's too Kev. Start her moving, hit f6 and ramp up the throttle! Listen to the sound of a 37 being thrashed, slip, idle..........then THRASH again..... all good fun.

Can't wait to get that one up the 1:45 of Cowlairs Tunnel on the layout with Load 5 attached to the back of it! Got mine in 37 411 though.

cheers

Andy

PS T'was good to see you behind Coppell at Wigan Kev.
